Hi,

I took the test drive of SX4 today and completely bowled on the spot. This car is really Awesome or I would say incomparable in this segment “C”.

Let me go a step back and explain you why I was completely flatted: Well I WAS looking for C segment car from last 2-3 months and I was researching on Web, visiting dealers and taking test drives etc. I took the test drive of Ford Fiesta, Verna, City etc and finally started the process of making my mind that there is no other option then Honda City. The parameters I took in consideration Price, Mileage, Luxury, Comfort, Brand and Resale value. I was planning to materialize my decision soon BUT Suddenly I heard that Maruti is planning to launch a new car and I decided to hold my decision for few more days.

And very soon Maruti rolled out SX4. I was swimming on web to find out more and more details and I did get it. I found a comparison chart where SX4 was compared with Fiesta, City / i-Vtech, Verna, and Corolla, and SX4 was leading the chart with best height, width and road clearance 190 MM, better then any other big size car including SUV Scorpio which is min 180 MM (visit it’s site for detail).

And finally today I visited Maruti showroom at New Delhi and took test drive of SX4 twice, and spontaneously decided to buy new Maruti SX4 Zxi top model. Below are some minor highlights:

1. It has a fresh jazzy sporty look
2. Extreme comfort for passenger and driver. Adjustable driver’s seat Height.
3. Full of sensors like – If you miss to wear seat belt, car will indicate you before traffic police J
4. ABS
5. Tubeless tyres with alloy wheels
6. Automatic climate control. It also tell you the temperature in out side the cars
7. Joystick control for Outside rear view mirror
8. Audio control at steering wheel
9. Airbags with releasing seatbelts
10. Euro – 4 compliance engine
And many more…!

Only hidden item which has not been declared by Maruti yet is Mileage. It is a strategic move by Maruti to capture the market but I discussed with dealers and user it will be some where around 12-16 KML, which seems not bad for a luxury segment car.

Hope this information will help you, in case of more information visit nearest Maruti dealer only in rare case I would like to answer any query…!

    pushpendratiwari,

I was doing exactly samething since few weeks. I have been researching to go for A3 segment car, drove many cars like fiesta , avao and finally thinking to go for a city-zx. But poor honda does not provide ABS, airbags for 9 laks...? I test driven the sx4 and it is really sturdy and fantastic pickup. But i still want to test drive in highways until then i cant decide

    Tiwariji,
    Namaskar.
Everything is ok.But to compare it with Corolla will be too far...After all Corolla's engine is superlative ...throughout the world.Yes both are Japs...It remains to be seen how the M series engine perform in Indian conditions..Well I am remaining optimistic about SX4.

What about the leg space at the back. When i tested the City and Verna i found city had much more leg room at the back seats. What about SX4

Thanks for your indepth analysis of Maruti SX4 .

Can you please confirm the Average ( fuel effeciancy ) of Maruti SX4 in city & highway running and whether there is any difference in Average between VXi & ZXi model. as sobody told me that , ZXi will give more Average upto
18 Km PL of petrol at highway running and VXi will give approx 15 / 16 Km PL of petrol at highway running .

Please give your valuable feedback & recommendation for selecting Honda Citi Vs Maruti SX4 & Why ?

We were amongst the first few to get the car for a test drive in Bangalore. We got a ZXI.Nothing in this segment comes anywhere close, and all other cars that have all these features cost atleast 1.5 lakhs more.On this front Maruti has a winner. We fell for those wheels which are straight off the original SX4 off roader. The car is stiff, the set up is for high speed driving. It will be unfair to expect this car to give anything over 12 in the city and 16 in the highway. That said,SX4 is a Killer...

cool reviews -I am happy to see shift in the market. what I noticed so far was a garbage. most of the makers focused on comfort and efficiency, forgot to make safer cars while doing so. I guess, buyers didn't bother about the safety, they put their & their families lives at stake.
Now, I see clear shift in Indian automobile industry.
    -Hyundai pulled down the prices/santro
    -M&S redefined the performance/swift
-Now M segment undergoes overhauling in terms of price,safety,comfort&efficiency/SX4

The car looks beautiful and big from outside. Is a far better-looking car from outside when compared to City-Gxi. Inside is little cramped when compared to CITY-Gxi. Engine is not as smooth as CITY-GXi. Pickup on city roads looks comparable to CITY-Gxi. Maruti has not yet published the mix/max front and rear leg room space, but, it looks little less than Gxi. Otherwise, for the price of SX4, and, the features provided in SX4, it is miles ahead of CITY-Zxi.

