General Motors India is planning to introduce its Cadillac range to the Indian auto market. The Detroit-based company had initially planned to launch its Hummer SUV in India. GM will introduce the Cadillac CTS to compete with German luxury brands Mercedes-Benz, Audi and BMW.
GM India president and MD Karl Slym said, “We are now vying for the luxury space. The company was planning to launch the Hummer SUV earlier but its entry now seems distant as consumer sentiment has changed. So, we have zeroed in on the Cadillac CTS sedan, which was showcased at the Auto Expo last year.”
The company also plans to introduce the Chevrolet Cruze by mid-2009. The Cruze will compete with the Honda Civic and the Toyota Corolla in the rapidly-growing Indian midsize market. General Motors also has plans to go green. The company aims at introducing LPG and CNG in most of its current Indian models. It has already introduced the CNG version of the Chevrolet Optra.
