I own Fiat Linea Fire Emotion Pack but I find it difficult to use in the city because of its big size.

Thus, thought of purchasing a Punto petrol for city driving.
Test drove both 1.2 and 1.4 petrol.
The top end performance of 1.4 was good whereas the low end response of 1.2 was good. Being confused, I thought I would rarely cross 3000 rpm mark in city, thus narrowed down my choice to 1.2 Fire active. Features are acceptable for the price at which they come.

Now coming to the car:
I turned on the ignition and the initial impressions were good. It felt silent than even my Linea petrol.
I switched the first gear and the car moved nicely. It was a breeze to drive within the 2000-3000 rpm range. Since my test drive was confined to city driving, I kept the car till 300 rpm. It was very silent.
Then thought for checking out the performance of car on open roads. Took it to an open road and revved each gear (except 5th) to the limit of 5500 rpm. Above 4000 rpm, the roar from the engine was so damn sporty. But the progress above 4000 rpm was not as pleasing as the initial performance.Top speed touched was 125 kmph. Then I said to myself that I need a car for city driving and yes, the punto 1.2 fire did tht job PERFECTLY....I took out my cheque book and booked the 1.2 Fire Exotica Red....At 425000 Rs on road, it is a steal. Waiting for the delivery. It is promised to be after 2 weeks.

Overall, a great car for city driving.

congrats dude!!! yar even i was very much for the 1.2, but now somehow have drifted towards the 1.3 mjd. don't know exactly when my mind changed, but am in a conflict. like you, even i think the 1.2 is a steal at the price. and FIAT have very smartly used exise laws to keep the cost low. their whole strategy is to shock people by quoting this low a price. i thought i wouldn't take the bait for the higher engines and be smart and take the 1.2. but now i'm like, i love this car so much, that woul

contd... that would love to keep it for long and show it off. no point if few years down the line i feel i need to go for another car because the engine lacks grunt or lags behind too much. coz i know this much, that even five years later i would still be in love with its looks. i sigh evry time i look at it. wouldn't it be sad if i regretted my decision of taking a lower engine two years down the line?

    @ Shan
I dont think that we will repent of our decision. Our cities are going to be more congested (thanks to TATA) and i dont feel we will be able to touch 5th gear very often in the city (at night we can....)So, lets just for it. HaPpY MoToRiNg

Actually, you can use 5th gear very much in the city. Like other fiats, Punto 1.2 is also having a bit short gearing. You can drive the Punto 1.2 @ 25 kmph in 5th gear. I will actually help in great fuel efficiency in city like it does on my linea petrol. My linea petrol gives 12 kmpl in city. Punto 1.2 would easily give me 14-15 kmpl in city. Rest details after ownership. Can't wait for it.

    @ nimesh
thats great! If @ 25-30 kmph it easily goes in 5th gear, then its rocking. I have heard 1.2 is too good in initial pick up.

    Thanks for all above reviews.

Carwale Suggests the On road in Mumbai as Rs. 4,61,436
How much do you think the price should be On Road - Mumbai, also considering the various discounts.

Driving in 5th gear at 25 km/hr? Doing that would ruin your transmission and the car would be jerking below 30km/hr. Not a good driving habit at all.

There is nothing like that. The car in 5th gear at 30 kmph doesn't jerk. It infact enhances the fuel efficiency. The punto has loads of low end torque.

Hello Guys: Any ideas about which Fiat dealer is the best to buy from in Delhi? I guess the dealer is as important as the car company, had a real bad experience with Hyundai dealers in Delhi, so thought would clarify.

Also can anyone tell me what is the milage in city traffic with AC on?

I purchased my Linea from RAMA MOTORS, OKHLA. They are the best. Great staff with a great showroom. Very knowledgable sales executives. Get in touch with MANISH (sales executive) there. He is very good.

    @ Pravin

Yes, I have got the car. The car is doing great. Have had no problems with the car so far. The ride quality is very very good. Since I have not taken the car out of the city, so cannot comment on its highway manners. I am getting a fuel economy of 13.25 kmpl in city with 100% AC. Went to the dealer to get the door handles and outside rear view mirrors painted. Now the cars looks even better. The mileage will increase with time. I am VERY SATISFIED.

  15. on 18 Aug, 2009 at 08:00 PM Nimesh (New Delhi)

    @ Mr.Stgnair

I get 13.5 kmpl in city. You can expect 17 kmpl on the highway at 3000 rpm in 5th gear.

How about the space part of it? A number of reviews say that the back seat is congested. Apart from this how is the power and pick up. Does it feel peppy like the swift?

Dear nimesh, This car is good rather i am also contemplating to buy between siwft , fabia and Punto(active). The only shortcoming or disadvantge in punto for me is the space. i am 5,10". My hair touch with the roof. won't it look bad if i bend my face or neck whenever i drive ? Moreover, same with rear seat.Wt will happen if some friend or relative of mine, who is around 6 ft sit at the back seat. I m confused.

Guys, I when i first saw fiat Punto i fall in love with it. But later a read some where that it 1.2 gives mileage of only 10 km. in city. This is not a very good milage. Thereafter I planned to buy Hundai i10 but today i read in reviews that i10 has great electronic power staring problems. that is very dangerous. Now the only option left is Maruti Astar but the space !!!! Now I am very much confused. I read here that punto 1.2 petrol gives a city milage of 13 km. that is a little encouraging

  22. on 22 Sep, 2009 at 09:33 AM Santosh (Bijapur)

Ya shyam, what a coincidence, i also faced same problem, whe i saw it first i decided to take it, but when i saw the review abt mileage i decided to take i10, now bit confused, Punto executive is telling 11 Km/ltr, and people are telling 13 km/ltr Whome to believe now guys any body tell me exact figure of city & Highway
