I waited for this car for more than a year and prayed for Fiat to get it's pricing right.
Ant thank god - they seem to have heard me. The Fiat flagship car which has stormed the Europe is finally in India with the right pricing.

Lets discover the little baby pint by pint

Engine (Diesel one)
The most tested engine on the Indian roads- installed in 7 cars. Fuel efficient with the racy pickup to zoom ahead at the lights. Just right mix of power and efficiency. High torque at 1750 rpm gives you all the power to race ahead of the biggies.

Ride
Whatever one might say, but the weight of a European car always feels more comforting than the light Korean and Japanese counterparts. This is very much a Fiat with the weight and coziness to tuck you in. Solid suspension insulates you from the outside world.

Safety
ABS and Air bags to make you feel safe on the road with the added weight of  fat rubber and alloy wheels.

Comfort
I always thought of things in the car which I would like to have - Climate control, Audi controls on steering, fat alloy wheels. This little baby has all that. Comes with a Blaunpunkt system with 6 speakers.

Blue and Me
Technology only available in BMW to take calls while driving in here in this car.

All in all for 6.11 lacs. Beats the competition hands down - Skoda Fabia , i20 , Honda Jazz - this is the best value proposition.

I am the first person to book this car in Gurgaon - booked in without even a test ride. Waited for a year for a good solid hatchback with diesel and fun.

It has excellent front seats but the rear seats are cramped. They have gone for a huge boot but is not great on the interior space. Also the headroom on the rear seat is inadequate for tall men - which is also a problem for Linea.

All in all, a middle class guy's sports car with loads of equipment and fun to drive maintaining fuel efficiency. 6.25 lacs is definitely expensive for a hatchback but then Grand Punto has all the things that I ever wanted in my car - and definitely more than my neighbor’s long sedan

Can you see its reverse gear lamp? Just 1 side that too very low level. It can break in traffic, any 2-wheeler can break. Tail lamp cluster is big, there should be both sides reverse gear lamps within tail lamp cluster.

Hi Darshp, Good review and you are absolutely right. Welcome to the Punto family.
I am also the first person in thane who book the car on the very first day.
I booked 1.3 Multijet emotion pack. Which color u booked.I am confused about color so not yet decided the color.

I am interested in 1.2 FIRE Petrol Engine option. I drive less, just 15 km in a day. Please suggest, will petrol engine be a good option too?

I enquired on Fiat Toll free. FE for 1.2l petrol is 14.3, 1.4 petrol is 13.8 and 1.3 diesel is 19.2 test conditions. I think this is a good FE.

Saurabh, don't know about you but i hardly drive my car in the reverse gear except for reversing so that lamp is the last thing i'm worried about.Plus I can always have a mundo outside the car helping me reverse out. I would say Punto matches a good american car in it's features. Does it have a cruise control? That would be awesome.

Darshp, seems like you were sold from the word go. Great review. Blue and Me and steering controls for the audio.. That's a big step for the indian auto market at that price range. And if it's mileage is as Vinayak point out (19.2 for diesel)ooooh it's a clear winner. waiting for more comments when you have your baby.

Can we have a more accurate picture or are we expecting a coupe model as well ?

  11. on 23 Jun, 2009 at 05:34 PM Sneha Kapoor (Bathinda)

I hope it beats my boyfriend's Getz diesel. Smart car for the young. Can't wait to own one.

Amol - my color is white. It is a soothing color which lasts out well and is also proven to be the safest.
the red one looks the most eye catchy at the moment.

  13. on 23 Jun, 2009 at 08:29 PM Darshp (Gurgaon)

Vinayak - Punto Diesal shares it's engine with Swift diesal - which is known to be a real frugal car with 18kpl on diesal. Mileage is an absolute strength with this diesal engine

  14. on 23 Jun, 2009 at 08:34 PM Darshp (Gurgaon)

Sneha - Getz diesal is like a rocket off the block but completely lacks necessary safety features like ABS.
Punto is more balanced and you feel much more safe on the road burning the rubber off.
This car runs as a coupe in Europe and is slightly longer at 4.10 metres. But no coupe out here.
You seem to be quite an auto fan sitting out in Bathinda which also happens to be my hometown.

Aman - whenever you are coming this side of the globe - please do let me know.
    Punto will be all yours

hey Guys.. Heard the test review in a website says 14 km for DIesel Active 1.3 .. Its too low. I am cnfused whether to go for Ritz LDi or Visa Quadrajet or GP .. All share same engine and Fiat doesnt claim any mileage officially and no one has give actual mileage after they got the car .
Pls let me know which one to buy Indica Vista is lowest in Price and GP is highest and GP has reduced its length compared to Euro Model .Test drove GP but didnt feel the turbo like Ritz but look wise its best

Well my question is anyone reviewed the interior?

I was highly dis-appointed by the interiors of Lenea.

  21. on 27 Jun, 2009 at 02:50 PM Darshp (Gurgaon)

The interiors are fine but not great.
The steering is awesome and so is the gear knob, but the quick localisation shows at some parts in the car.
The main pain with Punto is the rear legroom . I am a 6 footer and when i pull my seat behind - only a toddler can sit comfortable behind -there is no legroom let.
It would have been very wise to remove a couple of inches from the boot into the main cabin of the car.

Just saw that AUTOCAR - July'09 is running a cover article on Fiat GranD Punto. Something you people might want to check out.. Please write up some interesting facts if you come across some.

  25. on 28 Jun, 2009 at 04:06 AM Sneha Kapoor (Bathinda)

Booked mine - White color too. Too bad we won't have delivery until July 7th.
I wonder if ABS would spoil the fun out of drifting. Getz drifts like a wild pony.
As of now.. i just wait.

How do you guys compare i20 with former?

  27. on 01 Jul, 2009 at 07:32 PM Nitten Chaturrvaydi (New Delhi)

May be the turbo lag was due to the weight of the car as GP is 1200kg whereas ritz is only 1075kg.

    Dear Darshap
What is the FE ofdiesal version 1.3 emotion pack

  33. on 19 Aug, 2009 at 06:17 PM Rupesh

I own a Palio SDX that has almost same specs as Punto 1.3. I am quite happy with the performance and features. Fully loaded Palio (Diesel) comes at 5.25. Palio has an edge over Punto in terms of interiors. Believe me you wont feel like sitting in a Sedan. Worth consider that as well.

  34. on 19 Aug, 2009 at 06:18 PM Rupesh

Sorry, in the previous comment please read Sedan as hatchback.

  35. on 20 Aug, 2009 at 12:07 PM Manish

The Punto and the Linea from the outside look very neat. However the interiors are quiet disapointing. It seems that the interiors have been done by TATA. The diesel engine from Fiat is a sure bet.
Go for exterior looks, safety features, host of features like Blue & me, etc.
The interior fit and finish is disapointing.

Though I am not an expert on drifting but with ABS & EBD the rotary movement of the tires under hard braking should be a downer for drifting enthusiasts...

  36. on 01 Sep, 2009 at 05:32 PM Chinky

    Guys,

I m confused. I am sold on Punto - and my own car is being sold today. But should I buy a Diesel emotion pack or a Petrol EMotion Pack? One school of thought says that since I have to drive only 20-25 kms a day, Petrol is the best - but some say Diesel is also as good with such short distances. I need to book the car tomo - so will you pl. advise? Thank you!!
