Hi,

I'm currently driving a Tata Indica V2 DLS since 2003 and wanted to upgrade to a Sedan within a budget of Aprox 6 Lakhs.

My Deciding factors will be:

  • Fuel Economy (Avg mileage 1200Km / Month)
  • Seating Comfort (5 Well built Adults will travel)
  • Driving Comfort
  • A.C.

I have shortlisted the following cars but i'm really confused as don't have many Sedan's available in the price range so i'm also contemplating on a Hatch as well.

  1. Swift Dzire VDI/ZDI: Dealer is giving a wait time of 3 Months (Kolkata)
  2. Renault Logan DLS: Not sure about the resale value and also cost of maintenance / ownership
  3. Swift VDI: Legroom is not upto the mark
  4. Palio MJD SDX: Not sure about the resale value and also cost of maintenance / ownership
  5. Tata Indigo DICOR: Don't feel like driving a similar looking car again....

Please help me....

Thanks,

Ashish.

Ashish,

Considering that we are working on a budget of 6lacs ex-showroom price of the car, in my opinion and from the comparison results @ LINK, the Dzire VDi would suit your requirements most.

Benefits of Dzire:

  • Integrated music system
  • Good fuel economy
  • Seating comfort (may be Dzire owners could confirm the same to you) may be slightly off mark
  • AC (pretty effective)
  • Fresh looks & design

And for within a budget of 6lacs (ex-showroom):

  • Logan DLE: No power windows!! No central locking!! No power door locks!! No remote boot!! No steering adjust!! No tubeless tyres!! Looks not that attractive!! Better mileage.
  • Indigo LX (& LX DiCOR): No steering adjust!! No cassette player!! No tubeless tyres!! Uncomfortable placement of power window controls & accelerator/brake/clutch angle!

But if you are not particular about buying a sedan, then:

  • For front seat comfort & modern design (interiors & dash): Swift VDi
  • For all round comfort & slightly better space (albeit dated dash): Palio MJD. If you are looking at owning it for next 5-7 years then do not bother about resale.

If you are particular about a sedan and like the Swift, then you might just wait for another couple of months after doing the booking for the Dzire.

gio for the Swift Dzire VDi , and i am sure its worth the waiting, the waiting period in karnataka for Vdi is above 4 months so , this should be a faar better car in your slection

Notwithstanding the interiors & features.....

Swift & Dzire (same seating space) cannot accomodate a family of 5 well-built persons. Indica DiCOR you have ruled out, as you do not wish to drive a small car any more - else it is spacious for 5.

That leaves Palio & Logan - both are spacious, well built, have great ride-quality / suspensions.  However, Logan is more spacious & comfortable, while Palio's performance & power is better.

I had a test drive for Palio MJD today.... The drive quality is EXCELLENT ! No engine noise or vibrations when in idle and also during pick-up.... The boot is REAAALLLYYYY big for a hatch. However, i felt the AC was not very effective, it was a bit difficult to get into the driving seat for me as i'm of Big built :o) and also the interiors were very 90's. Surprisingly the sales guy was very lousy and was not aware of any vehicle details and was not even aware that he got a SDE instead of SDX that i asked for and was not even able to tell me the diff between the 2 variants.... I'm in doubt if i'll get a good after sales service and also proper treatment by the dealer.

I'm thinking of trying out Dzire now as i can wait for 2 months since i have to get an NOC for vehicle to be able to sell it in Kolkata as its a Haryana registration and because of that dealers here are giving petty resale value.

I'm still confused..... Any suggestions ??? Should i try a Fusion or a Getz CRDi or any other vehicle ?

Getz has not been such a successful & preferred car, as compared to others in its segment, and is also likely to be discontinued.

Palio, like you stated, is indeed a  good car.  Maintenance & service will not be an issue cosidering the support of Tata.

I would suggest, though you may not like the looks of Logan, just test-drive it - it's a good car with lots or space & comfort, like I've stated before.

i suggets you better have a tets drive of Both logan fusion andDzire , and i i am pretty much sure Logan will be nowehere , coz driving is not that good with logan annd iquite underpowered and also the features and priciing is quite high , why do you want to buy logan when you get the Dzire VDi for Logan Base diesels price , morever the Fusion is high on maintenence and also power is not that good either

thats why test drive all 3 to feel yourself , thought logan is the most spacious , it isnt quite good for performance! then later dont repent yourself or envy yourself for going in for the logan by seeing the Dzires perfromance

so please give us the update of ur test drive , enjoy!

Cheers,
Sri

Thanks for the reply Sri. I had driven a friends Logan almost 45 days back and though it was spacious but somehow i was not very convinced with the pricing vis a vis the features and Dzire sounds very attractive when compared to Logan.

To be honest, when i bought Indica 5 years back i compromised on a DLS rather than DLX for a mere 30K and till date i repent that decision :o(

Dealers in Kolkata claim that they don't have DZIRE vehicles to arrange for a Test Drive as they only have only 1 vehicle and they are insisting that i should go for a Swift...

Is there any fellow blogger in Kolkata who owns a DZIRE ? May be i can have a test drive of that vehicle

does Kolkata have only 1 maruti dealer?? if it has atleast 2 or 3 , jst call up and ask other maruti dealers telling u want to test drive the Dzire DIesel , i am sure atleast 1 dealer might have ! the marutis demo vheicle is Dzire ZDi ( diesel top end ) , so you could possibly hav a test drive by this week if there are more than 1 dealer in our city!

cheers,
