Drive it to know. Awesome power. Good to drive in city as well as in highway. It's capable to overtake any vehicle on the indian road.

Very good suspension. The interior quality looks very very rich esp. the Magnum LT. LS does not look so bad, but the leather quality of LT is significantly different.

The diesel engine is surprising quite.

At least the tail lamp of magnum could have been made different than the Original Optra at least to give an impression that "this is a different and better vehicle". :-)

Today, i booked the Magnum LT.

I bought magnum highend(red) on 14th aug. So far I have driven 700 km. Expected to complete 1500 in another 2 days. So far its a great vehicle. Touching 130 is of no effort.overtaking any vehicle in highway is pretty easy because of its high torque.cabin noise @150 is very silence. So far I have not got a good safe road to touch 180. Wait till next week to get an update on milage.

I am dying to confirm the milage of this monster!!

    Can any body help?

  4. on 02 Sep, 2007 at 10:39 AM Sns (Bangalore)

I have got 14 kmpl on high speed mostly 100 kph for the first 1000 km. Which is pretty good at high speed. Normally the milage is always better after the first service.I had given it for servicing. Will update once I complete the first full tank.

DO WE NEED SUCH SPEED MONSTERS THREATENING LIVES OF OCCUPANTS AND PUBLIC AT LARGE,MORE SO WITH OUR CONDITION OF ROADS AND TRAFFIC.WE INDIANS LIKE TO SHOW OFF OUR SPEED(POWER)DISREGARDING ALL NORMS INCLUDING SPEED LIMITS SET BY LAW ETC

  6. on 07 Sep, 2007 at 01:02 PM Gurkanwal Singh

Novice has raised genuine concern.Vehicles capable of speed beyond a safe speed (say 140 kmph)should be detuned in interest of safety of lives and properties around. As is clear from feed back above, people are aiming to achieve maximum achievable speeds that may not be safe for them and others

Well, to comment on the note written by Gurkanwal - thoughts like this is exactly why western countries treat us like a third world country. Think about the computers we have access to, the fast food joints, music, BPO's etc. India is on the move forward and besides if you cant take the heat, stay out of the kitchen. In saying so however, I think people should be responsible.

  8. on 17 Sep, 2007 at 12:01 PM Gurkanwal Singh

Let us not get worried unnecessarily about what western countries think about us or who can take the heat and who can not.We must know and acknowledge our strengths and weaknesses and do something about these to improve our systems while taking the nation forward

    Mr G Singh,
Your feedback in this forum is absolutely baseless. Not sure what is your intend. If you are damn scared of the high speed cars, then this forum is not for you. Please join M800 or Ambassador or a bicycle forum.

In this forum people discuss their experience and opinion on a particular "CAR". FYI, this is newly launched vehicle and owners are sharing their experience and good/bad feedback with others.

Please, Do not waste other's time. I hope this is clear to you.

While the debate (on speed and speed monsters) in valid but this is not the right platform. My views - every damn car on Indian roads is capable of going above 100kmph. Let's get back to the topic - everything about Magnum is perfect, except overall rear design, including tail lamp. How could they not design it similar to the SRV as they did with the front looks. The 'optra' squarish tail lamps just don't match with the long bean-curvy headlamps. This overlook was not expected for a 10lac car.

  11. on 20 Sep, 2007 at 11:41 AM Gurkanwal Singh

Dear SNS let me explain further and provide the link.Magnum is exhorbitantly priced car being sold due to its "power".The 'power' is not going to be put to use in our road conditions and will remain surplus. There is couple of lacs difference between petrol and diesel models and the diesel model does not pay back due to the fuel economy difference, happy motoring

Ive driven the car and it seems perfect overall. I'm worried i will lose more than 50% if i try to sell it in two years mainly because of Chevy and GM brand value in India. Can someone throw light on this ? Everything else seems great !

  13. on 14 Nov, 2007 at 03:52 PM Khanna.Rahul

I own the mid model - diesel variant. Havent faced a problem overtaking, n i think its good if u dont have to change gears while overtaking and driving parallel in the same direction to another vehicle. The car is value for money...try fitting in 3 people in the back seat of a fiesta on a long journey!! as far as resale is concerned, i guess 2 years down the line all present models would be outdted in any case...so whats the point...enjoy the car and dont bother abt people who cant afford it

hi, m confused between optra megnum 2.0 LT TCDi and skoda octavia. can anyone help me to choose one car from above?

  15. on 29 Dec, 2007 at 10:34 PM Vijay Kumar

I have taken test drive of Optra magnum 2.0 LT and fell very comfortable, the only thing that bothers me is the resale of the car after two years. Can somebody guide me whether to go for it or for something else.

