Hi,

I have purchased Verna VGT CRDI on 1st Feb .

From first service (1200 KM) onward I am facing following problem in vehicle
1)    Performance problem: Vehicle feels pathetic acceleration at high speed and start vibration and noice. And it’s unable to cross 160 KMH mark which can be easily done by any other less powerful competitor like Ford Feasta, Accent CRDI and even by Indigo. This also feels in gear shift. If we change gears as per user manual provided along with vehicle , then it become unmovable and engine starts heavy vibration and sounds BURR BURR … its turbo charger gets in effect only if engine RPM cross 2200.
If AC is switch ON then performance become more pathetic.

2)    Mileage problem
In city driving its stretch up to 12 KMPL without AC and on highway it goes up to 16 KMPL without AC as a speed of 120 KMH.

At speed of 80 it gives good mileage app 20 but as speed is increased average goes of drastically .
@80 KMH on Highway without AC : 20 KMPL
@100 KMH on Highway without AC : 17 KMPL
@120-140 KMH on Highway without AC : 14 KMPL

I don’t know how it will perform in summer with AC ON

3)    Low visibility on night driving:
Headlight is not enough for night driving. And things are only visible for few yards

4)    Stability Issue at high speed
Again hat high speed vehicle becomes unstable and tries to go off-road in either direction.

5)    Brake Oil Leakage:
After 5000 KM running its brake oil light indicator starts glowing. I have approached workshop they said its master cinder have problem and they replace it.

After 9-10 visits to workshop my problem remains same.

no this can not be true.i have driven this monster at 184 kmph n could still go on...

  2. on 30 Mar, 2007 at 12:52 PM Papu (Jalna)

Yes, this can be true with your vehicle and I have experince its tourque, accelration , power upto 1200 KM . and after that all problem started .I have visited Dealer 10 time and they said there is no issue with vehicle every thing is fine and performing upto the mark.

Pawandeep you should know that any car will give a poor mileage when you go faster. You will get the optimal mileage when you drive your car in optimal speed range (60-80KMP). You can not expect it to give 20KMH when you are going at 120KMH.

i think this kind of a vague and impractical review has been put up by the rival manufacturer like fiesta, swift or sumthin....coz if u look at the review carefully...it states certain things which are pretty impractical for a car that has been critically acclaimed! it concentrates only on its cons and says that the car has NO pros at all...which i feel is a lie coz i'm a proud owner of the verna vgt crdi and i can assure u that this car is the BEST IN ITS CLASS!!...be it power or mileage!

  5. on 20 May, 2007 at 01:03 AM Paramdeep Singh

Mr. Papu is saying that 160 KMPH is easily achieved by Ford Fiesta but company has mentioned its top speed at 156 KMPH. By this I can say that this review is completely vague. I have driven my verna at 180 many times and now it is 8800 KMs driven. No problem yet. It is the Best car in its segment and a segment above it

sir,i am going to buy a new car....and i want a big one.I dont use it for highways, jus to ride in city,i have read the reviews of many cars in this website, and i found verna,a best one, will it make me happy if i buy it....

  7. on 24 Jun, 2007 at 11:13 PM Siddharth

Mr.Papu is writing on it's own review

    Papu,
Learn how to drive before writting a review...

  9. on 30 Jun, 2007 at 12:49 PM Harpal Singh

This is indeed a very conflicting view. Papu has unknowingly justified the Verna's good performance in point 2...20kmpl at 80kmph...can anyone call that bad??!!!

People like me look towards reviews for an honest feedback before making the final decision and such wrong user reviews can push a buyer into purchasing the worng vehicle.

You might be thinking posting comments that I don’t know driving, I don’t know anything about cars and … so on . but for your kind information I have Indgo Dicor and Octavia and both are doing well, no issue at all.
As I told above that this issue is only with my Car (Verna) only. Now it’s 14000 KM done and all tyres are BLAD and only giving 8 KMPL. On highway at 80-90 speed it only giving 13 KMPL
I have visited a private garage they figured out problem with suspension. And this is main reaso

Mr Papu i would like to have your comment on TATA INDIGO DICOR, because i want to buy a car and i am little bit confuse betn VERNA VGT, and Indigo XL Please advise me which will be better for me as i am going to own a 1st brand new car and i am not among the rich people like you who r having 2~3 cars. so please advise me

  12. on 06 Jul, 2007 at 05:59 PM Papu (Jalna)

Indigo DICOR is good but XL is not worth. XL has a longer wheelbase but share same DICOR 70 BHP Engine which is not sufficient for car of this size.
On other side Verna is a good car and have a luxury feeling over Indigo and also very refine engine and very low NAV value and good build quality then Indigo but I have a bitter experience with it may be due to Dealer’s ignorance over issues.
If you can spend little more then go for Optra Magnum but it’s a new car.
You may call me on 9929112535

  13. on 04 Aug, 2007 at 10:19 PM Sanju

Ford Fiesta is a better option than a Verna if you are looking for reliability, refinement, Handling and riding comfort. But you may go for a Verna Diesel if you are looking for Straight line acceleration. In case you are driving a car in city you will not be able to tell the difference of power between the two. Verna is using a diesel power plant from Detroit diesel ( same as Accent CRDi) which historically was not reliable and was reported opening @ 75000 km approx.

