HOW I FEEL: Presently, The best car in the segment (better than Estilo, WagonR, Santro) in terms of looks(though personal) and comfort. Like other cars of its segment, it has comfortable space for 4, and can fit 5 people without being too uncomfortable. Feel of the car is very good, like big cars. Plastic quality is really very good and Its center mounted Speedometer looks great and usually found in high-end cars like Nissan, Audi etc… You can see the same in new Indica Vista.. why? Because its good!!! So, if anyone will say that its uncomfortable, I will say No, Its Not!! It took only one day to get use to the speedometer and with this position everyone in the car can see on which speed car is running.


 


ENGINE: Spark has 1.0L engine which outputs 63bhp of power and 90 Nm of torque. Spark's engine is well tested & successfully running everywhere in the world. The engine is super silent & in idle position it produce Zero Vibration. The car felt quite stable on high speed of over 130 kmph as I drove at that speed for sometime on Lucknow-Bareilly Highway. I feel at that speed Spark is better than Wagon-R & Santro. Slow Speed... Well anyone can drive it on 3rd gear @20kmph only, No jerks, no noise... infact Even if you are driving it on 5th gear and reduce the speed to 20 kmph, car doesn't stop and u wont feel any kinda jerk. I tested it completely.


 


SUSPENSION: It has gas filled suspension, first in its class and I feel the difference between Spark & Wagon-r/Santro (We've used both Santro & Wagon-r for quite a long time so I can compare them to Spark). In spark I feel that its suspension quality is much -much closer to big Cars, Sedans... Riding Quality???Riding quality surpasses Santro & Wagon-r.


 



MILEAGE: Spark is the best fuel efficient car after Alto. I am getting around 14kmpl with 100% a.c. on now, (Before 1st service minimum mileage was 13.80kmpl) and Maximum I counted was 17.40 kmpl without a.c. I was not expecting such mileage from Spark. Even so many are getting over 19kmpl (Dont really know how?) Though Mileage Depends on driving conditions but I would like to say the Actual city mileage of Santro & Wagon-r with a.c. in city driving condition is around 12kmpl only (Tank full to tank full method) So, as far as mileage is concern there is no comparision, Spark is definitely better.


 



SPACE INSIDE: As I mentioned earlier it has very good space for 4 like santro and wagon-r but 5 can sit without being too uncomfortable. They have used inner space very well, small places here n there, for glasses, cigarette case, for bottles. The feel is there while driving Spark. Boot Space is small but I dont think it really matters most with city cars, almost same you will get in every car. I have bought LT (Top Model) and with Folding Seats option I carried luggage on rear seat too while we were only 3 on highway journey.


 


NEGATIVES: As far as my opinion is concern, I would say I got everything which one can expect from a small city car. Tubeless tyres and all and mainly the price which I paid, I am more than Satisfied with Spark.


 



Dealer Network is other issue with G.M. Since service network is limited it might be difficult for someone if he stuck in some village area. Though G.M is having service centre in every known and famous city, so no problem for those who belongs to city which is having G.M. Service centre because Quality of service they are providint is too good. G.M. is very aggressive these days and in next couple of years you will find so many service points of G.M. here n there.


 


So, in the end I can say, Spark is very good car to go for. Just take a test drive and then take your decision, am sure once you drive the car, you will feel the difference between Spark & other small cars.


 


Few suspect that Maintenance of Spark will be high, I would like to tell you... Maintenance is not high As far as parts prices are concern, Important Parts are cheaper than Maruti and Hyundai. Also Chevrolet Promise is there 12999/- anything above in 3 years? GM will refund! So, I know the upper limit of maintenance atleast. Presently, Cashless ownership offer is available, buy Spark with Cashless Ownership Offer and no need to spend a single rupee on servicing for next 3 years. 


 


I have rated it 5 star means Excellent because after using Spark, I feel Spark is an Excellent car. If you like Spark than take a test Drive and check all the points.

    Ifully agree with you in all aspects and even i have faced problem in delivery and my dealer promised delivery on 7th november but delivered on 16th after much pressure from my side and instead of black PS delivered icy blue PS.But a great car and no no nonsense city car

    Yes!! Its a great car....Thats why I made up my mind for black. After running more than 1000 kms. I can say that my decision of choosing spark is the best decision. I dont know why some people (who are from hyundai or maruti i guess..:)) are not accpeting that Spark is one of the best city car. I hope you are also getting good average from your car just like me. I am getting 14 with a.c. and atleast 3 proud owners of spark told me that they are getting around 20 on highways.

    hi! before the discount offered by GM, I was getting Spark LS (with front 2 power windows) @3.68 lacs, on the other hand i10 with front 2 power windows costs here in lucknow 4.14 lacs.
    There is a huge price difference, i like only interiors of i10 but u have to think if u can spend some more money for interiors coz engine is the same engine of Santro.

    Spark, well I will alwasys choose spark coz in my opinion Spark is the best city car in every aspect, Very smooth, very silent n peppy engine

    Spark is an excellent car. But right now delivery is main issue. I have booked the car on Oct 12 and still the dealer is giving an exact date of delivery.

