I bought my Swift VDI on Feb 20th 2007. Before that i was in a dilemma whether to buy Swift or Hyundai Getz. After 3 months of my inability to decide, i was blessed with the arrival of Swift Vdi (diesel). I immediatly went for a test drive and WOW i was impressed. I was pleasently shocked by the Vdi, it had the best pickup. Once you cross 2rpm the turbo charger kicks in and you can feel the car take off. Swift has the best smooth looks around, in its segment (the rest are just so routine).

The sales guy bragged about very good mileage and all that, but seriously i never believed him for a sec (I was a little doubtful whether the car would still be so peppy after a few months or years). Anyway i loved the car and that was what mattered. I work in chennai and i travel an averege of 45 km per day in jam packed city traffic (only 1-2 gears). You will not believe that i get an amazing mileage of 15.8-16.2 in city. Every month or so i make an occasional trip to Bangalore. The highway sees me rip my swift at around 140 km per hr (Its sooo smooth).Yeah i do wish that the engine could have been more silent but cmon who's paying attention to the sound when your car is so charged up. My father owns a Ford Fiesta and a hyundai Accent. My swift is way more spacious than the accent.Unlike other cars i feel that the seating and the ride comfort of the car is excellent. when on the inside i donot feel that i'm in a small car at all.

Today after four months and 7600km with my Swift i can still fell that life in it when i drive it. I really wish that they would have come up with a Zdi version but i realise that the price would then be more that the next good sedan. If any of you car buyers need my advice i'd say if you are buying a car dont compromise with money and go for the lower versions cause its just not a car with out the full package. If you cannot afford i suggest you go for another model but the top version. Because once you buy your car and then feel that you should have done or bought something else then you have lost the real joy a car u like can give you. I bought my swift with ABS facility and i guess a powerful car needs ABS dont you think. Hoping that this review can be of some help to someone out there.

    Hi Vinod,
Like i said i was in the same place a few months ago. The Getz is a good looking car and is very spacious and neat. Gives you an executive look. Technical specifications of getz and swift are almost similar. The problems i felt about getz was a)Price - I felt it is very over priced, b)Looks - not as appealing as the swift. Whereas the swift on the other hand is cheaper (compared to the getz), more economical, better looking, more service centers across the country and good resale val

    Thanks Sudhir,
    Your review was reassuring.
I booked my VDI mid Aug and expecting delivery by end Oct.
I work in Chennai and i have my family in Bglr and so hope to make it by road whenever time permits and i am sure VDI will do the trick in town and out.

    Sudhir,
I forgot to ask u the following--I will be grateful if u can give ur inputs
    1. What fuel do u recommend for VDI. U must have done some experimentation initially.
    2. As it will be my first Diesel vehicle, what do i need to always follow / monitor such as
a] gear in crawling city traffic
b] Any warm up time before i get car rolling
c] Any other tip to keep car roaring
    Thanks
    Cmdr Ashvini

    Hi Ashvini
    My inputs ->
1)yes i did some experimentation and found Speed Diesel to be very good (mileage vice),pickup and power is same everywhere.
2a)2-3 should do the trick, in jampacked traffic try to keep the rpm below 3.
    2b)no warm up time needed.
2c)Try not to floor the accelerator (i.e. shift to lower gear if the speed is not enough). Regular servicing is a must. I have observed that by filling the air pressure 2-3 points less gives you a less bumpy ride (around 31).
    enjoy ur car.

    Sudhir,

    Sudhir,
Is it wise to go for alloy wheels for the VDI. I have observed many cars fitted with it and it does enhance the car looks considerably. Is it technically better or no difference in going for Alloy wheels.

Swift VDi - Well this car is really a master piece, I have fitted 14" 8 spoke SM alloy wheels in Hyper Silver Finish on my White VDi & it looks stunning......my car gives me around 18-19 km/lt in Jaipur city traffic, which is more than wht I expect. The handling & road view of the car is excellent.....No doubt why it got the award for the most fun to drive car!!!

Hi I am Rajesh from pune, i am enjoying my swift vdi from june07 and drive almost 6000 kms. till today. I am completely satisfied with the performance of the car. It gives me 18 kmpl in Punes horrible traffic and 22 kpl on highway. Its robust car and you feel very safe in the even at the speed of 140 kmph. But I think ABS is must for this as it has too much powerful engine . Sometimes i feel this much power is not needed in our country where the roads are not for high speed. But just go for it.

