Thank you Deepam , Rubal, Bhavin and Pankaj for your valuable suggestions. I have a good news  my parents have agreed to help me if I extend my budget and now BUDGET is not really not an issue. I would like to know which diesel car would give me best running value : Logan / Indigo CS /Aveo/Verna /Fiesta/Dezire/Swift ???

Please suggest a hatchback and a sedan which will turn the wheel most in a litre along with approx mileage. For instance my esteem runs 9 km a litre with a/c on in pathetic road and traffic condition of overpopulated delhi.

hello yash,

aveo doesnt come with a diesel so rule that out.

if u can stretch ur budget for verna & fiesta than it is a very good move by you.

if ur running is mainly in city & want a car with exceptional pickup & power than the verna is for u & it will give u mileage of around 14 in city, but than too it depends on driving style, it can give more also.

fiesta is also a very good car with great driving dynamics, compared to verna ull feel it underpowered but in real world conditions it doesnt seems like when u actual drive, it handles & rides very well on highways.

both the cars are at their best, u test drive both the cars & see which one would u like to go with.

if u want performance & a rocket like pickup than for sure go with the verna.

Briefly speaking, if you can now afford to buy cars like Verna & Fiesta, I would suggest don’t’ think/compare the others.  These two are better cars than Logan, Indigo CS, Aveo, Dzire & Swift short-listed by you.

On Verna & Fiesta, following is my view….

  • Fiesta (Rs.7.45 lac to Rs.8.54 lac) has 1399 CC engine that delivers 68ps of power @ 4000rpm & 160nm of torque @ 2000rpm, and gives mileage of 18/19 in city & 22/24 on highway.

  • Verna (Rs.8.01 lac to Rs.8.77 lac) has 1493 CC engine that delivers 110ps of power @ 4000rpm & 235nm of torque @ 1900rpm, and gives mileage of 16/17 in city & 20/21 on highway.

CC/Power/Torque of Verna is more than Fiesta - more powerful & better pick-up.  Fiesta is, however, more fuel efficient.  Verna is a little more spacious & comfortable than Fiesta.  Overall interiors & features of both are good/decent & more or less at par.

Road-grip & stability of both the cars are very good at any speed.  Fiesta’s braking & handling on U-turns is a little better than Verna’s.  As such, overall handling of Fiesta is relatively better (but there’s nothing adverse about Verna).

All in all, if your usage/run will be more in city, go for Fiesta & if more on highway/ long-drives, go for Verna.

Thanks Deepam and Pankaj. I had also shortlisted these two cars but I find the looksof Verna a bit Lazy. Verna's look are kinda fatty ones with too much curves on it rear. This fatty looks make it a lazy kind of vehicle thou on performanc it may not have a competitor in its class.

Fiesta is good looking with overall good looks, sound interiors and good power and mileage. But again I question the reliability of Ford..?? or am i over-consious.

What about diesel varients of Logan / Indigo and Swift ??

Hi Yash,
Small advice, Please look into the situation of buying a diesel car now...
GOVT is planning to have a dual pricing system for Diesel. Thus a big advantage of having a Diesel vehicle may go off.

yes even i have heard about this policy, this is just not acceptable.

& for ford's reliability not to worry about it yash, fiesta is a pretty well balanced car & ford is improving day by day & making its presence stronger in india.

fiesta is a car worth buying.

diesel of logan & swift are also very good, logan is a sedan & swift a hatchback. swift is not that good on space & is cramped at rear & boot space is not there. logan is a good car with very good space & ride quality but not that good on looks.

if u r considering fiesta & verna than dont think of considering any other cars.

Thanks Deepam, I have heard good reviews about Indigo CS's DICOR engine..!! What is it ? People say its better than Fiat's multijet engine..I heard a review in Auto Car India and it said the same thing !!!

cs dicor is a good car but not up to the satndards what i feel, build quality is also not that great & it cant be compared with fiat's multiget. multiget is a gem of an engine.

considering all other cars u have mentioned indigo cs should not be there in ur list & if it has to be there bychance than also on last priority.

first u decide wat would u like to do with which car u would like to go because u r confused, the cars u have shortlisted are from 5lacs to 9lacs.

so 1st come to a certain choice, wat would u like to do & how much would u like to spend & than decide.

Hi All,

@ Rubal, Here I am

Yash, if you like the looks of Fiesta than go for it, I am haivng Fiesta TDCi Exi (base model) since april 2007 and Car is a gem! Fiesta is having 5star rating for Ride & handling and yes .. this is the best car ... Frankly speaking If you love power and want to drive your car at high speed, go for Verna... power is good, but if you want a Decent car with Superb ride & handling, confident turning, decent mileage of 16 to 18kmpl in city with a.c. and love to drive a car which is having superb gear shifting too and very very stable car at high speed over 140kmph (My top speed...am not dare enough like Narayan Karthikeyan), Ford Fiesta is a car for you.

Dont think about high maintenance of Ford, I am using and No Such High Maintenance, though I heard alot before buying that ford is high on maintenance.... gone r those days! If they want to be here in india, maintenance should be low. Frankly speaking, people use to Compare the maintenance of Ford Fiesta with Hyundai... because of maintenance of Santro..... Verna is not cheap to maintain like Santro. In another thread I invited Our carwale experts to provide a Parts prices comparision of Ford Fiesta & Hyundai Verna.... Part by part ..specially important parts.

These days I am bit busy with my work as well as at home otherwise I can do the job. We had an accident with Tavera (Pics r there in my photo section), mostly Plastic parts damaged (50% from insurance only) and the bill we paid 13140/- only. The car is very very safe, ours is Base model so we dont have extra safety features like Airbags & ABS but yet the car takes all the energy and no impact inside. I am sure this is the Safest car on road without Additional safety features.

Pankaj mentioned that Verna is stable at high speed, I bet test drive both the cars at similar high speed and feel the difference (Sorry Pankaj, I am not agree with you coz I tested it and there is too much difference in stability, Fiesta is more planted on road, ek dum chipak k chalti hai, you can turn it at any speed, Verna is having amazing power but definitely not stable, atleast no way near Fiesta in Ride & Handling. And dont feel just because I am driving Fiesta, I am biased. Not the case with me, Till date no problem and most importantly, when I saw the Tavera and Accidental fiesta, I am fan of Ford. Safe Cars on Indian Roads!).
