Practical design features and unique tough looks that made me go for the Fusion Diesel. 3 yrs, back, I wanted this car but the petrol version was too expensive to buy as well as run.. So opted for Esteem vxi. Then came in the diesel and my dreams realized.. Been driving it now for over 2 weeks having covered 1200 kms. With fuel consumption of 21 in combined city and highway driving, the ac being on about 40% of the time, what more can one can ask for in a car of this size? Ample boot and interior space with a comfortable drive on rough and tar roads. Cons are change of gears, but you get used to it. Power is perfect for Indian roads where its the cows and camels that control your speed and not the power inside the bonnet!. I strongly recommend it for anyone who wants a practical machine with an attitude!

thanks for what looks like a true review. I too am likely to drive away with one..

Plz tell me if the power is really sufficient for 5 people and AC on in climbing Ghats?

  3. on 19 Aug, 2007 at 08:29 PM Bhargav Mistry (Udaipur)

I live in Udaipur with fairly good deal of ghats . No problem in its power, though it can be better. Sometimes 2nd gear feels sluggish but once you get used to its gear ratios, it zips. 5 persons with ac is okay, though could be better. But then you compromise on fuel consumption etc..

  5. on 23 Aug, 2007 at 08:17 PM Smita Singh (Udaipur)

Mr Mistry I am sure you truly love your wheels. Thanks for the update.

Variozin: The bumpy ride has been sorted out. Read AutoCar Sep 07 for details. It has a full review of this car.

I am looking for a car that would generously accommodate 5 ppl and is fuel efficient.

Is it really worth spending 6+ Lakhs for this car, when it comes to the above factors?

  10. on 14 Oct, 2007 at 12:37 AM Madhu

Bhargav- how is the ground clearence and the pick up with 5 people A/C on? do you find difference after ring the Fiesta diesel? maintenence so far if any?

  11. on 14 Oct, 2007 at 08:29 AM Bhargav Mistry (Udaipur)

Madhu, ground clearance is just apt. I've driven with 5 ppl + may be 80kg luggage & ac on. In the 3rd & 4th gear, pick up is good as it has great torque. Fiesta might be better as its lighter by about 70kgs. But Fusion has its own charm. So far hve clocked 5000kms. Best fuel efficiency at 30% ac was 26 over 300Km dist. Normally it gives 20-21 and if 100%ac, around 18-19 in city. Too early for any maintenance costs.. Giving for 1st service today.

Wish to economize on fuel since run a lot. Looking for a change - researching however indecisive - Intended for a CNG/ LPG kit in my Ford Fusion Plus 'petrol' found not permissible, then intended going for Honda City found Low compared to Fusion.
Please help me to resolve my Priority is Economy my liking is height of Fusion type, there seems no vehicle to support my two wishes.
Else I should sell Fusion Petrol & Buy Fusion Diesel however quite a loss incurring proposition.

bhargav what is the routine servicing interval for TDCi ?
    its 5000 or 10000 kms?
i guess for petrol its 10000 kms

  14. on 05 Nov, 2007 at 03:52 PM Bhargav Mistry (Udaipur)

First free service at 5000, 2nd at 10000 and rest at every 10000. But I guess services in between should be of more bebeficial than harm.

bhargav you have mentioneds cons as change of gears, could you please explain

  16. on 14 Nov, 2007 at 08:28 AM Bhargavgmistry

Vijay, so far as the feel in change of gears is concerned, its perfect. Its only the gear ratios like say the acceleration in 2nd gear is not as expected. May be I feel this as I was used to Esteem petrol's gear shifts. But you get well used to it in a few hundred km drive, so no problem..

Dear Bhargav, your comments sound helpful for my search. I have severe back problem and cannot go for lower cars. Options are hight like Santro, Wagon R in small car & Ford Endevour in big (budget issue). Is Fusion helpful in having such high sitting?. How is vibration and noise in all the gears in your diesel version? I value your opitnion...Paresh

Friends, so far good comments here...in mouthshut the comments in fusion are not so good. I did a test drive on Fusion diesel, Honda City and Fiesta but I like fusion the most mainly bcos of the driving comfort. But with the Maruthi SX4 in place now I am in a dilema if I should fo for SX4 or Fusion. Also please tell me waht is special with Fusion Plus compared to Fusion. Not to forget again Fusion has a very less resale value :( Your thoughts please...

  23. on 26 Jun, 2008 at 09:22 PM Amit Sharma (Noida)

Good comments for buyers, but my worry about fusion is higher maintenance cost, if you compare cost of parts, fusion is the costliest. I own a wagon R and looking for a diesel car.. wanted to buy dzire but waiting period is too long.. now looking for options... first choice is fusion and second is palio multijet diesel..
    Pls advice...

Reading the above comments, I am also thiking to go for this car. But I understand that manufacturing of Ford Fusion is going to stop then what will happen, what its resale value.

  25. on 30 Jun, 2008 at 01:44 AM Imtiaz Khan (Navi Mumbai)

Resale value is bad don't go for it if you want to plan so far ahead. It's a connoisseur's car not an investment for your next purchase! Buy it if you like to drive and maintian cars don't if you are a blood pressure patient and a blown fuse gives you reason to start cursing the electricity department.

As far as manufacture of these cars shutting down I'll believe it when it happens for now it's the same sort of breaking news that makes one switch channels on TV.... bogus speculation at best

  32. on 15 Jul, 2009 at 03:20 PM Bhargav Mistry (Udaipur)

At what price? I've clocked plus 30K and nothing's wrong yet - and don't expect to either for very long. Highway fuel is approx 20 with 4 passangers - or more if ac off. No engine or other trouble yet. Sturdy and well balanced. Take it if the condition is good. Check the tires and signs of accident, rattling etc. Good luck!

I want to buy a used Fusion (Diesel variant). Its one year old and has clocked 28000 KMs. Should I go ahead with this. Mine is a small family and am a office goer. For my official purposes I have to go to some other cities at a distance of 100 to 200 kms. Would anybody advise me what should I do, Should I buy this or should I go for a new car. I think I will have to pay around 3 lacs of Rupees.

  36. on 28 Sep, 2009 at 11:08 AM Bhargav Mistry (Udaipur)

Its worth it for 3 lacs. And 28K km means just warming up for a long haul.. Highly recommended.

    Hi,
I bought Ford Fusion TDCI on 3rdJan'09. Its has crossed 26000kms & I feel proud to be an owner of such a nice SUV.
Will ask everyone who is plaaning to by a new car. Before buying anything kindly take a test drive then only decide which vehicle you wana buy. I stay in Delhi. City Average- 17.5- 18.5 kms with AC & 21+ on highways with AC. Without AC havent Checked.
And service cost at every intervals of 10000kms cost around 3500/-. other cars (tata & maruti) Rs.2500 every 5000kms.