    Hi , I bought Spark mint Green LS Model , the car is amazing , its very silent , great pick up , cute looks + GM Brand, its a lovely car , any one would fall in love with it once you drive it, its sheer pleasure, its better than the shape less wagon r and the stupid hyundai santro whic is unnesessarily expensive...if buying a good small car then go in for Spark just ingnore 110 , estillo ( Very Bad) so on....

    i think i10 is too expensive, 5 lacs n more for a hatchback?? why not sedan like Logan? just for interiors ?? atleast i will not spend 5 lacs for a hatchback. Sedan... a different class. City car... Spark is too good.

    Dear Vijay, you are facing same problem, i suggest you to ask your dealer when he will deliver u ls model. Force him to deliver the car at the earliest. One of my fren got LS model in only weeks time so its upto u to tackle ur dealer. What I can say, Spark is such a nice car!

In addition,(i)No seat adjustment to go with adjustable steering wheel (j)Head rests are not adjustable (k)bottle holder provided just below the gear lever (l)No internal latch release (m)Biege interiors gets dirty very quicklly (n)Grond clearance is 165mm as against for spark 170mm (o)On bad roads its choppy as well (p)Overall rating given for both vehicles is 8 out of 10 (q) fuel economy is same for i10 lower model & Spark

    Dear Vijay Kumar, Mr. Karl Slym,new MD of GM had indicated in Times of India 15th Nov'07 (Bangalore edition) that he is expecting to 'deliver all the sparks booked over a period of next two months'. Telegaon facility in Maharashtra is expected to produce 1.45 Lakhs of units per annum shortly. I feel it is worth the wait. I have also booked during the offer period. I have been promised delivery during 3rd week of Jan 2008. I prefer this, as I get new year model. You can also expect the same.

    I have booked spark Base Model on 25th Oct.
    I got delevery on 7th Of November I booked Black One.
    But because of shortage of stock they given me Red One.

    Red is the best option if you are getting confuse with the colour. I have completed more than 2000Kms. Just Say that Spark is Owsam.

Here in my city i10's magna (With Front 2 Power Windows only) costs 413999/- ONLY and SPARKS TOP MODEL ANYONE CAN GET PRESENTLY @ 3.89 LACS. FULLY LOADED AND SPARK LT BEATS i10 IN FEATURES, A TOP MODEL IS A TOP MODEL, FOR INTERIORS ONLY I WILL NOT PAY EXTRA 25K AND PICK A CAR WITH LESS FEATURES WHEN I HAVE A OPTION TO PICK A TOP MODEL, I Picked and am happy.mileage 15.18to 17.40 in city widout a.c. n city is lucknow.

    If anyone will spend 5 lacs does its worthy to go for a SMALL CAR? My mind is set and if i have to pick and my budget is around 5 lacs, I will pick SEDAN, Upper Segment & Upper Class!!!

    Better Space, Better Drive, Better comfort, Better Class.

    So, if any car is over priced its i10 otherwise interiors are good, car is good from front but old santro from back.

    I will pick santro if my need is small car n from hyundai only.

    I would say go and drive ur options urself. For me Spark scores above all ur options (Alto, xeta, Santro & Wagon-r) with heavy margin.

    Wagon r drives well but looses on looks and mileage. Body is also not very strong. I have very bad experience.

    estilo - Same as wagon-r, drive:ok, looks: down (Its personal thing.. but to me... lady look.)

    santro: Looks good, a.c. is ok, mileage is poor, maintenance heavy.

    xeta: My brother is driving xeta GLG, but he will not recommend it to anyone

    First time I searched carwale, mouthshut & other sites when we were thinking to go for a sedan, after comparing every available option and User reviews of every option, as per our budget & requirement we choosed Fiesta and after 7 months of purchase I can say we bought the right car!

    Osram you are saying I am comparing Spark with Santro & wagon-r this is not good then can you tell me when anyone wants to go for a city car how many options available for him?

    If budget is low then 1. maruti 800 2. Alto (He can pick one as per his budget) & if budget is okey then 1. Santro, 2. wagon-r, 3. Indica xeta, 4. Spark & 5. i10 And I guess i10 is costly if someone wants more features.
    I was driving Wagon-r lxi Dec.2006 model(sold now) & still my partner is driving Santro XO 2006. I drove these 2 cars and my review is my feedback, Now I bought Spark & I compared it with these 2 cars b4 going 4 a new car and after comparing options i choose Spark.

    Now as i have crossed over 5700 kms. i can add little bit in my review. The Car Spark is doing alto better then my expectations I am getting very good mileage 17.32 last in lucknow city without A.C. ..winters!! I checked it at slow speed of even 15 on 3rd gear and cars performance is fantastic at that speed with no knocking or jerks, anyone can check, my review is my experience only. Highspeed? Reached max.140 on highways n car was absolutely stable, yes little drum noise but thats fine.

AVAILABLE AND THAT TOO SAVE COUPLE OF THOUSANDS NO NEED TO GO FOR EXTENDED WARRANTY OF ANY TYPE. 1 LACS WARRANTY IS THE FIRST IN THIS SEGMENT AND NICE MOVE BY G.M. I CONSIDERED IT ALOT BEFORE PURCHASING SPARK IT SHOWS THEY HAVE CONFIDENCE ON THIS PRODUCT! SERVICE? AM FROM LUCKNOW AND SERVICE CENTRE IS HERE!!

