    I was looking for an SUV within 10 Laks range, took test drive on Bolero, Scorpio mHawk, Scorpio CRDe n Tata Safari and finally on Sumo Grande n decided to go ahead with Sumo Grande.

I think Tata's marketing geeks are useless like anything, otherwise how dare they gave the 'Sumo' tag to such a good looking vechicle.

'Grande Black' is looking gr8, has got all the looks for an SUV, vechicle is a solid stuff, n whn u ride it u will feel u r ruling the road.

Its very spacious, clutch is smooth, but gears r not that smooth which is the normal behaviour in Indian SUV's, smooth even in uneven roads, breaks r pretty good, AC is good, uniform distribution in all the 3 rows, the roof mounted AC vents can be adjusted 360 degrees in any direction, very easy to handle, turning radius is very less, interiors are good for the money we pay, good music system, interiors are sound proof, engine sounds gr8, doors are of good quality.

Some issues i have noticed are Grills are made of cheap looking plastics, as they have taken care the rest all parts they have taken care this too. The rear suspension is same as sumo's rear suspension which is parabolic plates.

But as a whole vechile is far far better than Scorpio mHawk Vix which is the top end in that class(Such a crap vechile i haven't seen, not even driver can sit properly, i think 3rd is meant for kids, bcz only kids can enter into that, being bigger in size than Grande it shuld be more spacious, AC is not at all good, Split AC vents are made of cheap plastic, n i think tht is fixed for just a show bcz it is useless.bumby ride in uneven roads n for all these crap features they charge you 11.5 laks.)

    Hi,
    I agree to your remarks on Scorpio Mhawk. I had taken a test ride 2 days back and i was really upset at the cheap interiors and the poor gear quality. I wonder why they charged 2 lakh extra comparing to 2.6 version. The latest version is a total waste. I feel Safari is far better.

    I have seen the Sumo Grande in advertisments, and i wonder the quality of the vehicle. By the look of it i feel it will be a great success and will give Scorpio a run for its money and value.

    I would agree with Nikhil here.. what a shame that they have still named it SUMO... it is much ..much... beter thing... could have easily given it a better name...

    I agree : TATA could have given this SUV some other name.. by attaching the "Sumo"-tag to it, a lot of people will be put off.. My kids were also cheesed off when told them that i was thinking of going in for a " Sumo".. i had to show them the pics and explain the differences and good points of the Grande to them before they were convinced !!

    i agree with the scorpio remark. i got rid of mine recently(2006 crde turbo). it most certainly did have rather hot looks but fm the inside it was really cheap and a very bumpy ride. the engine used to make so much noise on a speed above 100 that you literally couldnt listen to the person sitting next to you. honestly though, v indians hv not seen good suv's yet. i hope tatas wil give us something for a good price aftr acqrng land rover/jaguar now. nano... well i hope it replaces the autoriksha

    The Grande's brand managers should be saked. Mr. Rata Tata... Even I was also reluctant to even look at this option because of SUMO name. When told about it, my wife asked me if I wanted to drive a TAXI !!!

    Seen the brochure, looks a great vihicle.
    But will drive a SUMO ? The itself thaought pull me back.

    i would like to know whether the interiors of EX and GX model are the same ..... are they both beige ?? ..... the looks are extremely good .... but i hear that the roof integrated AC is useless ... Is that true ??

    What's in a name? I disapprove of people disliking the vehicle just because of the Sumo tag? It is the best car in the segment. Lookswise, Costwise, Sizewise and Comfortwise, it beats Scorpio any day. I was given mixed reviews on Tavera. Innova too highly priced. Believe me inspite of its huge size its easy to drive even in the city of Mumbai even in dense traffic. I m buying the friendly beast next week and I am gonna be proud of it. All my 3 testdrives were satisfactory. Recomm.for 8+ family