    Hey guys,
I am planning to buy Swift vxi. my driving needs are only on weekends (50-80 kms) or some trips (not exceeding 300kms) once in 2 months. After reading the comments, i am in a dilemma whether to buy VDi or VXi. Please help

I liked your response over swift vdi.I would definitely go for swift diesel

  17. on 10 Mar, 2008 at 04:43 PM Saravanan Palani (Coimbatore)

thinking of VDi or VXi is not a deal.....better to go for VDi..which is always best...and most of my friend suggested the same

Dear Rajesh Shrotri, I am Alok Deshpande from Pune too and I am planning to buy Swift VDI. Can u plz tell me that does this diesel car has any maintenance problem? As we stay in Pune.. it has huge traffic problems n roads are bad too.So just concerned over maintenance as i have heard that diesel car needs lots of maintenance.I am 90% fixed on buying this car and heard a good review.Do let me know soon!!!

  19. on 13 Apr, 2008 at 12:52 PM Vineet

    Hi Guys ,
I have santro and swift VDI .
Undoubtedly Swift VDI is superb ..Economy , pickup , styling. Its giving 18~20 Kms per litre in Delhi .But the Quality of Bumpers is poor ,very low impact strength..(as compared to Santro ) sheet thickness is very less even compared with Santro Xing as per my experience.
Slightly overpriced by maruti looking at the reliability of outer parts ...Vineet

  20. on 13 Apr, 2008 at 01:22 PM Vineet

    Hi Alok,
Maintainance is low.Swift VDI has got the engine of Fiat, which has now been launched in their own car palio stile at a very aggresive pricing.
So I suggest you to take a test drive of Palio as well , coz maruti is buying the same engine from Fiat and Fiat's service network has improved after venturing with TATA

    Hi Guys,
Thanks to Sudhir I had gone through his comments way long, but now after riding Swift VDI(ABS) now I really want to add to his comments that Swift is really a car to go for in hatchback segmant. I have owned it for last 2 mts and milage wise its giving 18-20 kmpl on highway, as for 5/7 days I am on highway.
For all those who are in a mess in comparison b/w Swift & Getz, don't wait long, ride on Swift for once and you will clear the illusion of your minds. thanks Sudhir once again.

    Dear Members,

I'm planning to take a new hatchback and my budget is upto 6lacs. I've taken test drives of both Swift VDi and Skoda Fabia 1.2 MPI. I liked both and now, confused with the selection. Following are the major points

    1. On an average i drive around 20kms per day (3-4 days/week)

    2. Would the diesel option justify the above mentioned drive?or should i stick to petrol?

    3. I'm planning to keep the car for 3 - 3.5 years

    4. Skodas interiors and brand name is class apart,so i

am waiting for my Swift vdi ABS to be delivered in the coming week.. i have booked the car long time back.. thanks for the review.. still confused wther investing more money in ABS really necessary (i heard once turbo charged the normal breaks in Swift are inadequate and that there are chances for the vehicle to get drifted).. if any one has knowledge on same please advice...?

  31. on 13 Aug, 2008 at 05:30 PM Sajith Kumar (Cochin)

Swift diesel is the best among all other Indian cars in the price range of 4-6 lakh. It's value for money and nothing else can compete with this in terms of performance, styling, driving comfort and safety. You can confidently go an own it...

Swift VDI is a fabulous car! BUT is it worth paying 6LACs???? Buy a Fabia instead and enjoy the pleasure of driving a Skoda at the same price...

Fabia, the car for the future and the car that rocks!

Hi Guys, i'm in a serious dilemma over whether to chose Swift Vxi or the Getz Prime GVS 1.1. My drive would be on weekends. Am concerned about the mileage and also about the after sales service, which appears quite bad for Hyundai from the various reviews. Could anybody owning these cars enlighten me on the same? Thanks in advance.
    Cheers

hi, i bought swift VDI one month back. before purchasing, i did a markaet study related to cost, mileage, ambience, interior etc.i compared skoda fabia, swift vdi, indica vista, & gets. i have done a test drive in all these.finally among these i selected swit vdi. because its interior is more attractive, spacious and its fuel efficiency.if any one interested to buy any car ranging between 5 lac to 7 lac. swift vdi is the best option in all respects.good luck to all. be proud of it.
