Can a maruti WagonR go up from Manali to Rohtang Pass

Maruti WagonR comes with 1.1 L engine and max torque of 84 @ 3500 rpm.

Can it make up to Rohtang Pass from Manali.

Earlier I had experience to go to Lava and Lolegaon (approx 8000 ft) without any issues. and also had a trip to Dhanaulti comfortably.

Please share experience.

It wont be a issue-about 3 years back a auto magazine in India took a Maruti 800 an  E class from Kanyakumari to Rohtang! There was no problem reported!

Want to have some details about the road condition there. If any body can share some experience it will be of great help.

Just to mention I am planning to go to Rohtang from Kolkata ( West Bengal ).

Earlier also I went from Kolkata to garhwal himalayas with my WagonR. So I think I can also make Rohtang possible. But any information about the road condition will help me a lot.

When are you going?

I recently went from Manali up towards Rohtang pass via  a rented Qualis with my family. Had to stop about 8 kms short of Rohtang pass because military personnel had closed the route to Rohtang (too dangerous in rainy weather with possibility of landslides; lot of snow was still present from previous night and was melting, causing slippery road conditions with water streams flowing across the road). The road was very bad in patches and any car's suspension will take a beating. You will have to drive over fairly big and possibly slippery stones. Saw one or two Santros/Altos/800's go though that terrain with some difficulty.

 

We head that it is possible to bribe the locals to get a ride up to Rohtang pass even if military people impose a ban. But this could be very risky both in terms of road safety and the possibility of getting caught by military, so we did not try this. In winter, I suspect that there will be too much snow/ice on the route to Rohtang pass and I doubt it would be safe for cars like Wagonr to attempt that route.

Around 2nd week of October this year. Will drive from Kolkata to Manali and planned to take rest there. So may be 7th or 8th October try to go to Rohtang pass.

 

Thanks Srinivasan for sharing your experience.As I am planning to visit that in October probably will not have to face rainy weather. Rather might have to face huge snow fall.

If there is a ban definitely will not try to move forward. Let me see what is waiting for me there.