    I am also a proud owner of Spark Lt. I bought it in last Oct with the DASARA offer. Rajiv's experience and mine almost match. I have driven around 3800 kms in city and on highways. In city I am getting 16-17 kmpl (without AC) and on highways its 20 kmpl(without AC) and 17-18 (with ac). The performance is really superb. Road grip and handling is fantastic. Absolutely silent engine. In 3rd gear we can drive comfortably @ 15-20 kmph, the most suitable speed in traffic. I really enjoy driving it.

    I too bought a Spark PS during the Dasara festive offer and it was delivered in Jan 3rd week. My experience is similar to Rajiv's up until the first service. First service is still pending for my car. Performance of Spark is superb with good mileage around 13 kmpl with AC (before the frist service). I read MR.GURKANWAL SINGH's review and was shocked to see the number of views and votes for review based on test drive. Obviously rigged and it's on reviews home page, pity!!

    Spark gives a milage of 12.2 and Alto gives milage of 13.6 in city condition.On highway Spark goes 16.5 km and Alto 18.3 kmpl.I suggest you go for Alto or I10 both award winners

    I agree with Ajit Das ,this review is favouring Spark unduly.It is also speaking of competing models in very poor light to misguide people.I have test driven Santro and Spark and bought Santro.Santro is bigger,more spacious and easy to drive. Unlike written by Mr Rajiv,it is very solid , 854 kg weight as compared to 840 kg of Spark.Santro has better pick up also.

    @ Deepak, Warranty of 1 lac kms or 3 yrs is very effective coz u will get peace of mind, generally no car gives problem before 3 years but still only GM is offering such warranty in small segment.     Hi Users of Spark,I m planning2buy Spark in next two weeks.I've cmpared all the cars of dis segment,but the price of 349000 for spark and that too with multiple good features is making my mind for Spark.I can still change my decision & go 4 Santro,but upon checking Santro's new versions GL & GLS,I found that Hyundai has removed almost all the features that they were providing wid SantroXO.I actualy don't like the shape of Wagon R, it looks more of an ambulance.Plz suggest me guys.Im in dilemma

    @ Sunil. You can buy Spark. Dont worry I am using this littly chevy and i more than satisfied with the performance of Spark. I used Santro, Wagon-r & now using Spark. All d cars r good but Spark is better in Ride Quality, suspensions & mileage. The Peformance of Spark is too good. Feel free to ask anything about Spark, Santro & Wagon-r.

    Sunil,Take a test drive of all cars in contention and see for youself the difference.Spark has the shape and size of a small car but its engine is suited for high speed highway driving.As a result,it has very poor low speed torque and therefore it feels very weak in city use esp with ac.Another car you must bring into picture is the I10.It has the best of all attributes

    Thanks for ur compliment Osram! I drove my cars mainly in city so i dont think i have to learn these things from anyone. Spark is very zippy n best pickup, mai usually 2nd, 3rd gear may he uthata hu, n my family is more comfortable at rear seats of spark. Petrol prices r increasing all d time n 1.5 kms to 2 kms. does matters alot, means 60-70kmpl extra in every full tank. Does Matters! I guess Osram u havent took a test ride of Spark, anyways... I am happy with Spark which matters most!

    100 to 0: Spark is best in class (Important too in case of emergency braking, even a ft. count n spark stops few meters b4 other cars of its segment.)

    Test drive was taken by me and I want to purchase but in my view the price of Spark is slightly high incomparison to other cars in this segment. Spark's sale will further increase if its prices should be little less than the prices the company is showing at this stage and further no maintainence scheme should remain continue to beat other cars in the same segment.     i10 is too expensive for the features one is getting. Compare the price difference between Spark's Top Model n i10's top model. You will feel d difference. Spark is VFM (Value for money) now.

    Everyone is free to say anything, if u dont like Spark den its fine... no probs.. its ur money .. its upto u to decide which car is good for you n which one u can afford. But comparision of an Entry level car wid only 47ps power with a Car like Spark which is having 63ps power n wid lot of goodies...     I have done a research on small cars and I feel Spark will at best get 3 marks.Wgan R,Alto,Zen and Santro get 4 each and I10 gets 5.I also feel that Rajiv has artificially raised his marks for Spark in this review.

    Mr. Luxman, U researched? I used and I tested, comparision is just above, kindly tell me from which angle Spark is less than Other cars of its segment? Atleast increase knowledge of this CAR BUFF :) Use even Carwale's tool COMPARE CARS :) And I am using Spark n Used Santro n Wagon-r earliar. And who said Santro n wagon-r or estilo .. a bad car? I said Spark is far more comfortable for me n specially for my family at rear .. which is most important for me atleast.

    Hi Friends !!

    I bought a Spark LT about two and a half month back.

    Now after driving over 2000 kms in city and highway, i can comment some on spark.

