My review is for First Time Car buyers, who want good return of there money.

We have choice in this segment 2.8L to3.5L - diff variants. Read this and decide your self.

I've been using this car from 38 months crossed 75000kms. I bought this instead of Santro coz of milage. I knew it has less power, but didn't expected it to be so poor. 90% of time I'm alone even then feel the problem in pick up.
Initially it gave me good average of 18km/Ltr with AC but now I'm getting 14-16Km/ltr.
It hardly reaches speed above 115km/hr.  Braking is also not that efficient, seriously needs to be improved.
It needs frequent servicing , specially the CLUTCH part which has become like old scooter's in operation. It has been repaired (polishing) more then three times. I have to get it adjusted after every 10000kms.

Its really pain to drive it in traffic. Shockers are reaaly bad, you feel the complete profile of Road. Overall I feel very disappointed. I bought Santro also after year of using ALTO.

I think if you drive around 80km a day then Maxm Life of this car is 80000-95000km after which it should be dumped immediately. My car has crossed 75000kms. I think I can drive it maxm. 15000kms more and will go for Better ONE....

Well I decided to keep a driver for lato as its pain to drive it because of Heavy clutch and poor pick up. Also, now no one can blame me of not using clutch properly. Afterall they always have this excuse and can blame for poor driving skills.

Comparision:

Body: Santro is better

Engine: Santro is Better

Driving & Sitting Comfort :Santro is Better, Alto has v bumpy ride.

Driving in Dark/Night : Alto very scary not good visiblity (I don know why but I always avoid)

Fuel efficieny: ALto is better

Leg Space : Santro is Better

Braking : Santro is Better

Steering : Santro is Better

Safety :Santro is Better

Looks & style :Santro is Much Better

Maintenance: Almost Same.

Resale Value :Santro is Better

Overall Satisfaction: Santro is Better

Price diffrence : approx 35K

One more observation, Check it yourself...Checkout IInd Car stalls, web sites....You will find lot of ALTO, more than other cars.

NOT because its most selling or its bad car. But after driving it for a year...people want/feel to upgrade there car. Go for Santro, speak to your friend who have Santro..they are more staisfied.

I'm not against Maruti but in this segment ALTO is totally outdated model.

Toady best choice would be i10,Getz....or aATLEAST Santro.

For style I would like to give it ONE more STAR.
I forgot to mention the tyres had manufacturing fault as there was cut in one the tyre which the dealer refused to change as I brought in his notice after 30days of delivery.
As of now the frequency of puncture has increased. Other tyre has also developed crack. Frustrated with the freq. of punctures I'm planning to change all the 5 tyres now.
One more thing I', not driving on the country side but on GOOD Road on NH8 - Gurgaon to C.P. in Delhi

I have been using Alto Lx for last 4 years, and getting more than 20 km/pl on high way ,in city/town almost 15 km/pl.But Iam suprise to see that company advertising less than 18 km/pl ???

Simply speaking suzuki never fakes, it dose what it says and sometimes even more that what it claims. They r not like hyundai's. Sometimes it depends where u get your car serviced. Cause there r lots of thieves around. So just pick the right service station. Service masters and Motorcraft r d best.

  4. on 29 May, 2008 at 02:39 PM Bharat

    Dear Rajeev,
Thanks for the comment. I'm getting it serviced from a good("good" in terms of one of the top 5 maruti service station in Delhi) Maruti Service Center.
They changed the complete assembly of Clutch two months back but Still the clutch operation is not that smooth.

Alto Clutch is not smooth,it worsens when u change

I am very much interested to buy Alto LXi Car give me the comments about LXI performance

  7. on 24 Jul, 2008 at 09:54 AM Bharat

    Hi,
Go for Santro or other better cars.
Alto is ok if you drive alone only 20kms a day. Thats it.

  8. on 28 Nov, 2008 at 01:34 AM Abhishek (Hyderabad)

Hi Bharat, u are the first Indian who does not suggest for the purchase of a Maruthi Product. I test drove the alto LXI. it has less pick up no doubt. what do u expect of 3 lacs? BMW pick up and Mercedes look? buddy, its the best value for money car in India. highest resale value car. Think twice b4 rejecting a Maruti. at least in India.

  9. on 29 Nov, 2008 at 04:15 PM Bharat

Dear Abhishek, U can invent another bad car in 2.75 Lac and put the same comment that Wat people can expect in 2.75Lac. All I wanna Say is that just put 40-50K more and get a quality product like Santro. In terms of body quality and components inside it Santro is much beter deal. I hope now u understand wats bad deal and wats good deal. takecare

    Dear Bharat

I endorse your views on Pick-up and A/c. As we know at the time of buying itself the pick up is not encouraging. But this Alto LXI is not a car to compete with BMW or even I10, so you cannot race upto 115Km per hour and say, the pickup is bad. Alto is best for speed between 80-90KMPH.

Second thing A/c, this is mainly because of the wrong selection of Service Centre. Though some Service centres have good mechanics, they struggle in A/c reparing.

  11. on 15 Mar, 2009 at 02:54 PM Bharat

my review is for first time buyers, people who want great return of money.
I do not drive Alto at 115KM/hr, its highly unsafe for this kind of car. It was just observation that i made. I know its best for lower speeed not even 80-90km/hr but for 60km/hr.
About pickup, its pain to drive it in traffic situation with AC on, it disturbs you lot. I have Santro as well and there is great diffrnce in driving exprience.
In Delhi we have Maruti's own service cntr and I visit that one ONLY

  15. on 26 Jun, 2009 at 09:49 AM Bharat

    XING no doubt.....

  16. on 14 Jul, 2009 at 03:46 PM Lokesh Sharma

Definitely it seems like you are having some ownership of Santro...... Its truely hard to comment about the most selling car of India. I am having an Alto Lx has driven for more than 70000 KM, Till now no problem at all. Mileage is 20+ on highway, No clutch Issues at all. For the pick up, be informed that you are comparing an 800cc engine with 1100cc engine.

  17. on 14 Jul, 2009 at 05:38 PM Bharat

    Mr.Lokesh,
M whole point of discussion is this only 800cc vs 1100 cc engine....n at WHAT PRICE difference?
compare the prices of car , specs, ride comfort, etc.
Yes I'm fan of santro doubt

  18. on 14 Jul, 2009 at 05:49 PM Xxoonnyy

    Dear Bharat,
You are right,my friends who own alto r not that happy, infact they are planning for change. Santro guys r happy :)
I guess if you are young then you will prefer santro but if you are middle aged or above 50 you will prefer maruti as it is simple to drive.
But yes santro guys are happy.

  19. on 01 Aug, 2009 at 06:29 PM A
