The ford fusion petrol version never took off as the car did not offer much to the buget conscious indian as it was way too expensive at the time of launch and returned poor mileage. Later price revisions made this a good value for money car.

The diesel engine on this car is a tried and tested engine which is also seen on the fiesta which is highly refined. Eventhough this car is well built and quite heavy it returns an amazing fuel economy of about 18-20 on the highway. The engine is no racer though but cruises well on the highway. The lower end torque is good for city driving conditions. The high ground clearence makes driving through bad roads seem easy and it can do a bit of off roading as well. The ride is not great but completely manageable but the handling is exceptional.

This car is a great buy for those who are looking for a practical car which is a cross over between a sedan and a SUV with descent performance and great  fuel economy.

If only Ford could improve the VALUE FOR MONEY factor and reduce spares and servicing costs this vehicle would move beyond their showrooms

Practical design features and unique tough looks that made me go for the Fusion Diesel. Been driving it now for over 2 weeks having covered 1200 kms. With fuel consumption of 21 in combined city and highway driving, the ac being on about 40% of the time, what more can one can ask for in a car of this size? Ample boot and interior space with a comfortable drive on rough and tar roads. Cons are change of gears, but you get used to it. Power is ok for Indian roads. I strongly recommend it!

i am not decided on whether to go for petrol or diesel.. but while comparing the two i just wondered what made Ford reduce the overall length of the diesel version by 29 mm i.e. well over an inch...?

Ford reduced the overall length for a very firm reason. In India cars with less than 4 meters length fall under a separate tax category. So, to keep the disel version of the car at low price, they reduced the length. Good work.

the 1 inch is shaved off the bumper. so nothing to anal about. its a fantastic car with robust build quality and killer mileage. not to mention the superb space and feel inside the car. if you wannna stick out from the 'aam janta', this is the car for you.

great feedback from everyone, im seriously buying it this month. whats the maintenance like on a tdci and is the mileage as good as they claim? since the turbo opens up around 2000 rpm the acceleration must be good too. comments please

  11. on 20 Dec, 2007 at 02:30 AM Sunilkbhagwat

Mileage would be dependent on your driving.....bt it should give you above 15-16 in combined conditions......n will be very much in line with fiestas mileage......and the tdci will require more maintainance compared to its petrol counterpart bt wnt be too much more either.....accelaration is average, nothing gr8 abt it.....

I wish they should also chop off the 18mm to the Petrol Version and reduce the amount.
It is really painful to pay some extra 20-30k for the this extra length.
If they do so then the Car Price may tagged less than 6L.
Waiting for FORD to do so :)

No, the small car specification says diesel car for <1.4L and <4m, for petrol car it is <1.3L. So only shaving off an inch in petrol version will not work.
What is the experience for people from Bangalore about the pulling power of 1.4TDCI? Can it climb all steep inclines with full load of people and luggage?