    IN MY VIEW, Spark is much faster than any of the small cars whether it be alto, wagonR, santro, i10 anyone. Pick up is good but AC takes away some power and when i went for service i also got to know that GENERALY they are having some problem with AC and power. Although the AC individually is very effective.

    Very silent car. No noise at all. No noise from engine.

    Though I am reading a lot of big mileage claims but but i am not getting over 12 kmpl. may be it will improve after the second service.

    interiors are very good and the feel from inside is very good or outside styling is also contemporary.

    i found i10 and wagonR better in ride quality and effectiveness of power steering. suspension is not at all good in spark. power steering both the other cars is much more easier.

    one more problem that i found in spark and is very critical is the view blockage on sides due to positioning of A and B pillars. when taking turns or crossing roads side view blockage is a very big problem.

    in my view we can not compare it with alto atleast. WagonR, Santro and i10 can be compared but everyone of these have some advantages and disadvantages. none is perfect. if your preference is mileage, overall low cost of ownership, space, good service network ---- go for wagon R

    but if you are looking for a driver's cars, a good pick up, very good styling, easy city driving, and value for money city car that does better than others of the same slot on the highways too ---- go for Spark. its really zippy. you will love this small cutie.

    as far as i10 is considered its far more overly priced. very bad interiors (quality), ok driving, a good suspension and power steering. a very good space, good outside styling, good service network.

    but if you can spend about Rs. 5 lac on an i10 ----- better UPGRADE to Swift or Aveo Uva, these are much more better than an i10. Or a ford icon can be a good choice for Driver's car lovers @ 4.5 lac ex - showroom.

    But this all depends on PERSONAL PRIORTIES and PRFERENCES. ONLY YOU knows best which one is a better choice for you. This decision depends on a very huge matrix of preferences and conditions and choices.

    As far as my experiance with my Spark, I am very much satisfied by it. A very good and contemporary car to own. You will love its driving. I do not find any problems in pick up at lower speeds also whatever these official figures might suggest. i get a very good pick up and my spark is much faster in city traffic also. and reasonably better than WagonRs or Santros at highways. Though I miss a better suspension, power steering, space and AC of my father's WagonR. but i do not care much for these

    1. WHOLE LOT OF SPEEDOMETER WAS FAULTY, BUT THEY REPLACED FAULTY METERS FREE OF COST. EVEN MY TOO!

    2. MY CAR'S INNER DOOR HANDLE IS ALMOST BLACK NOW, I GUESS THEY MISSED PRIMER B4 PAINTING.

    3. DIFFICULTY IN APPLYING REVERSE GEAR, I REPORTED N THEY FIXED IT AT 1000 KMS. CHECK B4 DAT I USE TO APPLY 1ST AGAIN N DEN REVERSE 3 OUT OF 10 TIMES I FACED SUCH PROBLEM BUT NOT AN ISSUE, AND NOW GEAR SYSTEM IS "PERFECT" BETTER DEN WAGON-R'S.

    Yesterday's (7th July) TOI came up with a price tag of 2.6 for the base model of Spark. However, the base model does not come with a power steering which i believe is essential for city roads. I need to know the ex factory price of the power steering version of Spark. What's this i'm hearing abt Spark's suspension? I hate Wagon R cause of it's poor suspension and heavy maintenance. The last thing i need is the same problem with Spark. Some unbaised opinions please!!??

    And btw, i've been driving my Wagon R(LXI) for the last 5 years and everything else is great about it apart from the Suspension and heavy maintenance. Thats probably got a lot to do with the Kolkata roads but then any car i buy has to deal with the same.

    Mr. Girish, Spark will be better in small cars but luggage space is better in Wagon R if you r looking for. Also, if you are considering WagonR and can wait for some time ....... Maruti Splash is coming..... a new car, more or less an upgrade of WagonR.

    Otherwise, try for Swift (value for money car and a MARUTI name) or Ikon (A driver's car). Or Aveo-UVA is also kool.

    I wrote my remarks on 9/6/2008 after taking test drive of SPARK and also suggested to reduce prices of the car little bit for better sale of the car. Now prices have been reduced and see the rush at Chever Outlets, I was sitting in one of the showroom to book car, at that time I see that Spark PS was out of stock which I actually want to purchase, So I was left with no option
    only to book Spark LS. Thank to Chever for reducing prices and I further suggest that prices should be same further.

    Alto is good on mileage, but its a 3 litre engine and it costs around 3.22 lakhs onroad. Spark 1.0 LS is a four cylinder engined ar which costs around 3.50 lakh on road - gives you good refinement and good mileage, with goodies like internal adjustable rear view mirrors, power windows, excellent noise insulation, parcel tray etc. Spark LS is a good value for money product. I dont think any other car in india matches its value for money points.

    Despite its small engine,Alto is actually faster than Spark in 20 to 80 in gear acceleration due to the fact that peak torque in Spark comes at a very high engine speed.As such Alto does not lose to Spark in engine response.

    Spark LT is a very good bargain - very good value for money at the the offer price.

    Technically speaking the engine is much more refined, quiet and fuel efficient than any other car in this segment including the i10.

    In looks, I find it better than all small cars available in India.

