to all you guys who wanna buy a car i wud say go and drive ur options urself. Mileage, power and space is similar for all in the segment (near to each other). What ultimately matters is the driving and ownership experience. for me Spark scores above all with heavy margin.

wagon r drives really well but looses on looks.

estilo - mix feelings, drive:ok, looks : down

santro: needs a good makeup badly, i prsonally doubt life of engine

am totally agree with u. but wanna add little more ... Spark is also better as far as average is concern, Warranty of 3 years or 100,000 kms. ..excellent! Maintenance less than 12500 for 3 yrs.. very good.. that means G.M. is having confidence on Spark. we have all the city cars in our group and spark is very good in this segment.

  2. on 25 Nov, 2007 at 01:53 PM Rajiv Parashar (Lucknow)

people here are comparing different segments with spark, well if someone wants sapcious car then choose one between swift, u-va or getz. In city car segment there are Santro, Wagon-R & new zen. Spark is a good choice if someone is going for city car.

  3. on 09 Jan, 2008 at 03:57 PM Nipun Bharti

problem with spark is that it is a city car by size and highway car by its engine character.peak torque comes at very high speed as compared to other cars in segment

  4. on 09 Jan, 2008 at 04:11 PM Deepak

its a right mix for those who cant afford two cars, one for city and othe for highway, however where in city u need peak torque often

  5. on 10 Jan, 2008 at 02:33 PM Nipun Bharti

hyundai i10 is car with better balance for both city and highway driving

  6. on 10 Mar, 2008 at 01:39 PM Prateek

  7. on 11 Mar, 2008 at 08:00 AM Deepak

    hi Prateek,
If you take my suggestion I would ask you to go for spark. Its a much better car than the competition. also it has better interiors, performance, space and looks. I personally own one and much satisfied with it. also there are good offers going on in terms of discount and service. couple of my collegues has also got spark and all are happy about not buing and other.

  8. on 11 Mar, 2008 at 11:57 AM Manmohan Singh (Noida)

I 10 fits your definition very much. You want good looking and good interiors with no fuss ownership. You can not get a better car than I10 for these virtues.Extend your budget a bit and enjoy your drive.

  9. on 11 Mar, 2008 at 03:38 PM Prateek

    thank u deepak n manmohan...
    i ordered for a spark...

manmohan the same features of luxury in i10 wud hv costed 1 lakh more so i opted for spark...

deepak i opted 4 it after reading all the reviews here..hvent driven it yet...
i hope it will b a great experience n nuthing to regret on it....

  10. on 01 Apr, 2008 at 01:40 PM Osram

I have driven Spark it lacks power in slow speed driving with a.c.Needs frequent gear changes

  11. on 23 Apr, 2008 at 05:01 PM Rajiv Parashar (Lucknow)

Hi deepak, I bought LT on Nov. 7th and covered 10000 kms. and 2nd service. What is your experience now? We had Santro & Wagon-r before but now I can say this littly chevy is far better than Santro & Wagon-r as far as Ride Quality and Mileage is concern, driving pleasure is there in Spark. Any problem u faced in spark?? A.C. is also working fine here in lucknow where temp. is over 42.

  12. on 25 Apr, 2008 at 11:19 AM Deepak

Hi Rajiv, I also own LT and has driven abt 3000km till now. Its the peppiest car of the lot. Ya till now even I am not very happy with the milage but considering not even one service has been done, its pretty ok. Also, I was suprised when I touched 130kmph on this car and it was still stable and well under control. I have met a couple of guys who are getting 15kmpl after 2nd service. If I will come to know of anything regarding the milage I will update you.

There are people who will be happy with even a Fiesta Diesel and there are others who will be unhappy with a Merc C class pick up.Spark is for Fiesta Diesel types

  14. on 04 May, 2008 at 11:02 AM Abhijitj Nandy (New Delhi)

i need to get one car but i am really confused on which one to get.It seems Wagon-R is the first choice of many people but i hate the looks..Santro is too common..Spark is offering some discount.i need to get a good resale value also as this one i need to keep only for a couple of years. Can someone please suggest me for the best resale, for more spacious and better mileage which one should i go for among wagon-r,santro or spark....