  16. on 08 Aug, 2007 at 11:40 PM Lucky

    KALAICHELVI,
I WILL SUGGEST U TO TAKE A TEST DRIVE. FEEL THE CAR. ITS GREAT. NO OTHER CAR GIVE U THAT SAFE FEELING WHILE SITING ON DRIVER'S SEAT. ACCELERATION IS SUPERB. JUST TRY IT.

  17. on 13 Aug, 2007 at 04:14 PM Sudarsan Parthasarathy (Chennai)

    Kalaichelvi,
I would side you to go for a verna xi. Its a amazing car. I have a 20days old verna with me. I am unable to comment on the mileage, as i have driven only around 500kms as of now. Good value for money.

  18. on 31 Aug, 2007 at 03:23 PM Soma

i agree with papu's experience bcoz a person who is experiencing the problem is explaining and no owner tells shit abt his own car

  19. on 25 Sep, 2007 at 11:52 PM Sushil (Satara)

I have been owning a Verna CRDI for last 10 months and almost reached 13000 kms The stats are
    No. of days: 306
    Fuel consumed till date: 834.50
    Curr. odo. reading: 12987
Running cost per km: Rs. 2.28 (only)
Maintenance cost per km: Rs. 0.46 (till 2nd service).

These figs are all that I collected and compiled into an excel sheet. I have driven the car in all terrain (Bangalore to Bombay, Pune, Oooty, Kodaikanal, Mysore, Tirupati and villages in Maharashtra. I strongly recommend this car.

  20. on 29 Oct, 2007 at 07:02 PM Rahul

is vernas diesel engine reliable how many km can it run before repairs any idea

  21. on 30 Oct, 2007 at 11:13 AM Niteshwar Bhardwaj (Ludhiana)

verna is not giving airbags even in its 8,67,000
price tag and the cars feels not stable beyond 160
i was confused between verna and laura with numerous
    stable features

  22. on 15 Nov, 2007 at 02:31 AM Harish Ravi (Bangalore)

    VERNA ROCKS!! FEEL IT'S POWER.
HOW MANY CARS CAN MATCH IT'S POWER IN IT'S CLASS. IT'S DESIGN IS SO APT AND IT'S DESIGNED ONLY FOR SPEED AND NOTHING ELSE... IT'S A CHEETHA ON ROAD... EVEN SX4 OR CEDIA OR FIESTA CAN CATCH THIS BEAST.
CAN U BELIEVE THAT I WAS ABLE TO GIVE A GREAT CHASE TO HONDA CR-V... GREAT VALUE FOR MONEY... GO FOR IT... SURRENDER TO THIS BEAST AND IT'S RAW POWER

  23. on 15 Nov, 2007 at 11:06 PM Roh Shah (Ghaziabad)

I think that this guy doesn.t owe hyundai verna crdi because i am having it and i love it's peformance it's 1.5crdi engine makes it a beast on the road i have driven this car at a speed of 180kmph i did not felt any of these problems mentioned by this guy.....
Even at 170kmph i just have to press the accelerator a bit and the car reaches 180....

  24. on 14 Dec, 2007 at 12:41 PM Murali Keshav (Bangalore)

Guys, I have read all the comments posted above. I too own a Verna (Petrol). I was one of the first few to buy Verna in Bangalore. I completely agree with all of you, including Papu. Some cars are troublesome. I have heard of Honda City giving problems! It depends on your luck. Verna is my 4th car in 4 years. Verna is good in parts, like any other car. It's good in terms of VFM, comfort and intrs. But I feel it suffers a great in terms of stability. It's not just speed which matters, afterall.

it is not true i have persanally test driven verna from two different dealers and found it a wonderful car booked sx model

  26. on 05 Feb, 2008 at 06:25 PM ASHWANI SURI

Harish Ravi you said a Verna can make a Cedia eat dust. i do not agree with you as i own one and there is no car that can compete with a Cedia.
the acceleration is superb. i am not sure if you undestand the meaning of "SURGE", well that is what you feel when the CEDIA takes off.

