Yes, diesel cars are indeed very refined these days.  In fact, they are sturdier, stronger & have better longevity.  Engine performance & pick-up too are very good - virtually as good as petrol ones.  Besides they are economical (cost of diesel vis-a-vis petrol) & more fuel efficient (better mileage than petrol).

CNG is even more economical (cost of CNG vis-a-vis diesel) & fuel efficient (better mileage than petrol - but not better than diesel).  For instance, if a car gives a mileage of 12 on petrol, it would give 14 on CNG - while diesel cars under reference give in the range of 16 to 18.

In any case, CNG retrofittment generally reduces engine performance/pick-up by 20-25%. This, however, varies/differs from car to car & depending upon the CNG Kit, Retrofittment quality (workmanship) & maintenace.

All in all, I too would suggest you to go for a diesel car (not petrol/CNG).

Hello Pankaj and Rubal, thank you for your valuable comments. I would keep the vehicle for 72 months atleast which makes it 6 years. If diesel is ihe most preferred option in my case then should it be Indigo CS Tdi which is on road 4.68 Lacs. I find this car very cute but on the other hand I have spoken with some mechanics when I was servicing my car that this CS version has the same old engine of old Indigo series which usually creates problem after 3-4 years.

Pankaj, with CNG you can get the running cost of Rs 1.50 a kilometre with a/c on, I afraid if its the same case with diesel varients.

Rubal, you are right with Logan, actually I have considered this car from the very beginning but since again some people told me that this car has an old european engine and its maintainence will cost my wallet a much because of unavailability of spares in the market. I again became confused....!!!

Hi Amin,

The main things concerning me are my daily running cost and the monthly emi, I dont want them to exceed Rs 10,000 a month after totalling them. I know its tough but still achivable. Diesel may do the job if it can provide me Rs 2 a kilometre with a/c on. Do you thing IndigoCS Tdi/Logan Diesel / Desire diesel would be able to deviler it??

logan & dzire diesel will not come in ur budget for that ull have to extend ur budget. diesel will be a best buy for u but than too running cost in cng will be lower than diesel but than too diesel would be a better buy.

logan & dzire would be much better choice than the indigo cs. if u intend to stretch ur budget & go for a diesel sedan than choose between logan & dzire.

& if u would like to go with a hatch back than consider vista quadraget, it is the best.

Hi Amin, Okay, I'll leave the idea of Indigo but I am wondering why Dezire petrol CNG or Logan Petrol CNG are not a good choice, if I manage to get a company fitted CNG in them, wouldnt be they ideal for the job ?

Most frankly I too want the diesel varients but I wont be able to afford them in my salary provided that I do have other monthly expenses too. CNG is perhaps is on top on  my priority chart now. I came to you  to clear my confusions, if my thinking or conclusions are wrong.

hi, Yash. I totally agree with the Deepam's suggestion of Vista Qaudrajet. Saloon like Esteem and D-zire are more cramped than Vista. Vista's cabin space is more than H-City. It is widest of all. Saloon is to be preferred only when you use your boot and rear seat on regular basis. When you are driving mostly single or double rear seat folding will give you lots of space for your luggage. Fitting a CNG in new car means lapse of warrenty. Further it is advisable to run petrol car on petrol for atleast 25% of total driving. So cost will of running on CNG+petrol will be equal to Diesel. A Car run on CNG has always lower resale value than other cars. So ultimately your ownership and running costs are equal to diesel. In view of above all points I will go for Vista Diesel. All the best.

hello yash,

if u get a company fited cng kit with including the insurance & warranty for it than it is not a bad deal, in cng for sure ull savings will be more but at same time ull have to compromise on ur boot space & ur car's performance will drop marginally, if u r ok with these 2 points than go with the petrol+cng car or else vista quadraget.

Hi All,

Yash i wouldnot recommend getting your new car converted to a CNG run vehicle. At the first place it leads to void warranty and in any case you go in for a company fitted kit which mite save your warranty and also the expenses, it would mean a compromise on the performance of the vehicle. The power loss would be one of the after impact plus its not advisable to run your behicle on CNG in the initial months of purchasing the vehicle. Buying a petrol car and then converting it into a CNG run vehicle would not make much of the sense, Buying a diesel vehicle would mean spending the extra bucks initially but then its saving all the way afterwards. Buddy i would still recommend go for Logan followed by Dezire followed by Indiaca Vista or Palio Style. The choice is yours. For any further query we are always there to give the bestest of the solutions.

Regards,

Rubal

One thing is for sure, diesel is the best suited car for you - looking to your type of usage/run.  Logan, Dizire, Swift & Vista (under reference herein above) will not fit into your budget of Rs.5 lac (on-road price).

You could consider from (ex-showroom, Mumbai prices mentioned in brackets).....

Indica Turbo DLX (Rs.4.13 lac), Palio 1.3 SD (Rs.4.61 lac), Indigo LS (Rs.4.40 lac), Indigo CS LE (Rs.4.11 lac) & Indica DiCOR DLG (Rs.4.29 lac).

Briefly, all in all, from the above ones, I would recommend you to consider between Palio 1.3 SD (Rs.4.61 lac) & Indica Turbo DLX (Rs.4.13 lac).  Palio is the better of the two.  You should not be concerned about resale value, as you plan to own it for 6 years or more.
