General Motors Corporation inaugurated its second vehicle manufacturing facility in Talegaon, Maharashtra. The new plant will more than double the manufacturer’s capacity to 225,000 units per annum.
The facility covers 300 acres and in excess of US$300 million has been invested in it. It will employ over a thousand employees, who have begun production of the Spark. It has an initial capacity of 140,000 vehicles per annum, but will be able to accommodate expansion in the future. Flexibility is also being engineered into the plant, so that different models can roll off the line depending on market requirements. GM’s new small car will also be built at the Talegaon plant.
