Hi Yash,
Small advice, Please look into the situation of buying a diesel car now...
GOVT is planning to have a dual pricing system for Diesel. Thus a big advantage of having a Diesel vehicle may go off.

This is quite unlikely.  In any case, even if it comes through, Diesel cars being more fuel efficient will always be more economical - though not as much as they are today.

cs dicor is a good car but not up to the satndards what i feel, build quality is also not that great & it cant be compared with fiat's multiget. multiget is a gem of an engine.

considering all other cars u have mentioned indigo cs should not be there in ur list & if it has to be there bychance than also on last priority.

first u decide wat would u like to do with which car u would like to go because u r confused, the cars u have shortlisted are from 5lacs to 9lacs.

so 1st come to a certain choice, wat would u like to do & how much would u like to spend & than decide.

Hi Deepam, my main priorities are that I should get a good vehicle in best value. From all the discussions we have done I had almost zeroed myself to Fiesta Diesel till Mr Arindam told me to "think again" before buying diesel cars....why so ?? He has said that main advantages of owning diesel cars may go off ????

If diesel is so concerning then I can move ahead for Fiesta Petrol....Please suggest

Thanks Deepam and Pankaj. I had also shortlisted these two cars but I find the looksof Verna a bit Lazy. Verna's look are kinda fatty ones with too much curves on it rear. This fatty looks make it a lazy kind of vehicle thou on performanc it may not have a competitor in its class.

Fiesta is good looking with overall good looks, sound interiors and good power and mileage. But again I question the reliability of Ford..?? or am i over-consious.

What about diesel varients of Logan / Indigo and Swift ??

Ford’s servicing & maintenance is not an issue – more so in the case of Fiesta.  Nevertheless, Fiesta is worth the till trouble you may face due to Ford’s smaller net-work.  My views on the other cars short-listed by you are…..

  • Logan (Rs.5.94 – 7.38 lac) 1461 CC / 65ps @ 4000rpm & 160nm @ 2000rpm / Mileage 17/18 in city & 21/22 on highway.

  • Indigo CS DiCOR (Rs.5.35 lac): 1396 CC / 70ps @ 4000rpm & 140nm @ 1800rpm / Mileage 15/16 in city & 18/19 on highway.

  • Dzire (Rs.5.795 – 7.10 lac): 1248 CC / 75ps @ 4000rpm & 190nm @ 2000rpm / Mileage 16/17 in city & 20/21 on highway.

  • Swift (Rs.4.95 – 5.51 lac): 1248 CC / 75ps @ 4000rpm & 190nm @ 2000rpm / Mileage 17/18 in city & 21/22 on highway.

  • Vista (Rs.4.70 & 4.99 lac): 1248 CC / 75ps @ 4000rpm & 190nm @ 1750rpm / Mileage should be almost in line with that of Swift or negligibly less (say, in line with Dzire).

contd… (next post)

….contd (previous post)

Logan is very spacious & comfortable (even for 5).  It has the best ride-quality/suspensions – just right for our type of roads.  Interiors & features though good enough, are not as good/decent as in others.  However, it’s a VFM car.

Indigo CS is cute/smart looking.  Though it’s spacious/comfortable, the rear seat is slightly upfront – it may not be very comfortable on long trips. Interiors & features, though good enough, are not as good/decent as in others.  However, it’s a VFM car.

Dzire & Swift are both same in all respects – except for the boot in Dzire.  Rear seats of both are slightly uncomfortable due to lesser leg-room.  Interiors & features are good/decent.  Currently, both the cars are popular & in demand.

Vista is very spacious & comfortable (even for 5). Interiors & features are more than good/decent & too good for the price they come at.  Reviews until now are very encouraging & it may give Swift a tough time.

But all in all, I would still suggest you to go for either Fiesta or Verna, for the reasons stated before.

Dear Pankaj, govt is seriously planning to go for dual pricing of Diesel. In current price difference of car and fuel prices, the break even of Diesel car comes at 50000 kms, if the price difference in fuel price has gone then there is no sense in buying a diesel car by spending additional Rs. 1.00 lk.

Dear Pankaj, thank you for such a detailed information. Now my doubts regarding the vehicles seems to be getting diminish. Some of the concluions which I have made are :

Logan : Its a fine car with boxy looks and huge space within. May not be ideal for the people travel outside big cities like Delhi / Mumbai due to non-availability of service centres of Mahindra. It may not prove to be an ideal vehicle for long life for same reason.

Indigo CS : This cute and good looking vehicle suffers from the same taxi tagline of "Indigo" series, may not be able to do wonders despite being aggresively priced.

Dezire : I find it very ugly looking and I feel so off after looking it that I cant imagine myself wasting my hard earned money on byuing this terrible fault of car designers. technically it may be sound (sorry...no offends to carowners, these are my personal reviews)

Verna and Fiesta : A good blend of performance, looks, good interiors and mileage. A good buy.

One of my doubt still remain uncleared what is this "dual pricing system for diesel" ?????

Yash, dual pricing system for diesel is just like dual pricing for LPG/Kerosene, Govt. is thinking about this Dual Pricing system for diesel in which Industrial users and private vehicles pay more than the farmers and transporters.

I dont think this is a good move coz still you can see domestic cylinders in restaurants, cars and in other commercial fields.

Yash dual pricing will lead to the commercial diesel vehicles paying diesel prices at a lower rate than the the non commercial vehicles(like our cars!).

This is just a proposal and is very unlikely to come into effect- if at all it does it might take 2-3years for implementation.

Diesel engines have evolved a lot over the years- they are more efficeint than petrol and will give more milage than the corresponding petrol engines.

Test drive the cars you have under consideration - buy the car that makes you happy, Personally would prefer a  verna over the fiesta.

Like I have said before, this is quite unlikely.  Nevertheless, if at all it comes through, it will be implemented in a different way....

  • Govt. will reduce the subsidy a little.  Resultantly, the diesel prices will rise a little, say (if as on date) by Rs.5/- (Rs.40/- to Rs.45/-).  It will still be cheaper to Petrol (Rs.55/-).

  • Industrial & Commercial vehicles that have constant & bulk use, will get diesel at higher subsidy, say Rs.40/-.  However, they will have to seek approval/permit for the purpose.

  • Small commercial vehicles like taxis etc. will not be eligible for higher subsidy.

  • Premium segment Diesel cars will cost higher.
