Dear Friends

I am a 43 year young Indian Air Force Officer. I want to change my 98 model Esteem car running on LPG with a new fuel economic car. My Max budget is Rs 7,50,000/-. I expect average 600 kms city driving and app 300 kms Highway driving in a month. My concern is fuel economy, maintenance cost, Value for money, safety, Performance and Comfort in the order of priority. I have a doubt whether I should go for diesel version or Petrol version. Infact I had narrowed down on Swift Dezire, Ford Fiesta and Verna (All Diesel Version). I prefered Swift Dezire diesel version. But people advised me to wait as Swift Dezire has some problem with suspension which is being rectified. I don't mind waiting for one year also, if this is the car I have to buy. Some of my friends suggested to buy Petrol version of Swift Dezire as Diesel car will be costly in terms of initial cost and maintenance cost as compared to Petrol car. They also told that in long run Petrol car will be cheaper even if u feel a pinch of fuel cost on day today basis. Since this is going to be my life time car, if you have any suggession to offer, I shall be grateful.

Shivendra

Falling market share of Maruti Suzuki reflects the quality the company is providing.Swift Dzire and SX4  are worst vehicles on Indian roads.Go for Honda City

Hi Shivendra,

Welcome to carwale!

I accept today there are so many better cars from Ford, General Motors & Honda. Definitely better than Maruti but people use to pick maruti for better service network and reliability. We dont generally accept anything new easily.

Shivendra, your usage is not enough to justify the need of Diesel car, so dont consider diesel firstly, Anything below 1000 kms per month, petrol is best. In petrol, you have 3 options:

1. Ford Fiesta S,

2. Honda City &

3. Maruti Suzuki SX4

D'zire is not in class of above mentioned cars, so dont consider it since you are having good budget.

Ford Fiesta S is one of the best car available, The best ride & hadling and great power with decent mileage of 11-12kmpl in city. Honda City is another good performer and having very good resale value too. And new city is coming very soon but you have to stretch your budget for new Honda City. Third option is Maruti Suzuki SX4, till date in my opinon SX4 is the best from Maruti, quality product but having one negative and that too is very big...mileage.... 9-10kmpl in city practically!

@Jeevan, I mentioned this thing so many times in so many threads and see Maruti introduced Zen Sports with good quality atleast check side mirrors of wagon-r n estilo and compare with i10 n Spark... (They changed side mirrors of Zen )cheap interiors... (Grey n black interiors in zen sports )one very minor thing but I think that should be better .... silencer... see pipes of wagon-r and estilo .. and compare with indica and spark. From behind... indica and spark looks cool, very small things but why not maruti is not thinking about it I dont understand. Just because Maruti is in the market since very very long time, otherwise any new company with these cars, I dont think they can capture even 5% market share. My personal opinion.

hi Shivu ,

After reading that your aprox usage will be around 900 kms a month and due to increase of Petrol prices , the diesel car would be the most ideal choice , and after seeing your requirements  such as fuel economy maintenence cost and Perfroamance , i feel you should opt for the Verna diesel! its packed with all the features you are looking for , the fiesta diesel lacks the Power of Verna and also tyhe maintenece and spares are slightly on the higher side when compared to Verna!

on the other hand Dzire is a goood car and it doesnot have any problem , but i personally dint liek the looks of the Dzire at all! and i feel it wont be  agood idea  to go for it , if you also think the same as me!

if you insist on going for a petrol car , i  feel you should go for the Honda City or the Ford Fiesta 1.6 S!
