To, Date: 4/3/07.
Shri Ratan Tata.
Chairman,
Tata Motors.
Sub: Defective Breaking system in Tata Safari Dicor.
Ref: My previous letter Dated 15 Jan 07.
Dear Sir,
We are very sorry to inform you that after various attempts made to get the problem solved, detected in my Tata Safari Dicor have received negligible response from your organization.
As per letter received from M.D. Shri Ravi Kant he has directed the case to Mr. Vikram Sinha to resolve the problem.
But till today the problem is not resolved. It was clearly informed by Tata Motors that there is no solution for the problem till today.
Further I was advised to take delivery of my vehicle and use it as research for the problem is taken up.
After waiting for the month I tried to contact Mr. Vikram Sinha continuously for a week but I was unable to contact him.
Fortunately, we were in your office at World Trade Center for a meeting along with association delegates with Mr Sham Mani for development of Tata vehicles sales and feed back for improvement in commercial vehicles. After the meeting all delegates along Mr. Kulbir Sing Mistry went to Mr. Vikram Sinha’s office to have a word regarding the problem.
We sent the massage to see him and waited for his response for about 20 minutes but there was no response at all. After some time Mr. Vikram Sinha walked out of his office and came in the lobby where we were waiting for him and said that he has no time to talk to us. Mr Kulbir singh asked him that if you have no time to talk to your customer how are you going solve our problem, and asked what we should do to the defective Safari? Mr, Vikram Sinha arrogantly replayed that keep it idle at your home. We requested him repeatedly to allow us 2 minutes to discuss the problem but he arrogantly refused and walked away.
From the disgrace ting incident we strongly feel that Tata Motors is lease bothered for their customer, but let me remind you that customer is always on top priority. We do not understand that what important work Mr Vikram Sinha might be having than attending the customer who is with serious problem at your doorstep ? . Is not our time valuable ?.
If such a treatment is given to the designated officials of reputed association having relationship with Tata organization for last 25 years what type of treatment general customer might be getting.
We have also noticed that your communication system is worst. After calling persistently for a week to communicate with Mr. Vikram Sinha nether he is available in office nor bothered to call back.
Please note that we have lost faith in Tata organization which is directly or indirectly going to reflect in relationship we have for commercial vehicles.
we strongly fill that there is no amicable solution for the problem and we are force to take further action.
Waiting for your personal intervention in to the matter.
Regretful customer.

Yes, the callous attitude of the company is condemnable. Better you sit silently at the entrance of the show room with a placard and when once you could attract the prospective customers atleast for a day, the organisation will listen to your problem.

Dear Mr. Pravin. Your letter to TATA is similar to my case regarding TATA indigo LX.My vehicle is repeadetly with work shop for various defects.done only 30,000 Km, taken up the matter upto Telco Gurgaon, got feedback calls from Pune but i feel all these are done to fool the Chairman 'Sir Ratan TATA'.He has to seriously look towards repeated complaints.
As advised by Mr. Vikram sinha to you I am going to put my car idle at my home and buy toyota

Dear Mr.Pravi, I really feel sorry for the trouble has caused to you but this really has made my mind and im not gonna buy ttata Safari or any other vehicle. Mr. Singh(Gurgaon) you have written that you would be keeping your Safari idle at hme and buy a Toyota, but then it is not helping you or any other. What can we do as a Customer to bring these Hitler styled corporate on their knees and teach them a lesson that Customer is the boss????

Hi Mr. Pravin - I have faced a similar issue with brake chamber in Indica DLS ( 2003 ). It took almost a week for the service guys to diag. the issue itself. The vehicle is sparingly used and just crossed 20K Kms & I had to shell out around 14K to repair. Very bad service and disappointing performance.

Dear Mr. Pravin, I have faced different problem in my Indica DLS(2006). Oil leak in engine & other various defect were found after 600 Kms. run, Engine have been changed and it will take 9 months time to bring back to normal condition, after lot of interaction & debate. I have doubt there is no quality check before dispatch the car. All correspondence related this car is kept with me.

    Mr Pravin,
I was looking for a Safari, but this poor record of services has made me change my mind. I am from the services and believe me I know it the best what BACK UP stands for. If these guys dont's offer this let them be the only ones driving their cars. I am not buying it-- the mess with them.I support you and am not buying it any more. The nationalism need not support the arrogant thick heads.Unfortunately Toyotas understand us better than our own country mates.