  16. on 29 Dec, 2007 at 11:11 PM Sns (Bangalore)

The way product life is shrinking in these days in almost all the industry segments(esp. Auto and electronics), After two year more or less all models are going to be outdated. This is the reality.
Gm has a moderate brand value in india. As per the media, they have aggressive plan here. As they are successful in other geography - its a matter of time. :-). I own magnum 11:10:28 PM diesel. Very satisfied so far without any issues.

  17. on 13 Feb, 2008 at 12:43 PM Vikas Khurana

I have test driven Optra Magnum, thrice and each time I drive, I just fall in love with Magnum. I dont know what it will give me when I will sell this car after 3-4 years, that puts me to think again whether to buy or not. But none of the other cars, I repeat none of the other cars give such a driving pleasure and ride comfort. No comparison.

I had a choice between Skoda Octavia 1.9TDi (Diesel),Corolla H1 (Petrol), Optra Magnum LT Petrol, Optra Magnum 2.0TCDi (Diesel). Rejecting Corolla and Optra Diesel was easy and hence was left to choose between Octa 1.9 and Optra 2.0 Diesel. I did not found even 1 reason to choose Skoda over Optra 2.0 apart from that overall Octa looks slightly better than Optra Magnum. On every other count like power, handling, comfort, pricing, interiors, Optra Magnum 2.0TCDi was streets ahead of Octa 1.9TDi.

  19. on 27 Feb, 2008 at 11:50 PM Sns (Bangalore)

Skoda has already stopped the production of Octavia 1.9 TDI. Toyota will stop Corolla's production anytime.

  20. on 01 Mar, 2008 at 08:47 PM Vj (Thrissur)

sorry Mr.Sns ya toyota will stop the production of the 9th generation corolla, in order to start the production of the 10th gen. corolla, which will come with a COMMON RAIL DIESEL ENGINE.IT'S SPECS ARE : 125 BHP, 30.6 NM TORQUE , 200 KPH TOP SPEED, AND SURPRISE 15KMPL MILEAGE.the magnum is the best chevrolet vehicle produced by GM in india, but the new corolla will wipe out both the octavia and magnum, but with the magnum's VFM pricing it will be a good competitor to the corolla.

  21. on 02 Mar, 2008 at 11:31 AM Sns (Bangalore)

Well, i was talking about the existing corolla. I am very much aware of the new corolla spec. I am sure with this release, it would be a healthy competition and toyota team is always smart to position their product @premium. :-). Let's see how they price the product.

  22. on 03 Mar, 2008 at 09:03 AM Vj (Thrissur)

yes Sns the new corolla will definitely be priced higher than the magnum and the octavia but will be on par with the civic.this is because toyota is a stronger brand as the same as honda they both know their brand value in india.for example just look at he innova.everyone criticised its pricing, but look innova sales have crossed the 3 lakh mark under 3yrs.also there will also be a new revised 1.8L VVTi engine to take on the civic.the new corolla looks like a mini camry, means styling is superb

  23. on 04 Mar, 2008 at 05:39 PM Sns (Bangalore)

Agreed. I have seen the new corolla photos. It looks cute and like a baby Camry. :-)

Perhaps the first negeative comment on the magnum for this Forum...I bought mine in Nov 07, done about 4000 kms.
All aside i'm not very happy with the suspension & steering kit. Although it eats the bumps well on high speeds, i feel the vehicle is a little wobbly & shaky on low speeds. The steering requires slight corrections to avoid the constant pull to the left & i tend to feel the quite a bit of the road rubble on the steering. Perhaps it's the goodyear rubbers which are to be blamed.

Do not worry. I have driven 10,000 KM, have not faced this braking issue yet.

How is the suspension after a few months of driving? I have a friend who is unhappy with the way the tyres wear out after 10,000 km. Is it true or is he doing something wrong?

Oh!! well Mr.Sanjiv and Prakash....... i have driven my Magnum for over 10000 Km now and my tires are still as good....... have u checked the alignment or balancing of ur tires anytime in this 10000 Km...... if not do that first....... and after every 7000 - 8000 Km u have to keep interchanging the tires to make sure they get worn out evenly......... and whenever u interchange, u have to align and balance them again........ hope this should help........ and the suspensions are very very good...

  32. on 22 Jun, 2008 at 06:20 PM Sns (Bangalore)

Hi! Own a Magnum LT (Sept 07 model). Have done close to 17,500 Km. Great car. Driven on a combination of silky smooth and real rough roads. Have had no problems so far. Very comfy car. I get an mileage of around 15.5KMPL on pure highway drives with 100% AC (speed's between 80kmph and 100 kmph). Drops to around 12 KMPL in normal city traffic with 100% AC. Get around 10 KMPL when driven in very peak traffic (stuck on 1st gear 70 percent of the time and 2nd gear for the rest). Use turbojet diesel.
