i ve had the duo now for 25 months
i ve run the car for 29000 kms and all self driven single handedly.
The verdict
Do not buy.
If you want to buy a car that you need to retain for a long period of time and not want to junk your hard earned money on some stupid maruti engineers who have taken some italian lpg lit and tried to mate it with a japanese petrol engine with out knowing shit about lpg or petrol engines. Then go ahead and junk all that money.
I ve had other cars ranging from the 800 to the scorpio but i tell you this duo is the greatest con job in town. The car is a good car if you do 20 km a day. But you dont pay the price of a vxi for a standard trim level lxi duo to do 20 kms a day. 18000 kms a year is the number of kms yo need to run the duo to make the purchase of the duo any financial sense. They cant even make their own diesel engines. How can you trust then with something like lpg.
The service stations dont even know what maintenance needs to be done with respect to the lpg kit. What needs to changed checked and cleaned periodically.
The air filter has blown itself up many times now. And every time maruti replaces them under warranty. Suddenly there are huge explosions in the engine and then the ignitors are replaced under warranty. And then they say that there is no problem with the design of the lpg kit. The fact is that there is a huge design issue with the air filter. The filter is made of cheap plastic. Every time the engine back fires (common with lpg vehicles or on lpg mode or that is what the regional manager service says mr basant kumar patil, bangalore) the air filter explodes and lets the engine suck in dirt particles that get sucked in to the ignition chambers and damage your engine for good.
My service history is perfect. Never have missed or delayed a service.
So what does maruti do
Changes all spares till your warranty expires and then you are doomed. U pay thro your nose. And please do not forget the bore the pistons in your engine have anyway taken a beating by the time your warranty expires.
Serious advice
Do not run your duo on lpg if you want the car to give you good service. Since you have already paid for it now and want to realise your investment. If the car is not yours i.e. company car. Use it on lpg and junk it later. If you can afford to sell it now , do it.
Sell it wash your hands off.
If anybody from maruti is reading this 'get in the ring with me' is my offer. Biting my ear will be your only option.