  15. on 04 May, 2008 at 11:25 AM Abhijitj Nandy (New Delhi)

Deepak i also feel the same as you do about the other models..There are now 70percent chances that i go for a spark.

  16. on 05 May, 2008 at 05:47 PM Luxman

Abhijit why do not you get the advice from carwale web site option of Recommend me a car. if you plan to sell your car in 2 years it is very important to have good resale value.I have seen myself that Maruti and Hyundai have high resale values ,others are not so

  17. on 07 May, 2008 at 08:27 AM Deepak

No offence luxman and Abhijit, but I feel its funny to start thinking about selling the car before even buying it and especially let the decision about the choice get influenced by it. Do you feel that one should really compromise a better car (which one would use for 2-4 yers)just because it might not fetch very good price when you sell it.

  18. on 07 May, 2008 at 12:25 PM Luxman

Resale value to me is a major major factor which directly co relates with strength of the service network and cost of spares and servicing. The customers in seconds market are extremely intelligent and well informed and do not buy second hand cars from companies which are having poor service network and high spares cost. This in turn drives their second hand value down.It becomes a big burden to drive around in such cars that cost a fortune to service and you have to go hundred km for service

  19. on 15 May, 2008 at 04:29 PM Rajiv Parashar (Lucknow)

Yes Deepak, I too believe and I have mentioned this thing in my review too, its really funny to think about resale before buying, I sold my indica and believe me the day was really bad, I was not feeling well when i delivered the keys to that dealer. Am using spark since last 6 months n i love this car, Resale value? see does it matters if one gets 15 to 25k less after 3-4 years? the driving pleasure, comfort & mileage should be first priority before buying car not the resale.

  20. on 15 May, 2008 at 04:33 PM Rajiv Parashar (Lucknow)

Dear Luxman, as far resale is concern I know the bad i will get from Spark after 3-4 years as compare to wagon-r .. well 25k to the max. And we were getting 12kmpl frm Wagon-r and Spark is giving 13-14kmpl means 1 to 2 kmpl extra wid every ltr and driving pleasure... suspension.. too good. I am only 5'8" dats y no probs if car is not tall like wagon-r infact on highways Spark is more stable, you see I went only twice but i reached 140kmph very easily n car was too smooth n very stable.

  21. on 16 May, 2008 at 04:55 PM Osram

I agree with Luxman, resale value is very direct indicator of spares and service cost and reliability of the vehicle. These are very important factors while buying a car

  22. on 18 May, 2008 at 10:22 PM Abhijitj Nandy (New Delhi)

Truely said Osram and Luxman, resale value is a direct indicator of the value the car has possessed in the market. It indicates what maintenance the car needs after sale.Well i should inform Rajiv for his misconception of losing only 25k after 3-4yrs using the car.i will give an example to explain this.A 2005 model of the highest resale possessing Santro is getting sold for a maximum of 2.5lakhs.How much did you invest somewhere around 3.7.The difference is 1.2 lakhs.

  23. on 18 May, 2008 at 10:30 PM Abhijitj Nandy (New Delhi)

Whereas get an Ikon for 5.5lakhs ,2005model for also the same,i.e.,2.5lakhs...here is the difference of 3lakhs..so you are losing 3lakhs here..So here is the point...if one has a plan to get a luxury car in a couple of years time he/she should definitely go for one which has higer resale value which is a clear indication of the low maintenance of the car and good market for the same.No idea about the Spark's resale as its new to market.

  24. on 18 May, 2008 at 10:35 PM Abhijitj Nandy (New Delhi)

I am sorry Rajiv as i think i misunderstood you somewhere...you might have been talking abou the difference in the resale for a wagon r and the spark for 25k.......i guess what i meant should have been clear..its has nothing to do with your comments..Well for Spark we do not yet have a notion as to how the resale would appear in 3-4 years of time..lets hope some good luck in that...I have decided to go for a Santro GLS model finally after lot of research.i will be here to give away my experienc

  25. on 19 May, 2008 at 01:06 PM Osram

I have experienced the impact of resale value recently and you are absolutely right Abhijit.I purchased an Ikon ZXI NXT for 7 lacs 4 years back. The car is excellent . I now want to sell it as I have gone for SX4 I am getting only 1.6 lacs.In similar situation Baleno is selling for 3.2 lacs .Even Accent is better.

