If you are going for the City, then buy the VTEC version. The other versions have a puny 77 bhp engine and a soft suspension. This one has a respectable 100bhp and in the hands of a good driver (who isn't afraid to take it to 6250 rpm redline), this thing can beat most cars on the indian roads. The handling is extremely crisp by Indian standards. All around disc brakes are great, but beware of tailgating drivers (esp.in Indicas and other stupid Tata junk that plys as taxis on indian roads). I drive very aggressively. I have done 185kph in this car so far although I won't recommend taking it beyond 140kph...I owned an Accent before this and also drove Icons, Fiestas among others before going for this car. Before the Accent, I owned a BMW (in the US) but thats another story.

Also for the people who aren't motorheads like me, there are really good interiors in this car - easily the best in class.

How would you rate the GX model to the previous model of VTEC?
As I have come across, the new VTEC lacks power and not a fun to drive. Is this true..
    One more question..
Is it better to buy a second hand VTEC (previous version) than going to the new car spending around 10 lacs.

Previous VTEC was the best. It was actually the 2 generation old US spec Honda Civic. But Honda got smart and gave us the "Jazz".

The new City VTEC is more refined and tuned to provide same mileage as the 77bhp version in lower rpm. Idea here is that most indians don't drive a car at 3500rpm+. If you can take VTEC to 4500+, its 2nd set of valves open up and then it pulls well.

Bottomline, go for new VTEC. I won't recommend 2nd hand old VTEC because u never know the history of a car in Ind

    Ash,

It was a pleasure to read your review.....a moptorhead and a writerhand! Let me ask you a tough one (obviously not tough for you)-- Which car/make/model would you suggest to someone looking for value for money, does 50-70 km per day, wants comfort and economy (oh!, us Indians), stability and safety (dream!?) and soesn't want to get suckered into spending a fortune on spares and services???

Kamal: I would suggest you wait for the next version of the City. The rumors are
    1) i-VTEC engines as standard (101hp and 120hp)
    2) Styling like the new Accord
    3) A little bigger in all dimensions

But with petrol at 55/liter (and going up IMHO), you may want to get a diesel. Go for the 1.6L new diesel in Ford Fiesta.

    Cheers.
