Chevrolet Aveo - A Short Introduction

March 31, 2006 – 8:18 am by Banwari Lal Sharma

Chevrolet Aveo: The Mind-blowing, Mind-blasting, Todu-Phodu car! Is it right? Well, I don’t think so! But Rani and Saif said that it is! Let them say, they won’t drive it, you will and then they will not be beside you either to listen to your complaints.

Many people on carwale.com were asking for Aveo’s first impression. I thought, let people know the truth. So, here I go, I am taking the excerpts from my own reply to such one question.

Aveo is certainly not a match for Ford Fiesta or Honda City. Honda City is a proven class while Fiesta’s initial impression is very good and it seems better than even Honda City in many aspects. I doubt Aveo’s abilities to outperform Fiesta or City.

Aveo’s only positive point is its very good design. It gives you a great feel inside, thanks to the excessive beige inside! Exterior is good, looks big and overall build quality seems fine too. But when we come to its negative side then we need to have a paper and pen around. It doesn’t perform as it expected, lacks in initial pickup and overall speed. Rear-seat is hell if you are a tall person, you will feel that you are sitting in a Bajaj Auto!!! Gearbox doesn’t work well either, very hard to shift. Fuel economy might not be promising too, let GM claim it to be 15 in city. I am not impressed with its prices either! The top-end 1.6L version seems fine!

Overall, Aveo’s first impression is not good and if GM wants it to get going, it will think seriously refining the engine, just Rani and Saif’s ‘todu-fodu-mind-blowing’ won’t do. :-)

  7. Dear Shailendra, The spec goes with individual requirements, Iam 6.3 tall, i tried couple of cars Fordfeista, Verna & SX4 seems ok, where as Honda city does not fit and its almost touching the head and u can not even get in directly, I felt Aveo gives good comfort, i bought recently the aveo 1.6, since i wanted 1.6 Engine , i opted for it, other then engine and power, if u r looking for package , then Aveo 1.4 (is good), which comes with complete range of offerings (including leather seat cover).

But in general both 1.4 & 1.6 - amazing on its own style, u cannot compare GM interior and finish, engine is very good, hardly it makes any noise, Initial power is good, only problem i face is that, driver seat leg room, my left leg touching, in the city u cannot touch go above 50 to 60, its performance is very on highway - 140 touched, its good.

Every car has got advantages and disadvantages over rest . Iam happy and enjoying my new car, just done 1000 Km.

    Regards,

    Vasanth