  26. on 28 May, 2008 at 06:26 PM Nipun Bharti

Yes indeed,Osram and Abhijit, resale value is very important to me also as it indicates many things about the company, its policies, its technology and servicing strength

  27. on 01 Jun, 2008 at 02:40 PM Rajiv Parashar (Lucknow)

@ Abhijit, I am not wrong and my concept is very clear HOW CAN U COMPARE THE RESALE OF SANTRO WITH THE RESALE OF IKON? IF U WANT TO COMPARE THE RESALE OF THE SANTRO ..2005 MODEL SANTRO DEN COMPARE IT WITH THE 2005 MODEL WAGON-R?

THIS IS NOT FAIR IF U WILL COMPARE THE VALUE OF IKON WITH THE SANTRO, IF IKON THE COMPARE THE VALUE OF IKON N THE VALUE OF ACCENT, N SEE THE DIFFERENCE... HARDLY 30K,N IF IKON'S CONDITION IS BETTER, ONE CAN GET BETTER RESALE AS COMPARE TO ACCENT!

  28. on 01 Jun, 2008 at 02:45 PM Rajiv Parashar (Lucknow)

@OSRAM, WHY U BOUGHT IKON ZXI NXT? THERE R ONLY 5% PASSIONATE BUYERS, THEY WANT POWER, MILEAGE IS NOT A CONCERN FOR THEM, THATS Y IF U WANT TO SOLD UR CAR, U WILL GET LESS BUYERS N LESS RESALE TOO. WHO WANTS TO BUY A CAR WHICH IS DAMN GOOD BUT MILEAGE IS 8-9KMPL? EVEN A 4 YRS OLD ACCENT, 1.6 LACS TO 1.9 LACS..? DIFFERENCE? I HOPE U GOT THE ANSWER. EVEN TODAY WHO WANT TO OWN A PALIO SPORT? MILEAGE AROUND 9 KMPL, HOW MANY CAN AFFORD? THERE R VERY FEW PASSIONATE CAR LOVERS..!

  29. on 02 Jun, 2008 at 12:55 PM Osram

I have seen that there are many reasons for poor resale value.Main ones being after sales servicing cost and facility, quality of the product itself, company policy about discontinuing good, ongoing models like Astra,Corsa,Forester etc to favour their new models

  30. on 06 Jun, 2008 at 07:19 PM Rajiv Parashar (Lucknow)

rAstra, corsa, forester etc.. history.. i can tell maruti's failures too.. but maruti is bad? No!! All i want to say that .. if I want to compare the resale value den I will compare the resale of Same Segment.. its nothin like comparing Ikon n Spark. Ikon .. compare it with Accent.

So, I am sure the resale value of Spark will be definitely good coz car is good and other point .. Now GM is very aggressive, Increasing service support all the time and car is good, resale will b definitely bette

  31. on 10 Jun, 2008 at 08:34 AM Deepak

I agree with you Rajiv. Also, at this point its difficult to say about the resale of the car which has just been launched (an year now). Resale depends upon the service backup (which GM is improving on), cost of spares (spark spares are not coslier than that of competitors) and the overall vehicle along with brand image. So, if somebody wants to play the wait and watch game with spark........please go ahead and buy anything but not the best of the lot (the spark : personal opinion). Cheers.....

  32. on 10 Jun, 2008 at 11:26 AM Tsang

SPARK HAS VERY POOR HILL CLIMBING POWER.I SEE MANY PEOPLE HAVE TO OFF LOAD THEIR SPARK TO CLIMB THE STEEP SLOPE IN FRONT OF MY PLACE.MARUTI CARS ARE BETTER THAT WAY

  33. on 12 Jun, 2008 at 06:34 PM Rajiv Parashar (Lucknow)

When I was thinking about Spark, I saw a review and the guy is using Spark in Shimla and in his review he was telling that this car is very good for hills too. Though I havent checked it on hills but its quite powerful a car and its better in its segment. I am agree with u Deepak, perfect lines.. PLEASE GO AHEAD ANY BUY ANYTHING BUT NOT THE BEST OF THE LOT!

