I have own a Mahindra Scorpio 2.6 SLX CRDe 2007.  I test drove Innova, Safari, Tuscon and Scorpio before deciding to buy this vehicle.  I am satisfied with the Value for money i got.

The handling of the car is surprising good. The steering is very responsive. Pickup is surprising for a first time SUV driver. The VAS with reminders about handbrake, reserve fuel, seatbelts etc is really good. Follow me home headlights, footboard lights and in cabin lighting are some features that are good. Vehicle Handling is better than Safari, Sumo and equivalent.

I get 13.50 KMpl fuel economy in city driving. I have obtained 14.50 to 15 Kmpl on highways. This is good considering a 2.5L engine and power that you get with it. The controls are excellent and handy. AC is never a problem.

The seats are little stiff and not true submarine. seats need improvements. The car is bumpy on uneven roads even with the new 5 link rear suspension though smoother than the old version.

A seven seater with Aisle type 2-2-3 seating will do a world of good to the scorpio. The rattling in the middle row is a problem.

What with the bull bars fitted, The traffic does not dare to come close to my car.

    Dear Prabhakar,

I agree with most of your review. Except your seem to go overhead on road handling part and fuel efficiency. How do you manager such high fuel efficiency? Is the 2007 engine any different than the 2006 one that i own. anyway thank for the review that i mostly agree.

i have been driving a scorpio 2006 for almost 1 and half year,
it's fairly trouble free but my milage per month exceeds about 4000 Kms..
hence it does turn out to be a a high maintenance car..
fuel efficiency is not too great at 12.5 Kmpl, (mostly on a flowing traffic road and not in the congested city traffic) with turbojet or similar premium diesel.
would be keen to know how can one get a claimed 16 kmpl of fuel efficiency...

    Dear Mr.Aniruddha,

    Thanks for the comments.

I have consistently obtained 14.5+ KMPL during my trips on highways. I have taken care with the following:

    Speed 70-80kmph.
Minimum use of clutch during driving.
    Engine care in every service.
Use of accelerator judiciously. press and relieve for regular durations during the drive.

I do agree with your incity flowing traffic mileage of 12.50 KMPL. However, the mileage will slightly improve if the speed of flow is around 40kmph.Prabhaka

i like it's shape very much but i am afraid of turning at high speed it could be dangerous for suv cars and if it not what speed could be safe and that made me still thinking will i buy it or buy the new lancer it has the same price if any one can help me take my decision in Egypt here there is the new 2000 cc petrol one (gehan)

    Hi Gehan,

I have experienced safe turnings on a highway at cruising speeds. However, if the turns are on a Z bends /hairpin bends then a safe speed could be 30-40Kmph. The middle and rear passengers will experience a throw. Surprisingly, i have noted that the more passengers the scorpio is loaded, the smoother the ride is and lesser the throw at bends to the middle and rear passengers. The scorpio has to be fully loaded for really enjoyable ride. Any less passenger load is not good.

    Hi Ram!
It is now more than a year two months that i am driving SCORPIO. Scorpio is nowhere near INNOVA in driving comfort. The throw in second and rear seats in Scorpio is problematic if not fully loaded with passengers. Except for this, Scorpio is KING OF THE ROAD. Innova is more of a luxury taxi (I feel). Behind a wheel on Scorpio you will look a Proud owner and not a 5 star driver. Scorpio's road presence is unmatched. Go Scorpio for personal pride and best value for money.

I recently took out my scorpio-SLX Crde 2007 for a long drive covering over 3000kms of highways, winding ghat roads and bye lanes. Though my scorpio is over 16 months old, my opinion about the vehicle is same adoes not change. Its not only the pride, but the attitude of the owner / driver that changes with the scorpio ownership. The notorious Auto wallahs and two wheelers in city traffic keep away, unlike other cars where they look to touch either the front or rear just to tease you.

I am planning to buy 2004 Scorpio (SLX). Is it sensible to buy such a old SUV, will I run into higher maintainence cost. The car ahs done 60000 kms however no major repairs / work is done. It is still maintained as a new car. Should I go for it and what should be the buying price.

Thanks in advance for your inputs.

    Dear Tushar,
Firstly i suggest you get the vehicle at a good mechanic. The 2004 version has a TDI engine and not CRDe. The suspensions are leaf springs and not multi link. You should be very satisfied with the compression and pickup before you buy. The older versions are known to have problems with Clutch Assembly and Power steering. If the engine has the power, vechicle is well maintained, then you can go for it. A price of approx 3.0 Lakhs should be ok based on vehicle condition.
