This is my 2nd review on Spark, after a good enough use of Spark (Over 6800 kms.).

HOW I FEEL: The car is very good, in fact the best in the segment (better than Estilo, WagonR, Santro) in terms of looks and comfort. I have driven over 6800 kms. and I am very happy with my choice. As far as looks are concern Spark is the best in presently available cars (Looks: Purely Personal though!). It gives immense pleasure too while I drive the Spark. Even though it looks small, it has comfortable space for 4, and can fit 5 people without being too uncomfortable. For driver and and front seat, SPARK GIVES A FEEL OF CLASSY BIG CAR, Plastic quality is really very good and Its center mounted Speedometer looks great and usually found in high-end cars like NISSAN, Audi etc… Maruti is also using this center mounted speedometer in its upcoming car. So, if anyone will say that its uncomfortable, I will say No, Its Not!! It took only one day to get use to the speedometer and with this position everyone in the car can see on which speed car is running (Not very good for young boys.. mom can keep an eye on you.. how fast u r running boy!! lolz)

ENGINE: Spark has 1.0L engine which outputs 63bhp of power and 90 Nm of torque. Since SPARK's engine is well tested & successfully running everywhere in the world with different brands, It gives piece of mind. The engine is super silent & in idle position it produce Zero Vibration that is amazing to see. The car felt quite stable on high speed of over 130 kmph as I drove at that speed for sometime on Lucknow-Bareilly Highway. I feel at that speed SPARK is better than WAGON-R & SANTRO. SLOW SPEED... Well anyone can drive it on 3rd gear @20kmph only, No jerks, no noise... infact Even if you are driving it on 5th gear and reduce the speed to 20 kmph, car doesn't stop and u wont feel any kinda jerk. I tested it completely.

SUSPENSION: It has gas filled suspension, first in its class and I feel the difference between SPARK & WAGON-R & SANTRO (We've used both Santro & Wagon-r for quite a long time so I can compare them to Spark). In spak I feel that its suspension quality is much -much closer to big Cars, Sedans... Riding Quality???Riding quality surpasses Santro & Wagon-r. I haven't feeling any Sound while running on rough roads which I usually felt while I was driving wagon-r and also there is no vibration in Steering Wheel which anyone will felt in the steering wheel of Santro, though Santro is a bit zippy than Spark. But Suspension? Santro has a Very bad rear suspension.

MILEAGE: THE MOST FUEL EFFIECIENT CITY CAR!!!! thats what I can say, I am getting Minimum 15.55 now, (Before 1st service minimum mileage was 13.80kmpl) and Maximum 17.40 kmpl in Lucknow City (WITHOUT A.C. Coz its Winters). Depends on driving conditions but I would like to say THAT FROM WAGON-R & SANTRO I HAVEN'T GOT OVER 13kmpl A SINGLE TIME. So, as far as mileage is concern there is no comparision, I am getting over 15.5 all the time.

SPACE INSIDE: As I mentioned earlier it has very good space for 4 like santro and wagon-r but 5 can sit without being too uncomfortable. They have used inner space very well, small places here n there, for glasses, cigarette case, for bottles. The feel is there while driving Spark. Boot Space is small but I dont think it really matters most with city cars, almost same you will get in every car. I have bought LT (Top Model) and with Folding Seats option I carried luggage on rear seat too while we were only 3 on highway journey.

NEGATIVES: As far as my opinion is concern, I would say I got everything which one can expect from a small city car. Tubeless tyres and all and mainly the price which I paid, I am more than Satisfied with Spark.
The Paint of Front Door inner handle is not upto the mark coz its a bit off now, I made a complaint and they said come to service centre we will see and replace it, no problem sir, so I hope they will replace it.
Dealer Network is other issue with G.M. Since service network is limited it might be difficult for someone if he stuck in some village area. At this point Maruti wins all the way BUT I dont think one use City car often on highways. And I also heard that G.M is increasing its service network. Though G.M is having service centre in every known and famous city, so no problem for those who belongs to city which is having G.M. Service centre. Since I will use Spark very rarely for Highway Journey, this is not a problem for me.

SO, IN THE END I CAN SAY ITS A VERY GOOD CAR TO GO FOR, IF YOU DONT TRUST BLIENDLY ON MARUTI & HYUNDAI, JUST TAKE A TEST RIDE AND THEN TAKE YOUR DECISION, AM SURE ONCE YOU DRIVE THE CAR YOU WILL FEEL THE DIFFERENCE IF YOU HAVE DROVE SANTRO & WAGON-R EARLIER. IN ITS SEGMENT SPARK IS THE BEST CAR.

  2. on 21 Feb, 2008 at 03:58 PM Rajiv Parashar (Lucknow)

well this depends on driving conditions, if engine is not showing over heat in the meter than u can drive as long as possible. I drove non-stop 260 kms. Wats the mileage u r getting in city?

  3. on 21 Feb, 2008 at 05:44 PM Binoymehra

    Dear Rajiv
Brilliant review ,Iam a proud owner of Chevrolet U-VA and i fully agree with you with regard to GM vehicles, they are extremely good,

My wife has an maruthi 800 and iam planning to buy a spark , this review was very helpful to me since i was concerned about Spark mileage, i was under the impression that it gives only 10 with AC within city, So alto had come in my mind due to the mileage factor, Just would like to know if i can go ahead with Spark, sivananthan1976@gmail.com, Rgds

    Dear Sir
Other than service centres the major concern is the milage. I surved a few owners some says it is around 12-13 without AC in Delhi conditions. Only one person told me it is around 15. I doubt wherther he was a sponsered person. Company also claim 12-13 km/l. Is there any devise through which one can be demonstrated in optimum conditions i.e changing gear at certain intervel, running at 20 km/h like that? If it is possible it will help a purchaser to feel setisfied.