Most comfortable small car, less maintenance, great fuel econonmy n yet Maruti only, Chevrolet is not a small name.
    Cheers!

  34. on 13 Jun, 2008 at 11:07 AM Deepak

with personal experience i can say spark is not less than the competition for drive on slopes. I have taken it from Bangalore to Mysore and than to coorg. if somebody had this trip he migh know what slopes I am talking about. i am very satisfied with the vehicle. And also for torque we can not compare a petrol vehicle to a diesel one. On the way I touched 135-140kmph mark and the car was perfectly stable which is not the case with marutis, even with swift (with factory fitted tube tyres)

  35. on 16 Jun, 2008 at 07:19 PM Srinivas Boy4U (Hyderabad)

hi i am srinivas 24 yrs,i want to buy a car,my budget is 3-4lacs,can anyone suggest me.,as i am new to car world,i have 3 months of experience in car(ALTO) driving.

  36. on 19 Jun, 2008 at 02:47 PM Tsang

ALTO IS VERY PEPPY FOR CITY DRIVING AND IS MOST FUEL EFFICIENT PETROL CAR.IT HAS EXCELLENT RESALE VALUE.SO YOU MAY LIKE TO CONTINUE WITH THIS.IN CASE YOU WISH TO CHANGE,GO FOR HYUNDAI I10 WHICH HAS VERY GOOD QUALITY.

  37. on 19 Jun, 2008 at 03:17 PM Deepak

Alto is a good city car, but here we are discussing about different segment. If someone wants to pitch for entry level, no doubt Alto is the option. As far as i10 is concerned, it has similar engine as that of santro. So you know the performance but the little extra weight of i10 (than santro) is felt with difference in performance. Secondly, spark is more than 60k cheaper for same features.

  38. on 20 Jun, 2008 at 11:20 AM Tsang

ALTO AND SPARK ARE OF SAME SIZE AND THEREFORE COMPARABLE,ALTO IS EQUALLY FAST IN PICK UP IN SPITE OF A SMALLER ENGINE.SANTRO AND I10 ARE BOTH BIGGER CARS THAN SPARK.

  39. on 20 Jun, 2008 at 11:28 AM Deepak

you will change your opinion if you drive them for decent time. spark looks small but due to its design it has much better cabin space, better than zen and santro. Then it rides better than santro, i10 and the competition. alto can never come close to it when performance is concerned. I own both, alto and spark, so know about them

  40. on 20 Jun, 2008 at 03:24 PM Rajiv Parashar (Lucknow)

How can one compare entry level Alto with a car like Spark? no match in engine and PS.. alto is only 47 n the difference is huge even a new driver will feel the difference between alto n spark. No doubt Alto is very good car ..but its entry level n I Cant compare it with Spark. Spark is one step ahead.

  41. on 24 Jun, 2008 at 01:43 PM Tanvir

I HAVE READ A COMMENT BY SOMEONE IN ONE OF THESE REVIEWS THAT ALTO IS ACTUALLY FASTER THAN SPARK IN THE 20 TO 80 IN GEAR ACCELERATION.I HAVE JUST NOW CHECKED IN AUTOCAR MAGAZINE MYSELF AND THIS IS TRUE.THEREFORE SPARK LOSES OUT ON THIS TO ALTO AND THE POWER ADVANTAGE OF SPARK OVER ALO IS PURELY ON PAPER

  42. on 24 Jun, 2008 at 01:50 PM Deepak

Hi Tanvir, I dont know weather you have driven both cars enough to say that. as far as specs on paper is concerned, it might be there due to the fact that spark is heavier. I dont know actual figures but with my exp of drivend alto for 2 years and now Spark, there is no reason to compare them. e.g Octavia RS is much faster than accord, merc c-class and lot other but you cant compare them.