    I don't know why people blindly go for Maruti(s) and now Hyundai(s). Promote competetion, only that is going to help!

    hi raj, Plz check in ur frenz for best GM dealer in delhi, U can go 4 anti rust as its rainy season coz am not sure dey r doing anti rust at plant or not. Yes paying 10k extra is piece of mind.
    Color ur personal choice, I like white though I bought Black LT.

    Mr. Girish, my personal thinking, Teflon coating is not worthy. Anti rust is good if you want to keep your car for long period. I am not sure that GM is doing anti rust at plants or not? I will surely enquire and let you know.

    Girish, I dont think such paint is available, Now I am having same kinda scratches on both the front doors, Service centre buddy for denting & painting. First, one biker scratched my left door, den a Brick thrashed at d left door, one grand vitara was overtaking n somehow vitara's tyre wnt up to dat brick in such angle dat brick just hits left door like a rocket, my car was over 50 man, dent .. n on rite door at red light. one biker just scratched while coming backward to avoid challan.

    Am looking for a VFM car and think that the Spark will hit the spot.However, am a bit worried on the GM service part.
    Don't really want to spend on the i10 as it is expensive at the moment.
    Will probably wait till Maruti launches the A-star(new Alto) and then take the plunge.Expected to be between 3-4 lacs ex-showroom and debuts in October which is a month away.

    Have narrowed down my choice to Spark/i10/A-star

    Hi mohit, well i have no idea whether mint green is availale or not? check with ur dealer. Mohit I used 800, Wagon-r & Santro earliar but I am very happy with performance of spark.

    I favour it more here at carwale coz generally people use to say that its from gm so maintenance will be high, which is not the case and also Spark is better than other cars in ride & handling, suspension, features & Mileage.. than why not spark? just because its Chevrolet from General Motors? ..world's top co.?

    mint green is no more available as it was the launch color, GM has a policy of discontinuing the launch color as its a privilage for early buyers and that color wont appear in future. remember arizona amber with aveo and uva is also out not. so there is no fun waiting for mint green.
    secondly i agree with rajiv that spark is very easy on pocket as far as maintenance is concerned. in last eight months i have spent only 650 on my spark.........

    I got a aspark delivered few days back. Huge difference observed in Pick up with and without A/C. Without A/C the Pickup was really awesome. After slowing for a speedbraker, vehicle would pick up in 3rd gear, But with A/C, I felt I was driving a Indica Diesel vehicle, had to push accelerator to max to achieve pickup, . Is this Normal? I have not driven an A/C vehicle before. Why was difference not observed while test driving.

    First of all, congratulations for your new car! Definitely you will feel difference in pick up with & without a.c., with a.c. if you are under 20kmph den shift to 2nd gear instead of 3rd gear.

    One can feel the differene in pick up with & without a.c., test drive other cars you will feel same difference.

    Poor Cooling??? lol, I would like to say only one line ...Aaja meri gaadi may baith ja, aaja meri gaadi may baith ja... you will feel the cooling, most of the time 2 but these days I am using a.c. on 1 only. Am from Lucknow n temperature in summers upto 48degrees. A.c. is very good. Auto switch off tab hota hai jab initial pick-up lete hain n for seconds only... not each time.I guess when u tested you were driving spark with jerks n too much use of clutch .. A.C. is fantastic.

    The problem of poor cooling in Spark is linked to the poor low speed torque in its engine.Its engine gives peak torque only at a very high speed of 4200 rpm.Therefore,it has very poor pulling power at slow speeds.As such,its ac is a big drag on its power at slow speed.To overcome this,they have introduced auto cut off for the a.c. each time you try to pick up speed.This means ac is mostly off in bumper to bumper driving in metros.

And this is funny if a kid is laughing, I know every car is haivng Pros & Cons, but tell the cons na... why u r all the time saying Peak torque comes at 4200 rpm, how often Peak torque require? Pulling power should be good for city use and Spark is very good. I suggest you to please go through CARWALE's road test of Spark to know little bit better about Spark. Every Spark user is satisfied thats what really matters!

    Third gear of Spark is very weak,see in gear acceleration figures in the Autocar magazine.Even Alto is faster than Spark.Slow speed pick up is poor.AC is bad.Seats are cheap looking and non supportive.Rear seats are very small,and leg room/head room are small.Boot space is very small.Console is centre mounted.

    You are correct in your assessment of the negative points of Spark.I just wish to add the aspect of poor repairs and servicing angle.GM service centres are far few in number and are very poorly managed.They are also expensive.I spend rs 250 on servicing my SX4 as compared to 1200 by Rajiv and others for Spark.

    My thoughts about disadvantages:

    1. Its spacious inside but If you are over 6 feet, Spark is not good for you, take a test drive and check whether you r comfortable or not? Wagon-r is better for tall people.

    Steering: well, its not to that extent, last time I tried upto 130kmph and car was very stable, Test drive!

    MIleage: I am getting 14kmpl in city with a.c. (I was getting 12kmpl only from wagon-r & santro, so mileage is better than these 2 cars atleast.)

    Tsang, First of all nothing to do with other cars I own/use, we are discussing here about Spark.