Hi... I happen to talk to a driver of a Verna next to me in the signal, and he did tell me the points 3 and 4 that Pappu has mentioned here.
But everyone says the car is really good.... I'm confused!

  30. on 06 Mar, 2008 at 11:01 PM aa aa (Mumbai)

the car is real good - solid - mileage is very good. I have been using the Verna and have no complaints. After sales service is a dealer specefic issue - I had a gr8 experience though.

I don't face any problem as u r. i am using this car from feb 2007. Averege is above 15 and speed is above 175

  34. on 03 Apr, 2008 at 03:44 PM Abhimanyu

GUYS I OWN VERNA CRDI FROM PAST 11 MONTHS AND IT HAS DONE 15000 KMS,TILL DATE I HAVE NOT FACED ANY PROBLEM WHATSOEVR.THE CAR IS REALLY SMOOTH AND YOU HARDLY CAN TELL IF ITS A DEISEL CAR.THE ACCELERATION IS BEYOND EXPECTATION AND YOU CAN EASILY GO ABOVE 180KMPH.WHETHER THE AC IS ON/OFF THE ENGINE DOES NOT HAVE ANY AFFECT INPERFORMANCE.
THE MILAGE IS LIKE 14 TO 15 KMPL IN CITY
AND ON HIGHWAY IT GIVES BETWEEN 15 TO 18 KMPL DEPENDING ON YOUR SPEED.THE BEST CAR IN ITS CLASS.

  35. on 06 Apr, 2008 at 10:34 PM Ravi Sankar (Pune)

Pappu's review of Verna CRDi (allegedly owned by him) is interesting. But his statement that the car is unable to cross 160 Kmph "which can be easily done by any other less powerful competitor like Ford Feasta" gave the game away. Verna is a fine sporty car which competes with a segment above. It is finest Diesel Car available in India.

    Hi friends,
My budget is less than 8.5L. i want to buy a excellant car?
I finally shortlist 5 cars. Honda city Gxi, logan 1.6GLS/1.5DLS, Hyundai Verna xi/crdi, Ford Fiesta zxi / tdci sxi and Suzuki Sx4 Would like to know which will suite for me. I am normal user i.e 200km pm) rarely will go for long trip i.e 1100km yearly once. My only expectation is mileage, low maintenance, good performance and drive comfort. Pls advice me ASAP.

    Hi,
I am constantly driving my verna both in Highway & in city (Bangalore) Nodoubt the car is excellant with its performance.. I have driven top speed upto 190KM (I am not exgagerating) on BMIC road, yes the monster roars & moves to that speed provided you give good power to all gears. The only fear are the breaks..I have without ABS..& i have not driven new verna with ABS
To be Frank the car is really Awsome..You should know how to drive it, to know the actual power.

  38. on 30 May, 2008 at 11:35 PM Rajeev

    Hi guys,
I got a Verna today.I wanna know whether there is any logic behind the saying that driving a new car at optimum speeds of 60-80km/hr,until it has done 5000-10,000 kms will tune up the engine & is it a good idea to take the car on the ghats within couple of weeks of purchase,or does it cause any strain on the engine and reduce the fuel economy/efficiency on the long run!?Any comments welcome please. Dr.Rajeev

  39. on 09 Jun, 2008 at 05:27 PM Nipun Mohendroo (Faridabad)

Hi Rajeev..It's recommended not to drive a new vehicle at high speeds bcoz the piston and the internal waals of the cylinder take some time[say upto 5000KMs] to get tuned. During first 5000 Km the upper layer of engine and the inner layer of cylinder leaves some fine particles which get mixed with the engine oil and these particles are flushed off in First and second dervice. So if you drive your vehicle at higher speeds during these first 5000 Kms there are more chances of wear n tear of engin

  40. on 17 Jul, 2008 at 11:58 AM Jaisimha Ag (Bangalore)

I test drove the Ford Fiesta, Logan and Verna and based on the test drive I tell you that you can really tell the extra power punch that a verna carries. If mileage is ur criteria then fiesta or ford and if you want power with a small compromise of mileage then verna feels great. i have decided to buy the crdi soon. Would like to know the braking difference between ABS and no ABS

  41. on 13 Oct, 2008 at 03:24 PM Biju Neduvellil (Ernakulam)

Paaapu... What is this? After reading your review abt verna, one can easily make out that u know crap abt cars. huh.

    I have a Verna CRDI SX - Model 2007
    has Done 23000 KM
Average Mileage i get is 16 KM(Always goes 100 plus KMPH) - I am more than happy with it.
Pick up - Just awesome, Mind Boggling
Top Speed touched till now - 180 KMPH (It was not the end - I had to slow down due to traffic)

Pappu please check the car, seems like u have bought some other car thinking it is a verna :D
