TATA XETA or TATA Indigo CS

Hi there,

What would be a better choice between the XETA GLG and the Indigo CS GLS?
The ex-showroom prices of the GLG and the CS GLS are 3.21L and 3.88L
Central Locking and front power windows come as standard fitment on the XETA; however, the CS GLS (being the top variant ) does not come equipped with Central Locking and Power Windows.

Since my running is less, I am looking for a petrol vehicle, with an OTR budget of about 4.6-4.7L
The XETA seems a VFM vehicle, while I'll be getting a sedan for about 60K more!
Comfort, FE and overall build quality are my priorities.

all the petrol cars from tata isnt really good , diesel is always a safe bet , but why dont you go for something else for the same money , say a hyundia i10 or the Spark

Why do you say that TATA's petrol cars aren't good? Is there evidence to back your statement?
Diesel is definitely not an option, since my monthly running is very less.

Are there any members who drive a TATA petrol, and experiencing problems?

I don't drive neither Xeta nor CS but have test-driven both.  I also know a few Xeta owners.  In my opinion, briefly, Xeta is not a bad car anymore (since refined).  It is indeed a VFM, as stated by you. However, CS, if you can spare a little more, is definitely a better choice - else, there's nothing wrong in settling for Xeta.

By the way, though both cars are spacious/comfortable, rear seats of CS are slightly/negligibly less comfortable than Xeta, as the back-rest is marginally up-straight.

I thought it would be worth mentioning that I don't care much for rear seat comfort, since it would just be the wife and me. Having test-driven both the vehicles, what would you recommend, with regard to comfort, FE, overall build and stability and power.

The CS is about 60K more than the XETA; but without PWs and No Central Locking. At this point, I want to say that I'd be utilising the vehicle primarily on long road trips, for which the extra boot space of the CS is a definite boon.

Kindly suggest.

hmm i dont think your choice is good for the tata , but if u are very eager to get it , go ahead , get the Indigo CS then , better value , you cud fit the Remote locking for 4k rs ( Xenos - it has life time replacement waranty ) Front power windoew if u require go for the autocop for 6k rs!

but i feel the indigo CS GLS has central locking but no remote!

The Indigo CS GLS does NOT come equipped with Central Locking. There is NO mention of it on the TATA motors site.

I was given a quote of 10K for Central Locking from the TATA dealerships. Does this seem a lot? I was advised to ALWAYS have the Central Locking fitted from the dealership itself, even if it costs more than if I had it done from the outside, since it might affect the warranty of the vehicle.

I do intend to have the gear lock and keyless remote entry from Xenos, because it is a good brand and their lifetime warranty. But do they also do Central Locking? If they do, and the TATA dealerships don't stock them, then do you advise that I go and have it done outside, or simply settle with whatever brand the dealership stocks.

Regarding PWs, I have read that if the vehicle does NOT come equipped with them, it is not a good idea to have after-market PWs fitted, since they invariably have problems. Is this true? If not, what brand and from where do you advise I have this done.

CS isn't uncomfortable in the rear seat - I should say, Xeta is slightly more comfortable especially on long drives - also because it has slightly more space too.  Anyway, as it doesn't affect much - especially in your case.

CS & Xeta both have 1193 CC engines that deliver identical power of 65ps @ 5000rpm & regarding torque, CS delivers 105nm @ 2500rpm while Xeta 100nm @ 2600rpm.

Overall perormance of CS is better than Xeta's. Besides, road-rip & driving pleasure in CS is better on account of it being a Sedan & also because it has 14 inches wheel against Xeta's 13.  Mileage is at par - in the range of 11/13 in city & 15/17 on highway (depending  upon the driving conditions & style). 

All in all, I would suggest you to go for CS.

Power Windows & Central Lock are the two main features you would have forego (as compared to Xeta).  You can do with Power Windows but shoud get Central Lock installed.