    I use to visit Himachal Pradesh on regular basis (every year)and there I saw so many 800/Alto with 796CC engine and 37/47 Ps of power only and with 59Nm/62Nm of torque only. My simple question is If these cars can run on hills smoothly than why cant SPark with 995cc engine, 63PS of power & 90Nm of torque?

    Correct me if I am wrong...!

    Maruti 800 is best car in hills.It has low weight and it gets very good pulling power in the engine.You can drive only at slow speed because of the road and traffic.I used to wonder why 800 is so good in hills when I saw some body gave a link to engine speed and peak torque .I then checked,M800 has peak torque at a very slow 2500 rpm.This is the speed at which which we drive .Spark peak torque at 4200 rpm.In hill you do not get chance to speed up engine .You test drive Spark in hill.

    If you want your car to be peppy to take care of overtaking or the slopes,go for Santro.I test drove Santro,Spark and Zen Estilo.Spark is the slowest.Estilo is good but I did not like its shape.That left me with Santro and I am very happy with it.

    Good to see that Rajiv has modified his review very substantially removing the sad stories about the cars from the competetion.I had objected to this many months back and it is a good home coming.
    Bad to see that Rajiv is carrying grudge against me for having pointed out such mistakes earlier and that my name is appearing in the list of credits by Rajiv in his last para of the review.
    My suggestion to Rajiv is do not fall in love with Spark,for love is blind and being blind is not a virtue.

    Nipun, Spark pehli small car nahi hai jo mai chala raha hu, aur yeh ek achchi car hai yeh 1 saal may prove kar diya isne, har cheez achchi hai car may, boot space is less though, not good for over 6ft. tall because car is not tall, front leg space is 1022mm n wagon-r is having 985mm only, means its comfortable, har quality maine mentioned kar di, abhi tum aao kuch bhi comment karo aru chale jao this is just not possible coz am 100% sure what I am writing here is the correct info about Spark.

    Fuel economy for Spark in city is 12 kmpl and for Alto it is 15.9 kmpl.This is given in Overdrive .Overdrive is also saying that there is a problem with ride and handling of Spark but no such issue with Alto.There is such major difference in fuel economy and no difference in size of the two cars.How do you justify the additional cost of Spark then.

    Ride & handling is too good, few cons quality of paint at inner door handles, odometer probs (replced Free of cost), Techometer would be handy, Two-tone interiors .. Spark aur better hoti. 3rd gear? 20 par chalao aur max. mai 90 par gaya 3rd par aur bhi gunjaish thi. I was just testing.

    And one more point, every car is good, no car is bad... crores spend karke thousand say jyada test karke koi bhi car launch ki jati hai, n its upto user to pick one as per his liking and usage keeping in mind service support and priorities. Agar 3 yrs may upgrade karni hai to Resale is also point to consider but I sugggest you to check resale value too using Carwale Tool which is available at homepage of carwale.     My review is my experience, ismay yeh nahi hai ki mujhe looks pasand hai isliye Spark is good, ya jabse spark lauch hui hai usne prove kar diya hai ki achchi car hai isliye aap spark lo. Simply, one can take a test drive and he can be sure that whether spark is underpower? Pick-up is poower? suspension is poor? Ride quality is poor? aircon is poor? Space is good enough or not?

    Yes, I love little chevy! Excellent car!

    If your knee is touching console than dont buy Spark, your tall buy a tall car, Wagon-r is the car for you.

    But Speedometer problem? its only personal, I haven't feel any problem and moreover no such problem in Vista too. This kinda console is availabl ein high end cars and its a new concept for india.

    Suspension quality is too good so no such issue. Gas filled shock absorbers are performing well and Ground clearance is good.

    This is good if you are not satisfied with the spark than wait for A-star. Another option is always good, I am also 5'8" and I am comfortable in Spark and ride & handling is too good. Alto is entry level car and Spark is a better car than Alto. Why not Hyundai i10? I rate it the best compact city car but yeah its lil bit costly, one can get Spark's Top model LT cheaply which is having few more features than i10 magna.

    Another plus with Spark is Mileage, its very good when it comes to mileage I am getting 14+ in city with a.c., Tomorrow my car is booked for Service (just clocked 20,000kms) at Megha motors (new dealership of GM in my city). I will update my review about another paid service and feedback coz this is the first time I will visit Megha Motors.

    Mr. Varadrajan Spark is having decent inner space and they have use inner space well, but if you dont like the car than its your personal views and its better for you to wait for A-star. Front leg room of Spark is 1022mm which is better than wagon-r's 995mm. I use to take leg suppert from panel for comfortable drive. Its very good for long journey. Suspension is also very good and one can feel the difference at rear. Overall, Spark is a very good car. Mileage and power is too good.

    I am driving my Chevy for the last 5days!
    Looks absolutely great. It stands out among Alto, Santro and Swifts in the parking lot. So far I am very happy with my decision.
    Pro: Engine is extremely silent! Sometimes I don't understand whether it is running!

    Con: No body has talked about this here. Distance between Clutch, Break and Accelerator pedals is less than comfortable levels.

    Will add more when I gain more experience.

