Dear Friends ,

I am new to this forum .

I am in processing of deciding my first car purchase.

With lot of analysis and reference , I could narrow down to Either Santro or Wagon R/zen Estilo or Spark. Now I am stuck up . More and More I am doing analysis to compare these three cars , More I am getting confused and not able to make my decision as which CAR . A big question mark ??? . Hence I thought of taking help of many of you who have got so much of indepth knowledge of these car and can help me in making my decision.

My budget is 4 lac max ( including all accessories) and I will have run of 50 Km every day in city & long ride on Sunday.

One more another option with my company is that they have two swift petrol version , LXI -2007 & VXI 2006 which company can sell off any one to me.  This again adds to more confusion to decide.

I want to have my first car without regret later on.

Please help me

Regards

Sunil

Hi Sunil,

This is the most frequently asked question in this forum - all the cars you have stated are so close to eachother - if you have narrowed in on these models, I would suggest you to browse through some of the other threads where we have discussed, researched and debated the topic a lot of times already.

Actually, I would suggest something totally different - for the kind of usage you have stated, I would seriously consider a diesel or an LPG model. I would hence suggest you to either consider an Indica Diesel / WagonR DUO - while certain models of Indica Diesel can be purchased for lessthan 4 lakhs, WagonR DUO is at a higher price and out of budget.

Cheers,

K Prasad

Sunil,

I am in the same dilemma

I test drove Spark and Wagon R today
Found Wagon R far better than Spark!

Our carwale friends suggested me to go for diesel, i have a run of ~1000km/month. I have yet to test drive Indica.

You can visit my thread at

If you are not in a hurry then you could definitely think of including I10 diesel in the list too. I10 diesel would be getting launched soon. However I10 would not come in the mentioned budget.

However amongst the cars mentioned here, for freshness & mileage it has to be Spark. For responsive yet decent mile munching it has to be Santro. For practicality & space it would be WagonR.

If your monthly run does come to 1500+ km then you could think of WagonR Duo. This would bring your running expenses low as long as LPG price is within limits. Even Santro comes with LPG variants if i am not wrong. But that would be at the expense of slight drop in responsiveness to throttle bursts. However with the new model of Maruti (guess A star - i am not sure about the name), Wagon R looks to be the car which would get replaced.

Although Swift models are doing very good, 2006 model Swift could be taking a chance. Swifts are prone to rattling over a period of time. A new car would be preferable anyday over a used one. And even in Swift the space which you get inside for passengers is barely enough to have a 3rd person sit in the rear seat. So a new Santro / Wagon R makes equal sense.

Dear Bhushan,

As per my information , Hyundai has not launched the LPG version , they have only CNG version particularly in Delhi.

Any news about the LPG version.,

Here by I am givning the On road Cost statistics of all cars in the consideration ( This is after cost bargain with the Dealer , On road price)

1) Santro Xing GLS : 3,78000 ( includes free insurance , free accessories worth 10000)

2) Wagon R LXI : 3,77,000 ( includes free insurance , no accessories , no power window)

3) Wagon R DUO LXI : 4,07,000 ( no free insurance , Gift of 5000 , no power window)

4) Zen Estilo LXI : 371000 ( Free insurance, no accessories , Power windows)

5) Spark LS :  363000  ( no free insurance , no accessories , power windows)

6) Swift VXI (used CAR 2006) :  Around 330000  ( Original price 530000) Car condition is good , Run till date about 23000 KM

Now tell me which is the best option .

Dear Sunil,

While the WagonR DUO LXI is slightly off the 4 lakh budget and is not having power windows, it is also priced about 30K above the Santro and WagonR LXI - but considering your heavy usage, I would strongly recommend you to go for it as the running cost will be lower with LPG. You will recover the extra 30K in a matter of couple of years based on your usage.

Another thing is that the car runs on both petrol and LPG - so, even if run out of LPG, there is a fall back mechanism in place. Would advice you to go for that.

As said before, the usage you have stated strongly shifts the balance in favour of either LPG / CNG / Diesel. Indica Diesel is another option, but, if you don't to take that way, then WagonR DUO is the option really.

You can however take the Santro, use it for a year or two and then fit an LPG / CNG kit to it - unfortunately, if you do it, the warranty gets void - hence suggesting you to go for WagonR DUO - wherein the LPG kit is factory fitted and is covered under warranty.

Cheers,

K Prasad

Looking to your budget (Rs.4 lac - total cost) & your monthly run (1500 kms), I would suggest you to go for Indica Diesel ahead of WagonR DUO.  Indica Diesel is more economical, fuel efficient, powerful , spacious & comfortable. Consider Indica Turbo DLS version - it may come in your budget with discounts around.

i dont think there is any huge amount of saving in the LPG , the diesel saves your running costs , and the running costs in petrol and LPG is almost one and the same , plus you need to pay extra amount ! prefer the diesel if u drive above 1000 kms , or else steele in for a petrol one

Sunil,

I pretty much would agree to most of what KVSK has mentioned. For your usage you should be looking at LPG / Diesel as the options.

If you do not like the kind of boxy looks of the Wagon R then you could go for Santro Xing and later on have it converted to LPG. I would not like to recommend Spark as it's boot is smallish. And over the weekends it may not be enough for you. The boot of Wagon R & Santro Xing are decent. Between Xing & Wagon R not much to differentiate in terms of mileage too.

Actually you cannot go wrong with these cars. After test driving which car did you feel most comfortable in?
