If your budget is between 6-8 than rule out Palio Multijet, you can buy a better car in your budget. Even Indica Vista and Swift Diesel is not for you.

As per your usage, you can go for a classy petrol car and Ford Fiesta S better option for you (My honest opinion). Its a driver's car.... fantastic car with stunning looks, alloys ..interiors...everything is just perfect. Mileage is also decent 11-12 kmpl with a.c. in city driving. Check out delivery status in your city.

In diesel you can consider Fusion TDCi too, which is very good option. If you travels alot more on bad roads and highways... Fusion is a good option to go for. Another option... Ford Fiesta 1.4 TDCi Exi. I am using this very good car of Ford, and I am fully satisfied with the performance, comfort, superb ride & handling, Safety (structural safety) and great mileage. I would like to add, maintenance is not high as such n already we saved atleast 50k as compare to Verna's base model. Resale of Fiesta Diesel is also better.

You actually do not require the diesel car, as your run/usage is not high.  That leaves Fiesta 1.6 S from the ones short-listed by you.

Fiesta 1.6 S is a good car.  It has 1596 CC engine that delivers 101ps of power @ 6500rpm & 146nm of torque @ 3400rpm, and generally gives mileage of approx. 12 in city & 16/17 on highway.

How about waiting for new Honda city? I would then suggest you to choose b/w new City and Maruti Sx4. Honestly, I, repeat, I would not buy a Ford/GM car right now. Honda, Toyota, Skoda, VW etc is the way to go. Of course SX4 is a very good car too and being a Maruti, be assured of good resale value.

But for Honda City (New), you will have to stretch your budget over Rs.9 lac (on-road price) for one of its base models, I suppose.

Hope so, but I doubt.  Even if it's priced starting from Rs.8-8.5 lac, like assumed by you, the on-road price would amount to almost Rs.9-9.25 lac.