    Mr. Varadrajan, this is to inform you that I have seen A-star very deeply, This car is a good example of bad space management, anyone can check a-star is noway near Spark/i10/wagon-r/santro & even estilo as far as inner space is concern, Spark is much better than A-star, even I was curious about a-star and receommended so many to wait for the launch of a-star, unfortunately a-star is no way near Spark in space and performance, engine is not as peppy as spark.

    When seen with Spark only!!!! Not bigger in space, even its not as comfortable as Spark. Yeah, maruti service is available here and there but that doesnet means that service of other companies is bad! Even Hyundai is good when it comes to service and here in my city only one GM service centre though but the quality of service is very good and as I mentioned earliar Spark's maintenance is very cheap, even imp. parts are cheaper than Maruti & Hyundai.

    open the door of a-star while engine is on and see the vibrations on door. See yourself!!! Spark's engine is very refined. A-star's rear seats... Very crampy. 7 stars out of 10 in driving and 6 out 10 in interiors and inner space by Autocar India.

    Everything is personal, I cam compromise with couple of kms when I am getting better mileage than Wagon-r & Santro (14kmpl in city with 100% a.c. I am more than satisfied) and what really matters is Comfort level and I feel Spark is more comfortable even at rear.

    Spark LT Optional is even better, what really matters is overall performance, and in performance Spark is too good.

    You simply dont like my review, okey my review is biased and in favour of Spark but what is the use of ur visit again n again all this? its kinda fight u know? And I am not an expert but as a user I can say Spark is very good car and i've already done 21k kms, good enough knowledge I have. And car is trusted even in UK, my fren told me you can see Chevrolet Matiz here n there and its a no problem car. As a user I am very happy with the performance thats what really matters.

    And I received so many calls too for performance of spark and my user experience, even today I recommended it to some Mr. Manoj... So, this is User Review only, you dont like Spark, no probs man so many good cars are available and its personal liking only. But if you will compare it with an Alto, only price is near Alto but Spark is a better car & as good as wagon-r, estilo & santro.

    I have purchased Spark on 07/11/2007, since then its millage is approx 11 km/lit while company say 16. There is no proper solution provided by dealer..just it will increase after 5000 km or 10,000 km etc.
    I think millage problem is the biggset prob. with this car.

    Same reply, Spark is an excellent car, A car with good quality, Great comfort (suspensions), Great performance, Good Mileage & Less maintenance.

    Any technology which is good in performance is always good, buyers can check at the time of Test Drive... and valves, Check out Maruti's new A-star ..engine specification.

    Mileage: Check yesterday 15.7 kmpl without a.c. in city.

I will once again buy a Spark LT optional @4.08 lacs on road with Alloys, Airbag & ABS instead of going for i10 sportz @4.47 lacs ... its my personal opinion coz when I bought Spark, I had one doubt ..Maintenance... but after using it I know Maintenance is not high. Dont u know Chevrolet Matiz (spark) is Britain's most popular car? check it man!

    I dont have any experirience of Spark's performance in hills so no comment but Spark's power is good and sufficient so I dont think Spark's performance is not good in hills. Take a test drive and ask someone who is using Spark in hills.

    Rajiv Parashar has a very low expectation level from the caras a result he gives 5 marks to Spark.In my view Spark will get 3 marks.
    Alto,Wagon R,Zen Estilo Santro will get 4 marks.

    Luxman, I agree to 5 star on i10 but A-star doesnt deserve even 2. styling- look at rear and rear quater view (dont what designers have done while tring to do something on lines of i10 concept). space - where is it only on the outside. new K series engine - so called refinement - spark is much better. Also, considering cost A-star bombs out. 4.5 lac for top model with no space, bad design lines and decent engine. in my opinion wagon r is better but sPark scores for its VFM

    I'm using a 2001 model Zen and was looking to replace it simply for the fear that say 5 years down from now it may be difficult to get spares as the core components reach end of their service life. So far none of the new ones have made me feel like deciding to abandon my old zen. Better options are there but they come with a significant jump in initial cost plus running/maintenance costs. On Spark I have two cons on mind, one boot is no better, two availability of GM Service/spares.

    Yes boot is 170ltrs only but its a compact car. A-star is having very small boot.

    GM's service is really an issue, so if service centre is not available in city, dont buy any gm car. Spares.. well, if service centre is there, spares are not a problem.

    I would like to add, Maintenance is not a problem with Spark, its pretty cheap.

    @ Mr. Roy, frankly speaking i10 is the best compact car then after chevy spark. Its upto your personal preference only. After using Spark LT, I know its a fantastic car and I have no hesitation in recommending Spark to anyone who likes the looks of the Car. And I still love bikes, I am using bikes (Ambition & Fazer) almost regularly at night..though for couple of kms only....and yes I am thinking about FZ-16 now... Yeah I am 36 but still crazy about bikes.

Just because I saw that though Spark is a fantastic car but people are hesitating in recommending Spark just because its from GM, mostly guys are thinking maintenance will be high, GM's position is not good back in US and resale value will be less. I am not sure about the Resale but when I checked online, I found Resale Value is good.

    Cons of Spark? I would say None (As per my need, I got everything required). Yeah boot is less 170 ltrs but not bad coz I have another sedan so boot space was not my requirement but yes LT is having 60:40 folding rear seats and I used it once to carry extra luggage.