After reading all these reviews, I decided not to for a new safari. I have a 1998 model which was fine till the past 1 year, and became a burden to maintain now. So wanted to go for the new 4x4 latest model. but looks like the quality of latest vehicles in worse than the 1998 model.

I have two TATA cars, Indica and Indigo. I wanted to promote an Indian company. Cars are good, but TATA service stations drive me mad every time I give my car for servicing. I am fed up with both Concorde and VST service stations in Chennai. I am not going to buy a TATA Car again.

What is the state of affairs now.

    Dear All,
Reading grievances posted by unsatisfied customers of TATA leaves me shocked & wondering why we Indians are so tolerant & accept things the way it has been forced on us. Currently being in Japan I see at first hand the ALWAYS RED CARPET treatment given to customers. CONSUMERS here are UNITED & COME TOGETHER to push out of market a below performing manufacturer/service provider. Why can't we come together & resonate to take action against service & quality of vehicles from TATA Motor

    Dear all ,
First of all i would like to know whether Mr.Peavin got any reply for the mail .I beleive this is a worst kind of customer service that could be provided by a company like TATA .I have read a lot about TATA motors and their new ventures outside India but then after reading the mail from Pravin the whole idea about TATA motors has changed .And also TATA is known for their business ethics because of few people like Vikram its ...........

  12. on 10 Oct, 2007 at 12:16 AM Harneet Singh

Tata Motors, sadly has worst service. I own Indica Turbo and it's a great vehicle at this price but after 6 services, they have brought it to ground ZERO. I have complained TATA Customer Care various times but of no avail. It seems like they hardly service anything except for car cleaning. The ride quality is becoming worse after every service. Truly very disappointed.
I was planning on buying their latest model (4x4 VX DiCOR 2.2 VTT) but will wait for GM Captiva.

There is no point debating about without knowing what kind of reply TATA has given to the above letter. We are seeing only one side of the picture. I am sure TATA is a responsible company and will take required action. Dont blame an organization for the act of an official.

    Dear Mr. Pravin,

I am sorry for the trouble you have faced with Tata Safari. I must thank you for writing this letter in this public forum.

I had made my mind to purchase Tata Safari Dicor and was reviewing the comments to check which model I should go for which is value for money.

I have decided not to buy this vehicle, in fact I have also ruled out my second choice of Tata Indigo. I was kind of biased to purchase Indian made car but looks like it'll take a long time to get up to world

we cant blame only TATA, this time in market you can face problem with all vehicles. all the reason behind of these things only thier market policies, they decided fix margin and covering huge market. the margin is fix but quality decreasing everyday and everyone getting vehicles at low prices.
whatever concern is, just check which is best option for you, go for that.
and for this thing we are going to launch a automotive portal soon with all these concern.

It really pains to know how the company reacts to customer. I am really worried about FIAT who are on the other side in terms of quality. I wonder what would be the quality of 1 lakh car.looks like use-and-throw.

  22. on 20 Oct, 2007 at 10:10 AM Sumit (New Delhi)

The probability of landing in such trouble with TATA cars is alarmingly high when compared with other manufacturers. Do not be tempted by the low cost feature packed cars they offer, you will find yourself extremely frustrated.

Fiat plans to come out with their stunning diesel Linea next year, I wish they had not partnered with TATA.

    Dear Mr. Pravin,
I am sorry for the trouble you have faced with Tata Safari. I must thank you for writing this letter in this public forum.
I had made my mind to purchase Tata Safari Dicor 2.2VTT and was reviewing the comments to check owners reviews.
Alarmingly, I have decided not to buy this vehicle, in fact I have decided to mail this letter across to 2 of my friends who were planning to purchase the same model along with me. We were planning to get a good discount by purchasing 3 car.

  26. on 02 Nov, 2007 at 04:42 AM Narayan K.P (Ghaziabad)

    s. Moreover an officemate was planning to purchase an Indica Xeta, PLANS CHANGED. The Xeta guy's going for a Fiat Palio Stile and we Safari guys are planning to go for Toyota Innova instead. Value for money is what we want. The common feedback includes worst servicing done by TATA, we want a big family which will be reliable atleast for the next four years. No car can do that without proper servicing conditions. Toyotas are the best in this line of business. Customers have a LOT of Options!!

