Pros : Good Fuel Econ, Small car easy city drive
Cons : Horrible interiors totally cramped, no legroom in rear seat. Bad plastic interiors

The car is value for money for ones who want to be economical. I bought the car when fuel econ and low price was my criteria. A very good choice in this segment.


Although in 2004 we did not have the option of the Indica Xeta which is a more spacious vehicle and better to drive.


Styling and comfort scores zero but on maintenance and economy it scores the highest in the segment. Bet no other car can dare to beat the numbers.


Pick-up drops while the AC is on which I later got fitted from Maruti. Not a very stable car at speeds above 110 kmph although I dared till 134 kmph on the delhi chandigarh highway. Fuel econ is 20 with AC on highway if driven at 70-80 kmph and in Mumbai city drive it is 12 with AC.


Finally it is a great car to start off with and upgrade to a premium hatch or a sedan. Its been more than 2 years now and I have decided not to sell it off being my first love.

    Very informative review! however, i believe the reviewer's Alto purchase was in the year 2004 (from the review). Since then, Maruti has spruced up all their models to keep with the growing competition, so i would advise readers to visit the nearest Maruti Showroom to get a real-time opinion and also take a test drive. Al in all, the Alto isa great and time-tested car and GREAT value for money.

    Alto Std is a wonderful car, for it,s sheer economy. i am driving it for the last 5 years. No probs so far. Great Mileage. I get about 20Km/Lt in delhi traffic. In 2004 we didnt have many choices as we have now. I m actualy thinking of selling it if i get good value. Happy driving..