Awesome car with so many features bundled together but its slightly lag behind wrt the rear seat.City is still the best in the respect. There is a hand rest in SX4 which can be folded upwards but it will really provide lots of irritation to the third person sitting at middle. Its a concave bent which is quite uncomfortable.Besides this small hitch its miles ahead from the rest of the cars in this segment.

I had taken a test drive in SX4 ZXi and it was very comfortable to drive in lousy Andheri traffic and bumpy roads You feel at ease when you are in Indian road conditions Its superb in its class I did not waste time and booked now wait for the delivery

    Hi
I agree with your comment, matter of fact i compare honda civic specs with sx4, exept engine cc, cabin interior, it is inch above that. I know honda civic is different segment however with price of sx4, you are almost there with civic.i am certainly going for sx4 soon after rain (bombay)

Lot of saying about problem in Hand Rest provided on the rear seat.Is it a big issue? After so many reviews I thought Maruti should look into it and should make necessary correction immediately.I have also made my mind to buy this car immediately after this correction is made.Otherwise a fantastic car in the price range!...................

I've just got one for myself 4 days back. All is great. Look wise it beats every thing in its segment. Its really masculine. Interior quality is not so bad and features are great. Only issues are gear shift and rear view when parking, etc. In my case, shifting to first from a higher as well we reverse is really hard. Rest are great. I don't feel like coming out from the car.

It's been just over 2 months since i got the SX4. Thank god I had waited for it. Fabulous car, commanding stance for driver with great height and visibility, goes like a dream over potholes(guess because of wheel size and tubeless tires), great road holding and braking, very responsive engine (you won't feel that it is pushing 1200 kgs)though a bit noisy and ofcourse the clincher is its looks, really handsome (the best view is from 4 o'clock assuming your car is facing 12 o'clock).

    Hi! Pushpendra/all,

Gr8 reviews on ur blog... all these would definitely help in excellent choice amongst the "C-SEGMENT" war.

Amongst SX4/HONDA/CITY/FIESTA/ VERNA/AVEO my personal choice is MARUTI's SX4 Zxi....... why not, since, its providing u with the luxary of a 9 Lakh sedan(Gurgaon price). Prior to SX4 my liking was Honda City VTEC, for gr8 honda's engine/ odometer/alloys and 100bhp- 8.0 Lakh, a clear diff of 1.10 Lakh and that too without SX4 features.

Most pathetic car i ever drove.. no prob with the power n space.. but one thing is for sure that maruti cant provide luxury.. the interiors are dead as in all other maruti cars.. its only usp is its bhp n its spacious... other than that... verna is quite good than sx4 with class apart interiors..

  31. on 17 Oct, 2007 at 02:37 AM Furious

Actually the thing is that you cant really decide.. What i personally think that in this segment, fight is in between City, SX4 and Verna.

SX4 is a winner in power as it has got max BHP out of the three.. City has got mileage and is the most spacious. And Verna is actually a blend of City and SX4 with power and class interiors both. Moreover, City's new model will be available very soon in market around 2008 end. so to go for city would be suicidal at this time. I put my money on Verna n SX4

The SX 4 is a wonderful car....its the best buy in its class and its much more value for the money we pay......its loaded with goodies and looks really pretty n aggresive at the same time....no car in its segment comes loaded with the safety features and the remote in the steering wheel is really fun to have .....its good road clearance and the alloy wheels eat up the indian roads with a grin...maruti has come witha good offering and honda city should be very scared.....guys go for it...

  33. on 20 Feb, 2008 at 01:17 PM Daya Arekere (Bangalore)

Mileage, Mileage, Mileage....I took delivery of my SX4, SL Copper last week and took it on a drive to mysore, since the first service is pending no speeding, at all. But mileage, hold your breath, 17 km/L with complete AC driving. but in the 70-80 km speed/hr on HP Power petrol.
Method used, full tank until auto cutoff, again same method, on reaching Bangalore. 7.84 Lts, filled only....
