   Your oservation of gear shift is may due to new engine. But surley not hard as as u said pillon rider to do the gear change. I too taken test drive in chennai and found nothing hard as u said

   Sorry to ask this, Have you ever driven the TATA 407 before?The Gear shift system is a new type which was introduced in the Swift and SX4 which is of latest technology.I feel the car which you have test drived would have been roughly handled before.Thats the problem with the dealers as they don't care for their test drive vehicle.Maruti has to take some steps to make its dealers maintain its test vehicles.I too drove a couple of vehicles and decided to go for the SX4 and I'm a proud owner now.

   Dear Benny-YES!! I have driven TATA 407. Would request you to leave the details out. I had the good fortune of dealing with three SX4s that day. Also, I do agree with you that it may be a dealers problem, but with all three cars? This observation was also put forward by the sales executive over there, that a lot of customer are feeling the same way about the gear shift. Still would go with your inputs and will surely test drive it in some other centre. Cheers!

   I also didnt find any trouble with gear shifting.Except getz and fiesta all cars that I TD felt similar, with getz coming at the top for butter smooth shifts and fiesta having its stick little offset to upfront than the needed position.

   Dear Mr. Joshi,
   So many knowledgeable readers are contributing here but none has noticed this extreme situation with the gear shift. Those vehicles have been victims of step fatherly treatment or have faced a rather rubbish mechanic. It appears to be a clear case of poor handling or a poor hand!

   Dear Dr. Vijai Singh
   My comment may not sound knowledgeable to other knowledgeable souls here, but it was then duly supported by the sales executive at Maruti, since the hard gear problem was a generic complaint from even new car buyers in the month of May. This may be even a particular stock problem. Incidentally Maruti in the month of June-July requested their dealer network to hunt-out all Sx4s who were facing this gear problem and the new Sx4s that you now get, are the refined ones. Thanks