    Dear Mr.Pravin,
Great thing to enlighten people in such a big way, I was seriously planning to go for a Safari, but the mindset is changed, I also own a Hyundai vechile and i tell you folks, they are very professional and of course when an opinion is voiced at only a manager of workshop level big problems are solved-guess tata being an Indian company should not forget the word hospitality and treat customers like you and all the others as really important people-Somebody tell the brass to shine

I AM M.B.A STUDENT I OWN TATA SAFARI DICOR THE CLULCH OF SAFRI IS HARDER THAN OTHER SUV AVAILABLE IN INDIA BUT STILL THEY ARE NOT WORKING ON IT I DON'T KNOW WHY TATA SHOULD LOOK FOR QUALITYU AND SERVICE TO SURVIVE IN GLOBAL MARKET.IF INDIAN CUSTOMER IS NOT SATISFIED WHAT HE GONA DO..

  33. on 23 Dec, 2007 at 07:08 PM Jay Kumar (Mumbai)

was seriously contemplating buying the new 2.2 VVT 4x4 EX.... but the revieews are very discouraging... even though the SUV 'may' be good.
I would hate to waste my time and effort arguing at a dealership only to find out that they really dont care. ive been seeing the mahindra ads featuring pawan Goenka portraying concern for service. although i personally feel the scorpio is the ugliest car in the segment
...there seems little options for those seeking a decent 4x4 suv.

Thanks for bringinng the problem to public forum, actually i had a plan to go for safari, but now i have completely dropped the interest in tata vehicles,if this is what the service they r going to provide to the customer, then what is the fun in bringing 1 lakh car to the market?

    Mr. Pravin
Seems we are sailing in same Boat. I purchased Tata safari Dicor 2.2 VTT a month back & facing same problem & tech. at service centre are unable to solve problem which they have identified to be" some wiring stuff problem", the service light is always LIT on my dash board. Car is unable to take pick up at times & this can be fatal specially when you are overtaking. My sincere advice to all u guys DONT EVER BUY TATA CARS/& so called SUV's

  41. on 28 Jan, 2008 at 10:45 PM Tarun

it seams that Tata dealers across India do not now how to deal properly with the customers. I had recently been to a Tata dealer in Delhi and GOD, their attitude was as if they were obliging me my showing the car. Wonder how they will treat the prospective buyers of nano

  42. on 02 Feb, 2008 at 02:59 PM Yourbedazzled_Guy

This is only one side of the story. Mr. Pravin was trying to use muscle power and politics. Infact there is no problem in his Safari. And now GoondaRaj has invaded the net and trying fool all of us.

  43. on 13 Feb, 2008 at 09:38 PM Gopan G Nair

I am also facing several quality related issues with my Indigo Marina, purchased couple of years back. The local service agents do not show much of interest in listening to your problems. I wish TATA would be more keen on quality and customer support in the future

  44. on 21 Feb, 2008 at 06:33 PM Amol

Every org. has some pros and cons...Google the net and you will find such many cases even for Maruti and Toyota. Do not just blame the whole TATA group just for this incident. TATA as a group is always respective and responsible in India. No one can be perfect as we want.

    Hi Pravin,

Thanks for your review here. I was seriously thinking of buying a Safari. I indeed like the looks. Thank you for bringing out into the open what is not apparently visible.

Bad performance as well as callous attitude to customers is surely a turn off.

I have decided to take a look at Toyota.

Thanks for the review. Is there any improvement in quality in the latest 2.2vtt version

  50. on 27 Mar, 2008 at 11:42 AM B.Mustak

My God this Safari is a horrible car. It was my favorite car but after going through peoples experiences, I have changed my mind. Why they are not able to understand that because of this they have lost so many customers.

  51. on 27 Mar, 2008 at 03:33 PM S.Parvathy

Theexperience Mr. praveen is talking is not true. I am using a Safari 2.2 VTT DICOR and is a ntastic vehicle in this segment comparing to innova or Scorpio or Tavera. You go a a dealer and ask for a test drive of Safari 2.2 VTT and feel the performance for yourself instead of one odd customer's feel on 3.0 lit. It is not any imaginary explanation from me, it is a pleasure what I am getting for all others also to enjoy. See and belive for yourself.

  52. on 03 Apr, 2008 at 10:32 AM Nks

Hi Parvathy .. just a little bit of update on your comment "You go a a dealer and ask for a test drive" ... I have been following up for two weeks for a test drive of Safari at Concorde Motors - Velachery Chennai ... but of no use .. those sales guys show no response and are least bothered to arrange for a test drive .. maybe if they did i would have got a Safari by now .. If their sales attitude itslef is so poor ... i can imagine their after sales service ... fyi I found VST more responsive .