    Spark V/s Alto .. One can consider it because of Price Factor only.

    Spark v/s Alto... Performance?? Alto is no way near Spark in Performance. One can get little bit better mileage from the Alto But I am getting 18.6kmpl from Spark with 100% a.c. and the figure is too good.

    Oh yeah, when they were selling Spark LT @4.27 lacs on road (my city price) few were saying its over priced for features & interiors. Now they have reduced the price competitively ... New SPark is coming there GM is selling at a massive discount... hahaha

    Today I visited GM showrom after a long long time coz one of my fren is planning for a compact city car n I suggested Spark, the on road price with all the discounts is 3.59 lacs for LT (including Disc. 35000+10000 exchange bonus) 100% V.F.

Ofcourse you will find Pros here at this Review page coz I am happy with the performance and I am recommending this car to anyone who wants a compact city car in limited budget, Jis price may jo quality aur features spark may mil rahe hain koi aur carmaker nahi de raha, thats what I feel.

    I used Santro & wagon-r thats why after using Spark I feel Spark is a very good car, and genuine alternative of Santro, 22600+ kms done till date, who knows it better than me?

    What is this, rajiv yeh hai, rajiv gm executive hai, rajiv ka biased review hai? funny, GM mere recommend karne say nahi chal rahi, achchi car hai, user hu, recommend karta hu aur recommend karunga if anyone will ask.

    I got e-mail alert after every comment posted and apne time may say kuch time nikaal he leta hu for this review kyunki bahut say mere DOST yahan comment post karte rehte hain, yeh aur baat hai main unki najar may GM executive hu.

    Talk about the car if any1 wants to comment.

    Hi Rajiv, that was a really helpful review.I ws in two minds about Spark vis-a-vis i10 and A-Star.I feel the only car which was ever worth considering in lieu of Spark was the good old Zen.. just one suggestion - I dont think its worth ur precious time to react to ppl with contradicting ideas.You have written what 'YOU' feel and not what GM feels, afterall u r jus a satisfied customer not a GM Sales Rep.And as u said, its upto the potential owners to make their choice..I'm glad i've made mine.

    Raheja, yes u are right, left knee will touch the console, but its upto user, Its benefit too, u can get support for ur knee, very useful for highway journey, easy drive wid left leg is getting support. And road, well, there are very few cars in which u can see the road.

    buy only advance 16valve engine like pc P4 advance than Pii processos . maruti zen/wagon-r has 16valve (4valves per cylender) even spark/i10 n all have old 8/12valves per cylender. benchmark-honda city.vtec has 16valve. more over at 2010 only 16valve engine fit to run like cityZX has 8valves discontinued. don;t buy spark/uva/xink/i10/logan/city.zx/old maruti.800/old gets/maruti dzire petrol/omni/any skoda/xeta/marina etc

    I am a new buyer and confused bet. Spark and WagonR. Though, i haven't driven a car yet , i felt that the driver seat in spark is lower than one in wagonR (i am almost 6 ft. long). Due to this , i have clear view of the front in wagonR but in spark i dont get that view.
    Would you like to comment on this? It will be useful for the new user like me !
    One more thing....The 3yrs. warranty that is offered , comes with extra price or it is included in the car price ??

    Please take a test drive to see whether you are comfortable in Spark or not? Car V/s Car, I will prefer Spark for Looks, Interiors, Mileage, Quality & Comfort. Moreover, Price V/s Features, Spark is VFM.

    Spark is not good in hill roads as it feels very weak at slow engine speed which is needed in slow speed driving.Stick to Santro or I10 or Wagon R .Rajiv Parasher is recommending Spark left right and centre for which he says he does not get any money from GM.I ask you sir,why do you spend so much time and energy on promoting Spark?

    All car companies have modified there cars when there are any changes in the regulations are requirements.

    Some year back MPFI cars were not there and only carburetor engines were manufactured. Since there is new requiremnts in next calender year every one are doing changes and its applicable for car launched in that particular year.I see still lot of old 800,zen etc.
    SPARK on road starts from 2.9L on road.

    Great review. After driving Spark for the last one year, I completely agree with the reviewer. The ride quality is very smooth even after I used it in very bad roads so many times. No noise, vibration etc. Only I feel if it had a more powerful engine. With 5 people inside, with AC on I feel a little dearth of power in highways. Anyway I can't expect more from a car in this price range. If they make available at least an option to take a 1.2 or 1.4 lt engine, that would have been awesome.

    THANKS FOR YOUR REVIEWS, VERY INTERESTING. I USED WAGON R, NOW I AM USING SPARK LS , 4000 KM DRIVEN. 1500 KM ON A HIGH TOUR WHICH INCLUDES HILL STATIONS AS WELL.
    MY EXPERIENCE: NOTHING LIKE SPARK, PERHAPS I WILL NOT SEE SUCH HIGH PERFORMANCE SMALL CAR IN FUTURE. HEADS-OFF TO THE GM. I would suggest you guys to just have a Test Ride, you will feel like a higher segment car ride. Also, the owners of other cars, pls go for a test ride. Thanks.
