Hello fellow-members/users,

Like anyone of you, I too am a member/user of CarWale.  But, I have an additional role of helping Banwari & Ashish in keeping the forums clean, meaningful & organized.

I too love to participate on various threads, like you all do, and earn as many points as I can   Though we all have been contributing as meaningfully as possible, it is observed that some of us sometimes tend to register posts only for the sake of registering it & for earning extra points.  Therefore, in order to encourage meaningful & quality participation, I request we all need to take into consideration the following:

  • The posts should be meaningful & not out of context.
  • We should post only/generally when we disagree or have something more/else to add or discuss other aspects/angles of the subject matter.
  • There’s no point in repeating one’s views again or saying things like ‘I agree’, ‘Thanks’ or the like (though it may not always stand true).
  • We should avoid creation/duplication of threads & discuss/post our views on the existing threads for the subject matters.
  • We all should be very particular in our language/expression so as to not to offend anyone.

Nevertheless, there’s nothing wrong in posting an occasional remark/comment off the track/thread (subject matter) – provided it is in good humour & is like a pinch of salt.

So, let us all be our own moderators & ensure quality & meaningful participation. All said & done, if some one fails to do so, his/her posts/threads will be deleted/edited suitably – without meaning any offense.  This will be done very impartially & will apply to one & all.

Let your comments roll-in

Thanks & Cheers.

This is a great move from you guys, however , my suggestion is that after a members Post is deleted 3 times  , he should be informed  by email , saying why his post was deleted and how he could have done better or not to post unensecary , so such warning once evry 3 posts from a member is deleted will help the member learn to post some good Ones

Cheers,
Sri

Dear Pankaj,

Just a 'thank you' is not enough for what you have been doing for the community. Still I thank you on the behalf of CarWale.com for your contribution. We really appreciate your and other active members' contribution.

You have come up with quite a comprehensive list of constructive suggestions, still I would like to add a few:

  • Before starting a new discussion, try searching. I am pretty sure you will find the information you are looking for. Start a discussion if you are not satisfied with the information available in other discussions.
  • I would like members to avoid writing in full caps. Sentences written in all upper-case are not friendly e.g. 'WHICH CAR IS THE BEST?' To me, text written in caps looks like someone is shouting at me.
  • I would also encourage people to use proper formatting i.e. paragraphs, capitalization, full-stops, commas etc. This enhances readability and posts look like articles. Even if a post has valuable information, one just might not read it because of this.
  • Excessive use of dots too looks awkward. "hello there..... i am here...... how are you...." Please avoid.
  • This community attracts people of all ages from teenagers to senior citizens. SMS language. e.g. 'nething 4 u bro... vfm of da car is not gud... wud b better if u by xyz...' might be a usual language to a particular age-group but not for the others. Try using SMS language/abbreviations as less as possible.

These are just suggestions now but once everybody (almost) agrees upon these, the suggestions will become rules. If you have differing views, please comment.

The suggestion is good.  However, I personally feel that deleting a member's posts a couple of times or more should itself serve as a message to him.  Besides, every member (new or old) as such knows what is expected of him in the forums & in any case, would automatically understand soon.

Banwari,

Thanks for appreciating.  I'll try & do my best.

The suggestions you have mentioned are really worthwhile - they are great tips for participating. Language/expression in particular is the core of communication. We should write lucidly so that it's understood well & by all - else, the basic purpose of communication is defeated.

Dear fellow-members,

This thread is revived purposefully with a dual purpose. One, so as to bring the contents to the notice of the new members; and two, to reiterate the same to all the members.

It is observed/felt that some of us sometimes tend to participate only for the sake of earning more & more points.  Such posts either contain repetition of views already discussed (same thread) or repetition of views of other members (same thread) in a paraphrased manner.

It is, in fact, not necessary to always say something.  If we agree with the views/ discussions of the other members, we need not acknowledge it by repeating it or paraphrasing it – unless we have some other aspect or dimension to annex.

This is expected, all the more, from members those who are quite senior – so as to set a good example to the new entrants.

Therefore, coming straight to the point….. don’t be surprised if some of us see that some of our posts/remarks are being deleted.

Hope everyone of us appreciates & understands the concern. Thanks

Nice to see this thread, This is the first time I am reading this thread. Actually, i've added couple of forums in my favourite list and usually I use to go direct to couple of forums or else I use e-mail link only.

I use to type in Caps somtimes just to make my point clear (dont think I am shouting) anyways, I will try to avoid this thing. Other point, while writing ... I use dots.... this is my habit. I use to chat with my friends and dont know really but somehow started using dots.... its a kinda habit now. I'll try to avoid though.

Rest is fine and you guys are doing fantastic job, I usually go to any thread and post only when I think, I can say something about this car or that car, If you check, you will find that I am not participating in any thread/discussion on highend cars like BMW/Audi/Mercedes (Frankly speaking, jo car maine drive nahi kari, I cant say anything about that car. I can make comment on Looks only).

I love to spend some time here at carwale (even couple of days back my wife was firing at me, still you are at pc and carwale lol).

Thanks & Cheers

Rajiv

@ Rajeev, it seems your grievances on Review Section have not been resolved to your satisfaction.  I suggest, you may post them once again in the Help us Improve Section (you may revive the earlier thread).

Your suggestions pertaining to the same herein above will soon be deleted – so as to avoid intermingling of the same with the subject matter.  I hope you understand. Thanks.

Well, I hope I haven’t ‘terrified’ any member by saying that such posts will be ‘deleted’

What I actually mean, which I trust most of us understand, is something like (for instance)…

ABC says “A 2nd hand Alto of 2002 is the most likely to suit your budget”.

Now if XYZ says “I agree” OR “Yes, you can’t get another car” & the like, it’s unwarranted for.

Actually XYZ should preferably be saying something like “I agree but would suggest you to consider WagonR/Santro of 1999/2000 – they may come in your budget, and would be better than Alto”.

Someone else may add “It would be even better if you can increase your budget a little & go for WagonR/Santro of 2002 model”.

Like-wise, when ABC gives a good comparison of the cars, XYZ & others may discuss other dimensions & annex various other aspects not covered by him.

Needless to add, 'repetition of views & all that' generally doesn’t arise while disagreeing with each other ;-)

So, there’s nothing so special about it – let us all be a little careful.  In the process, the asker will benefit and so will we.

Cheers everybody