  43. on 24 Jun, 2008 at 02:19 PM Tanvir

C CLASS GIVES YOU TOP END TECHNOLOGY AND GIZMOS WHICH ARE NOT THERE IN SPARK.TECHNOLOGY WISE THERE IS NO DIFFERENTIATOR BETWEEN ALTO AND SPARK.SIZE WISE THERE IS NO DIFFERENTIATOR,AND PERFORMANCE WISE AGAIN THERE IS NO DIFFERENTIATOR.WHY THEN THERE SHOULD BE PRICE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN SPARK AND ALTO

  44. on 24 Jun, 2008 at 03:59 PM Rajiv Parashar (Lucknow)

    COMPARISION:

    LENGTH:SPARK 3495,ALTO 3495
    WIDTH:SPARK 1495,ALTO 1475
    HEIGHT:SPARK 1518,ALTO 1460

    OVERALL MILEAGE: SPARK 14.7,ALTO 14.5
    MAX. SPEED; SPARK 161,ALTO 137
    0-100KMPH: SPARK 13.6 SECONDS,ALTO 21.5 SECONDS
    80-O BRAKING: SPARK 32.1 METERS,ALTO 35.8 METERS

ENGINE: SPARK 1.0L 4-CYL SOHC PETROL,ALTO FC ENGINE

  45. on 24 Jun, 2008 at 04:02 PM Rajiv Parashar (Lucknow)

SEE THE COMPARISION N STILL IF SOMEONE THINKS ALTO IS IN SAME SEGMENT OF SPARK/WAGON-R/SANTRO/ESTILO ... WELL I MUST SAY... ALTO N SPARK .. NO COMPARISION.

I MUST SAY ALTO IS A VERY GOOD ENTRY LEVEL CAR 4 SMALL FAMILY N MAX. CITY USE, IF BUDGET IS AROUND 3 LACS... ALTO IS THE CAR TO PICK!

  46. on 26 Jun, 2008 at 11:52 AM Tsang

HA HA HA RAJIV,HERE WE MEET AGAIN.
ALTO IS ENTRY LEVEL CAR BY PRICE AND NOT BY SIZE AND PERFORMANCE.ITS SIZE IS SAME AS SPARK WHICH IS SMALLER THAN SANTRO WAGONR ETC.
THE 20 TO 80 KMPH IN GEAR ACCELERATION TIME FOR ALTO IS 15 SECONDS WHICH IS FASTER THAN SPARK WHICH TAKES 15.19 SECONDS SPARK SHOULD BE GENUINELY PITTED IN A LOWER SEGMENT OTHERWISE IT WILL CONTINUE TO TAKE BEATING FROM BIGGER AND BETTER CARS LIKE SANTRO ETC

  47. on 28 Jun, 2008 at 05:26 PM Rajiv Parashar (Lucknow)

I guess, you r not aware about small cars or you haven't compared all d small cars. The comparision is here at this page n at my review page you have seen the comparision of Spark/Santro/Esilo .. Spark/Alto.. check above. I dont why u r trying to prove Alto n Spark is similar?? This is not my comparision .. Alto can give better mileage to someone but max. mileage of spark as per autocar is 16.9kmpl. I got max. 17.4 n now wid 100% a.c. its 14+kmpl.

And man Spark reach 0 to 100 in 13.6 secs.

  48. on 02 Jul, 2008 at 02:40 PM Luxman

I feel Spark should actually get only 3 marks at best.Wagon R,Santro,Alto and Zen will get 4 each and I10 will get 5 marks.Spark is not giving value for money.

  49. on 07 Jul, 2008 at 05:40 PM Rajiv Parashar (Lucknow)

I will give 8 out 10 n 7 to other cars. Its better den others...(IN MY OPINION)

  50. on 17 Jul, 2008 at 11:42 AM Osram

I think Luxman is correct in his assessment.I myself would give 3 out of 5 to Spark and 4 to Alto.

  51. on 18 Jul, 2008 at 07:40 PM Rajiv Parashar (Lucknow)

My dear Osram... Again u r comparing it with Alto... LOLZ ... say Give points to Spark n Estilo, Wagon-r & Santro.