  6. on 06 Mar, 2008 at 05:42 PM Rajiv Parashar (Lucknow)

Mr. Bansal, Mileage? Mileage is not a problam in Spark, infact it depends on Driving style and Driving conditions! I am getting in between 15 to 17 kmpl without ac in city. And with ac it should be around 13-14 in city.
Mileage of wagon-r in same conditions n same driver ... me .. was 11.25 to 11.70 with ac.
    Santro.... 12 kmpl with ac.
    Indica DLG ... 15kmpl
Fiesta Diesel... 17.7o kmpl without ac.

i10 is also giving max. 12 in same conditions and that too without ac.

    Mr rajiv,
could u tell as to how do you calculate mileage? please tell us important driving tips also because of which you are getting such wonderful mileage.

  8. on 15 Mar, 2008 at 02:04 PM Rajiv Parashar (Lucknow)

To calculate mileage is One Tank full to Another tank full, check the odometer reading and divide the fuel filled in.

Try to drive your car on 4th & 5th gear as maximum as possible. That doesn't means use 5th gear on 20kmph speed. Smoothly change gear to 4th n 5th when you feel car is on good enough speed. I put 4th gear over 30's speed all the time, Depends on driving conditions too, Less use of Clutch & Break, Maximum mileage you will get.

    Hi Rajiv,
Its correct. I purchased 6 months back spark LS and very much satisfied on the performance and every thing is positive 4 this vehicle Except for Gear Box which would have been refined. Gear shift is not that smooth as santro.

Pl intimate whether Spark has power steering? And what is the exact function of power steering?

  12. on 23 Apr, 2008 at 03:58 PM Rajiv Parashar (Lucknow)

Mr. Bansal Spark is having Power Steering, and as far as power steering's function is concern it is a system for reducing the steering effort on cars. Most power steering systems work by using a belt-driven pump to provide hydraulic pressure to the system. This hydraulic pressure is generated by a rotary vane pump which is driven by the vehicle's engine. As the speed of the engine increases, the pressure in the hydraulic fluid also increases, hence a relief valve is incorporated into the system

Mileage is dependent completely on one's driving style. City traffic which pushes you to stop and go in short distances. The reason rajeev is able to drive hi car in third gear and rev it up to higher peed without changing gear and therefore aving fuel is simply becaue most of these cars are deigned to deliver a flat torque of a RMP band width, which reduces teh need to shift gear often in teh city. BY teh way mot cars tdy have this benefit

  14. on 24 Jun, 2008 at 06:47 PM Rajiv Parashar (Lucknow)

But with Spark I am getting ATLEAST 2 kms. extra per litre.. which Does Matters!!! in every tank full I am running 70-80 extra kms. Its fine... Mileage matters alot cuz u can buy any car any day but its the fuel... u have to go to the Petrol Pump regularly n rising fuel prices.... well every km count! Ride & Handling is superb.. n to me most imp. part is comfort for family at rear.. n without any doubt .... Spark is the best car as far as comfort is concern.

Hi Rajiv, I have zeroed in on Spark along with estilo. But I heard from 3 users of spark that their odometers had issues within one month of usage. did you had such problems?

  17. on 12 Jul, 2008 at 02:50 PM Rajiv Parashar (Lucknow)

Yeah, you are right but they replaced the meter free of cost, actually somehow they received a big lot of faulty meters, which they replaced and even my meter is also replaced. This is not a big issue.

  19. on 21 Jul, 2008 at 09:01 AM Rajiv Parashar (Lucknow)

Mr. Mukesh, with current prices, Spark is the best option in small segment, 2.66 well its starting price, depends on ur budget, I suggest you to pick the best model u can afford. PS, LS or LT, as per your budget. Contact GM dealer for prices n feel free to ask if you want to know anything about any car.

I want good mileage around 15+ on long route.

  21. on 06 Aug, 2008 at 03:08 PM Rajiv Parashar (Lucknow)

Mr.Sumeet, I am not sure about the mileage of i10 kappa but I am sure about the mileage of Spark n Santro. From Spark you'll definitely get around 16kmpl on highways! thats for sure! Spark is VFM as compare to other cars!

Well, SPark is better den other 2. I've mentioned it in my review n as far as Alto is concern, its a very good entry level car but I dont like to compare Spark with Alto which is 800cc wid only 47 PS. And on the other hand Spark is having 995Cc with 63 PS. No comparision really!

Wat I suggest you to stretch ur budget a little n buy Spark PS, coz in busy city traffic, PS is really necessary.

    Dear Rajivji

Iam particular about mielage, most of the time i may not use ac, requesting you to suggest.

Hello sir ,thanks for such a wonderful review.I am a spark owner too.Its been one week.
    Sir I have some questions.

1.I am from kolkata. And though its been 4-5 days, we are getting a little above 10+KMPL now.The road condition is pretty bad @ kolkata and the traffic so heavy !so have hardly heard anyone getting above 14 in the city.So wld it be rectified after first servicing ?

2.The engine heats up very much after a 20-25 KM drive.is it because its brand new ? no steam/fume at all though.

  26. on 09 Nov, 2008 at 11:17 AM Dr Kiran Joshi (Kolhapur)

I heard that for average height people also, the central console of spark touches and irritates knees? Is it true and trouble some?
My ht. is 5 feet, 8 inches--will it be a problem at drivers sear in spark?
