Honda puts expansion plans on hold

December 23, 2008 – 11:16 am by Rachit Hirani

Honda Siel Cars India has announced a delay the capacity enhancement and assembly operations in its Tapukara plant, which is based in Rajasthan. Honda had initially planned to increase the capacity for the last quarter of 2009.

The current economic slowdown has affected the automotive industry and has led to a decrease in sales figures. Honda will continue to assess the market before undergoing its expansion.

Honda has also decided to cut down production at its Noida plant, keeping in mind the view of the negative growth in the Indian automobile industry and in the interest of maintaining lean operations (what does ‘lean operations’ mean? Explain to me before you use this term.). Honda will change its production rate by considering the market situation.

Honda’s November 2008 sales grew by 15%, as the company managed to sell 5090 units compared to 4425 units which were sold in November 2007.The newly launched Honda City led the sales, with 4359 units sold.
