I would say that Maruti has done everyone in and must be laughing all the way to the bank. I sold my lovely Esteem for this piece of junk! The interiors are tacky, tyres are thin (screeching at corners) the suspension is very hard, as is the gear box...shifting from 5th to 4th is tedious at high speeds. For 5 lakhs, the VXI could have done much better. I have always been a Maruti person (6 cars in all) but I stop here. Maruti has lost a valuable fan. Shameful day for the company.

    Absolute crap man. Are you really driving a swift or you are not a driver. Its a sporty car man...if you do not know how to drive a sporty car its no fun driving swift. Just put to 2nd gear and push it hard till it the rpm is just below red...I challenge you will see no cars around you they will be almost 500 mtrs back. Compfort control and braking is superb. Steering is very very steady. One thing is in swift you are the fuel not the chauffer.

    don't know what you are driving, but sure as hell it's not the maruti swift.
    FYI, esteem and swift don't even compare. Swift is superior in every respect.

    I have been driving a swift for over a yera now..gives me 15-16KMPL in city, better than the esteem...its very sporty and the suspension is superior than than others in its class very stable @ high speeds i am talking 130K+ as well ..not sure why r u getting such bad performance.....gera box was a problem in early cars all's sorted out now ...this is definetily a great car from Maruti.

    I hate it when a person who hates maruti comes in a writes a review as if they were a maruti fan. This OP has just flamed Swift just because he is a Hyundai person or something. Tires are thin? Are you kidding me? It is 14 inches with tubeless. Shifting is tedious? It has astromesh sir. No way it can be tedious. Be honest when writing a review. If you haven't even drive the car, dont even write about it. This review is a complete waste of time and solves no purpose.

    THIS IS TOOOOOOOOO STUPID. the person seems 2 be a crap. i've been drivin my swift since 5 months and find no car upto its comparison in this class. it is simply superb.hey man, first learn to write a review. this car is the best 4rm maruti ever(critics verdict). other cars in this class like " u-va,getz and palio " r far behind the swift in most respects

    Hi,
    I think he is actuallt right, I went to test drive swift desire and swift. swift has really bad suspension, I felt I was in some cheap car!And i never liked the funny looks.But i read good reveiws and went for a test drive.the zen estilo is much better than the so- called hyped up swift. n im not a maruti hater, im now considering sx4 but again after eading all the reviews feel it wont be good for traffic.is the magnum optra good? anything like the baleno?

    Dear all,

    Am revisiting this site after long. Have kept the swift since I posted the original review in 2006. I wud like to change some points and add others:
    Pros:
    1. The car is lovely to handle at high speeds
    2. The klunky gear shift started behaving after two services
    3. Great for parking in small spaces - good manouveribility
    Cons:
    1.The front is too low - I got a bad dent in the front because the car is so low and hit the kerb
    2. Too many blind spots 3. Thin sheet metal used

    I am also a victim of hurriedly purchasing Swift. The only good point about the car is that it behaves well at high speeds but other features are really bad, specially the visibility, gear shift, and poor quality interiors.

    Ambrish, you mention that you were a victim of hurriedly purchasing the Swift. Remember, my friend...everything depends on the emotional sense you are at when purchasing...or for that matter, selling anything. I was at a low, so painted wverything in the same negative brush. The Swift does have many redeeming qualities. Get yourself a good audio system for starters and mag wheels. Things will feel a lot more ddifferent. Hoep this helps. Sumit

    Sharav, you may also wish to try the Diesel version. Jacob, I went through some negatives with the car as my first post would suggest - the car takes some time to 'break' in esp with the gear shift which is atro mesh. In a couple of months, you will feel better, once the car becomes an extension of yourself. Wish you well.

    hi i dont know why some guys are hellbent on panning and criticizing the swift i changed my oh so precious the original zen lxi model for a swift lxi, except for the inital hiccups after two services the car has shown amazing results 15 kms in city traffic, it all depends on handling and care, the interiors are nice and comfy though i do feel for the price at least front power windows and rear wiper ought to have been given a la zen lxi ,plastic used is tacky but on the whole a great driving ex

    I agree with you about the tacky plastic and the absence of rear wipers, etc. If you're not emotional abt your purchase, you will also notice poor visibility at the rear, blind spots in the front and very low front bumpers which makes parking at kerbs a *****!

    Could have given better value for money for the price...

    Why doesnt anyone talk about the high resale value of swift Diesel. Its as easy as carrying cash in ur pocket. Any unsatisfied buyer can sell that car at almost the same purchase price.. do all agree with this?

    This is second year since i brought Swift Diesel and so far clocked 16000 KM, absolutely no issues and very stable and sturdy car, I think its simply superb. One need to think hard find some cons. Fabulous car.

    Its just an awesome car.. nothin much!!Its comfortable,grt pickup...The controls are really good..No problem faced from 1.5 years..Its the best in that class..Nothin can be compared with it:)Have a great ride... go for it without second tot.

    I had heard that Tatas are known for diesel engines,and maruti is known for it's 0 maintainence
    Please let me if it is wise to put my hard earned money in Vista or swift.

    Hi Aditya and Nikhil. While the Swift vxi is god, I would suggest the Swift Desire Diesel. I just went from Mumbai to Uttarakhand (Gangotri) and back - amazing car, great when the turbo kicks in, good leg space for front and rear passengers, great fuel economy of 17 km/litre and no hiccups whatsoever, not even a flat tire!! My money would definitely be on this car. Great bang for the buck!

    I owned a maruti mh410 model for more than 10 years and sold recently. Its awesome performance, good mileage, speeds up to 155km/hr, went on all terrains. So now I am planning to buy a car with good legroom (Since I am 6 feet), pickup and comfortable for long drives; which I used to go frequently. (Monthly 2000 kms approx). I drove Swift VDI, LDI, Ford Ikon petrol; VDI power is amazing on hills and plains. Good Pickup, but drawback is Braking. It’s not so good as Ikon / Zen in hills, ve

    If you are looking at the Swift Diesel, I would ask you to extend your budget and opt for the Swift Dezire Diesel model. I went from Mumbai to Uttarakhand, all the way to the himalayas and back on 8 days without a single hitch. The car gives excellent mileage and the back seat can comfortably accomodate 3 persons with ample leg room. Think about it.

    Sumit, it is interesting to see the way how your opinion about the Swift has changed over the posts. I hope you realize now what the Swift is!

    Still waiting for an equal challenger in this segment (and i bet the Swift beats some of the higher segment cars while starting from a red signal stop line... he he)

    While I agree that my posts have changed gradually over time, I still maintain that there are inherent problems in the Swift, its like a situation of marrying someone, realising that there is not much common ground but both parties making adjustments... Maruti should have mulled over the negatives of this car which really speaking after all the R&D resources that the company has, should have been ironed out to make life a bit easier for us guys like blind corners n a tacky suspension.
