When I bought this car, I was proud to buy an Indian SUV - the reviews said it was reliable and most people stayed away from it on the road.  While that part of the reviews is what i also experienced, but I had a bunch of other problems.

1. The workman ship is pretty bad - in the first few months itself, several little things went wrong with it. For now,  it drives OK but intial breaking period was pretty bad. For something that cost 10 lacs to put on the road, I was expecting much better

2. The service coupons are a scam. When they sell you the car, they say the service is covered. What is covered is just INR 550 - my first service cost me nearly INR 3000.  The second one, they said I was a month late so the coupon "Lapsed" - what a royal scam.

3. It seems to really guzzle fuel. In about 6 months of use and 10,000 kms, I spend close to INR 40000 !

4. The dealership (I bought the car in Hyderabad - Punjakutta) sucks big time. They charged me for accessories that they did not install and till today have not refunded my money.  The check is still in the mail

5. Safety Hazard - this reason alone should strike it from being a family car.  If the car is parked (engine off) and it is in 1st gear and you turn the ignition without touching the clutch, the car lurches (expected) and the engine turns on (major major surprise).  I had an accident in my neighbourhood, when the car started like that, started moving and ran into my neighbours parked cars (cost me over INR 10000 in liability plus a huge dent in my one car!).  There are several times where in a parked car my kids would reach over and start the car - imagine the damage you could do with this ? I took it to the dealar and they said that all Scorpios do that !  I think this car should be taken off the road just because of this.  Remember the time the Audi had a extra lurch when it went from Drive to Park ?  This is way worse than that.

As soon as my lease expires, I plan to sell the car and get something more safe and reliable.

    Dude,

If you have common sense, you shld put your car's handbrakes whenever u park it.

Just bcos of a stupidity, dun blame the company. They have crafted a masterpiece. I am a proud Scorpio owner and I have covered more than 14,000 KMS without any problems. The vehicle is absolutely wonderful and I love it.

i am really surprised that your car moved forward when u turned on the ignition while it was parked in 1st gear. rather it should have moved back...LOL!!!!

I thought responsible folks frequented this site and not people that make personal attacks. Anyways, the car does the same even if the handbrake is on. The accident that happened in my case was because someone that did not know how to drive turned on the ignition. If you have kids old enough to turn on the key it can easily happen.

Who leaves the keys in ignition with the engine switched off (taking out the argument that the AC is on) and no parking brake, when you have kids in the back?

No prizes for the right answer.

I like Shreesh's comments. Its genunine. Well my friend if you do what you do then it will happen what happened. :-). Even my Chevy did the same once & I dont blame them. All the best bro take care & dont park/keep on 1st gear next time.

@Vivek - appreciate that - I am 10K poorer and wiser. I had to unlearn an old habit of always leaving the car in first gear with handbrake on. I now leave it in neutral :-)

Hey Shreesh, fyi I just bought a brand new Scorpio. The latest SLe variant. Well have had loads of quality issues but I arm-twisted the dealer into getting them all fixed. Anyway long story short this time the SUV does not charge fwd in 1st gear if ignition's turned on by mistake. Lastly, I bought this baby only because I couldnt afford a Misubishi. Hence I am trying very very hard to ignore the quality issues. And I am sure by now you have mastered the art yourself. :-) Bye & am from Cal btw.
