Cheers to 'Mainis' for delivering an energy efficient car that delivers performance needed for Indian city roads.

I am not going to comment on the styling nor on the size of the car (scope for improvement). Lets just say - its comfortable.

I have used this car for more than 30 months now and it has been a smooth drive. Its relatively trouble free and service options in Mumbai are handled out of Bangalore. I have had no major cause for complaints with either the car or their service support here in Mumbai. Reva's total downtime has been less than 7 days in the last 30 months and that includes the 2005 Mumbai deluge.

The car has two forward gear modes (Economy and Fast) apart from neutral and a reverse gear. Reva does 60 kms/hour in the Economy mode and aournd 70 kms/hr in the Fast mode on plain roads. Driving in the economy and fast mode will give you around 60 Kms and 50 Kms respectively per charge cycle. The A/C is powerful and works well even in the sweltering Mumbai summers.

To my surprise, REVA survived the July 26 2005 deluge. I was directly under the cloud burst and the water level on the road was around 60 cms. While one found SUVs and high priced cars floating in the water, REVA simply waded through these waters without breaking down - did not give up till I reached home. Though, post that REVA Engineers had to change the circuit boards and retune the settings.

Overall it's a great car and is environment friendly, but guess what - you may still need a PUC certificate.

Mumbai has lesser REVA cars on the Road than the Mercs and Beemers. Its time to look at this car seriously.

I fully agree with the review on the Reva as a user of the car for 12 months in Bangalore. I'd further describe it as having the comfort of a car and the convenience of a 2-wheeler in terms of parking and running costs. The range of 50-60 km per charge cycle is what you practically get though the manufacturer claims 80 km (that must be ideal test conditions). Still, for people who have fixed distances to travel like home to ofice, this car is a great option!

No doubt its a great car for indian roads and environment friendly as well, but the cost is not practical. The taxes on this car should be nil or minimum.

Reva designers are to be blamed for the car design. It is mere a toy and I will not find it comfortable to drive it on roads and to office. People literally make fun of the car and the one inside it. Though it is bad mentality, we should not forget that car looks ugly.

There will be many takers for the car had the design been better.

Better body styling and techno upgrade on battery range along with Eco-marketing would go a long way to place this ZEV(zero emissions vehicle)on the fore front of Indian made electric cars for the European and N.A mrkts where the real potential is for this marvel of desi engineering - East or West India is the Best !!

    Nitin,
The design makes the car to have a good grip on road. It's indeed needed for this light vehicle to go on speed of 60.
Recall the shape of first motor vehicle.
You can be proud that you will be the one among who is caring for environment.

I have always been environment freindly and will always cars and any thing else of utility that help us save environment. I test drove car in Delhi about ten years ago. The car is not visible in showrooms-i live in Lucknow-and is not well known. The costs are exhorbitant. Like minded people and the manufracturers should vouch for tax breaks. Why other manufraturers are not bringing in electric or hybrid models in India? There is general apathy in this regard.

The manufacturers have now recovered the research and development cost and should now price it ideally at Rs. 1.50 lakhs to get volumes and increase presence in Metro cities where it is an ideal car. Otherwise it will suffer the fate it does not deserve. Bruno Castellino

I want to buy one. But these things deter me:
    1. The range reported (50/60 kms.-per charge) by users.
    2. The price. Put pressure on gov.through env. agencies (governmental & other) to reduce it by giving subsidy.
    3. Fear of stopping on the way. Make arrangements with petrol dealers (indian oil/bp/HP etc) to charge it from their outlets at nominal cost.
    4. 227kg capacity is too low for a car. Two people and two children will come to that much. What abt the luggage? and a dog?

mojority of the time i travel alone in a car spending for the same petrol for four. thats make me interested in this car but always as amy second car.problems are 1.cost 2.look 3.just 50-60 km/charge ASK. why oil co.holding govt do not promote this real green car EXAMPLE 1,00,000 cars x 50km/day x25days/mth x 12 mth = 1,50,00,00,000 (rs150 CRORES OF PETORL SAVING)BUT ALAS GOVT WILL LOOSE LOTS OF TAX ON PETROL IF IT PROMOTES THIS CAR.THIS IS HOW OUR GOVT IS GREEN WITH RED SHADOW.

Can anybody throw some light on what is the battery life and what is the cost of battery for REVA? , when determining the running cost we should take into account the cost of battery as well, because battery life is limited (in the range of 2 - 3years and no. of charge cycles)and these batteries are not cheap.