I think if a high official does not have time to talk for 2 minutes to a customer in his office so its better that he should clean shits on road instead of occupying a good post.Mind it its of no use we mention our reviews;they are least bothered by all this.

  56. on 19 Apr, 2008 at 04:50 PM Siddharth (Ghaziabad)

Hi Folks, I am completely enamoured with the 2.2 VTT Safari , as I believe , at that cost , Its the best head turner !!! I have read in other reviews (team BHP , Autoindia etc ) that the engine performance is miles ahead of the previous Safari's as well. I would have bought this SUV hands down if I did not have any experience with TATA . Unfortunately , I have a TATA Indigo ( good VFM car ), and the after sales SUCKS !!!. Dont have the patience to haggle with sales reps anymore !!

  57. on 20 Apr, 2008 at 01:58 AM Balaji_G1947

What will a Ratan Tata do? He is himself not bothered about customers. Is he?

If he was, he would instruct a Vikaram Sinha to simply replace all that is defective, and not act arrogant or elusive.

On the other hand, when you give a car to Tata Motors dealer, there is good chance that genuine and good part is replaced by an old and defective one, when the vehicle is handed over to you. It has happened to me.
SHAME ON TATA MOTORS, and its Service orientation.

  58. on 02 May, 2008 at 03:46 PM Surya

I have discussed the matter with Mr. Sinha and found that Mr. Pravin, being a politician was trying to pressurise for replacement of the Safari without having any serious problem. According to Mr. Pravin, the vehicle sways at 130KMPH speed when braked suddenly. This happens even on Scorpio, Innova, Bolero and Mr. Sinha himself drove these vehicles at test track to see the difference. Actually we should praise Mr. Sinha for not bogging down to political pressure which is destroying the country

  59. on 02 May, 2008 at 04:19 PM Pravin Paithankar

Actualy the feed back given by Mr. Sinha is totaly wrong i am not a politician atall and the vehicle is still pulling left even in speed of 65K.M. and the defect is not at all resolved.

I GUESS WHEN ITS SOME VEHICLE PROBLEMS TATA'S TREAT THEIR CUSTOMERS LIKE CONVICTS.

YOU SHOULD GO THE WAY SOME GUY IN KOLHAPUR OR SATARA DID. HE PUT UP A BOARD ON THE SIDES AND THE REAR WITH ALL COMPLAINTS AND BEGAN DRIVING AROUND THE CITY. THIS NEGATIVE COMMENTS IMMEDIATELY GOT TATA'S STAFF WORKED UP. THEY IMMEDIATELY ASKED THE PERSON DRIVING TO REMOVE THE BOARDS AND PROMPTLY GOT ALL THE REPAIRS DONE.

  66. on 31 Jul, 2008 at 09:58 AM Chirag Karia

I too am a victim of TATA. I am fighting with them by raising issues to various authorities since last 10 months. Not only the dealers but the whole customer care department is working against customers. They all togatther will ruin the goodwill of Sir Ratan Tata. Let us hope at some point of time Sir Ratan Tata will come to know all these. I have filed a consumer complain in consumer court. I advise you too to file a complain.

I am too a victim of unprofessionalism of TATA as also its Dealer. My longstanding trust in TATA crumbled when my repeated complaint about delivery of adefective [accidented] car by its dealer were not addressed. I wrote letter to even the Chairman, Mr. Ratan Tata, but received no reply. Well, I hope he and other as TATA realise sooner than later that their arrogance would result in loss of customers. I have vouched not to buy any TATA Car infuture and have been advising same to my friends.

Mr Pravin should file a legal case, win and prove the product wrong if it is really so. Then post an article with the actual facts. Tatas have made India proud and one should remeber it and should not try to defame others when his/her vested (political) interests are not met.

    Hello Sir
Thank you for sharing your experience. I am very sorry to hear about ur issue. I was Planning to buy a SAFARI but after reading your Issue and especially the response that was given to ur issue i am defnetly not buying it. I love driving and its my passion.I am not very rich in buying this Velicle and Keeping it at home. When we buy a vehicle its a relation we bring home and not just a thing. So people just imagine yourself in Mr PRAVIN's shoes and see what he might have gone thru

    Dear Sir,

Apart from all the observations above, i would recommend a wheel Alignment & check of proper Air Pressure in Tyres. I had this problem in a Corsa long back.

I would like to narrate the entire incident so that you can relate the level of harassment and economic loss that we have undergone since we decided to purchase your water purif