Kahan Spark .. kahan Alto... Alto is no way near! But man.. u r cool... I provided all the details n still you are comparing it with Alto... lolz.

By d way who said Alto is bad? And at current Prices... SPARK IS BETTER DEN ANY OTHER SMALL CAR. IF YOU WISH I CAN PROVIDE ALL THE DETAILS IF U CANT COMPARE.

SPARK IS VFM (Value For Money).

  52. on 25 Jul, 2008 at 05:19 PM Balvinder Anand (New Delhi)

    which car is better
    spark-LT
    ZEN ESTILO- LXI
    SANTRO-GLS
    PRICE NO PERFERENCE ONLY QUALITY
GOING TO PURCHASE BEFORE THIS DIWALI, PLEASE HELP ME

  53. on 27 Jul, 2008 at 12:27 PM Rajiv Parashar (Lucknow)

If Price doesn't matters ... Compare the Featueres of Spark LT, Zen Estilo-LXi & Santro GLS. Spark LT Beats both the cars in Features... so, simply.. your choice should be ... Spark LT

  54. on 12 Aug, 2008 at 08:59 PM Raju Ashar (Mumbai)

Spark drives like big car, rock solid. Alto does not feel that.
Spark/WagonR/Santro/Estilo are in 1 segment. UVA/Getz/Indica/Swift are in other (big small cars). i10 can be compared with either small or big cars. However, point here is that Spark delivers better road manners than all small cars in its segment, but also i10. Yes, i10 has better space its 1595 mm wide compared to Spark 1495 and Santro 1525. However, coz of monoque design, Spark offers better space inside than expected.

  55. on 12 Aug, 2008 at 09:05 PM Raju Ashar (Mumbai)

    width of Car
    Spark 1495
    WagonR 1495
    Zen 1475
    Alto 1475
Santro 1525 (3 cm wide than Spark)
    i10 1595 (10 cm wide than Spark)
    Palio 1620
    Indica 1660
Swift 1695 (Please compare the Swift inside space when you expect it to be 20 cm wide than Spark. You will come to know that the space management in Spark is much better.)
I have test driven Spark LS and was surprised the way it absorbs potholes and the stability over them.
However, if anyone feels alto better, god save him.

  56. on 13 Aug, 2008 at 08:39 PM Karan Solanki (Noida)

Osram ek number ka dhakkan hai, I think these and Nitin and all the Ids which are speaking anything against Spark and Rajiv are all one person and is Mr. Singh. Mr. Singh is a big time sucker, with nothing in his/her head. Cheers! Spark is not where to be compared with Alto, users on mouthshut have even compared it with Honda City and Corolla! so go for Spark with no doubt, its an american engineering and is amazing to drive and behaves well on roads(highway/city) without doubt.

  57. on 14 Aug, 2008 at 05:48 PM Deepak

    HI Rajiv,
I saw your input on specs but its futile to make this understand to others that difference in category is independent of dimensions. Its based on engine and features or a combination of both. Anyways, to all who have spend time in going through this post, I simple suggest that please put comments about what you have experienced driving that perticular vehicle, not just by some prints. 20 - 100 acc time is imp but I think more impt is the feel of doing that and the exp

  58. on 14 Aug, 2008 at 09:30 PM Chirag Patel (Pune)

well i have read all the comments written...i would conclude that alto is no comparison for spark.in any comparison alto fails as it falls in an altogether different segment.it is like comparing ford fiesta and skoda octavia.

  59. on 16 Aug, 2008 at 02:57 PM Rajiv Parashar (Lucknow)

Hi Deepak, Well few guys use to say Spark n Alto is having same size dats why I mentioned the size difference. As far as engine n features r concern, Spark is up there and compare it with likes of Wagon-r, Santro & Estilo only.

And 20 to 80kmph time taking... lol, see guys r saying Spark is taking 15.19 secs n Alto is taking 15 secs, I guess they r car racers.. n they will miss Bronze medel with .19 secs difference. Hahaha...wat a major difference! I suggest you to update ur review:)

  60. on 30 Aug, 2008 at 05:05 PM Osram

Why is it that only Rajiv Parashar is defending Spark and that too all the time
