LPG OR CNG

I am looking to instal LPG or CNG but dont have any idea which one is better for my car. I have Maruti Baleno.

Can u ppl hellp me out in know which one is better in terms of engine performance , mileage cost wise and offcorse not damaging my engine.

Getting a LPG kit fitted in your car will cost you around Rs.22,000 and a CNG kit will cost you around Rs.40,000. The CNG tank will acquire a huge space in your boot and even the performance of engine would be not as good as with the LPG but the main thing is, the running cost of a car on CNG will be half of that of LPG. CNG proves to be far more cheaper. If both these fuels are in easy access, go for the CNG if economy is the main concern.

I have heard tht LPG & CNG cud cut your ENGINE's Life...Is tht true?

It effects the engine's performance but in no way it cut's its life. Using CNG means that you are contributing in keeping the environment clean, no depositions on the combustion chambers of the engine;exhaust outlet, no release of the harmful gases. The petrol is more harsh on engines than the CNG.

And just incase CNG or LPG (or both) do affect the Engine's life even a fraction bit .... pls tell us which fuel would make an engine last the longest...Petrol,Lpg or CNG.

Given that driving conditions(and other factors) are identical.

Well I am plaining it for my C Segment Car Either a Baleno or City. So power is not a problem with this cars, they have enough Power to sustain in city traffic. so CNG will be my choice. Any one with CNG ? pls share their exprience.

ya ... a CNG Honda City is being used....and its going great......

its giving an average of over 20 on CNG.

Very little power loss.

i don't have much clue about the Baleno,but certainly i've also heard many ppl hav installed CNG kits in Honda City's and its pretty ok.

p.s---remember.. ALOT of space in the boot,is used by the Cylinder.

Thanks to all of you who are contributing to this forum. The above information seems conflicting, it says that CNG is low on maintenance and and high on engine's life....but I have read in previous forums that CNG require a bit more maintenance and low on performance. Pls tell me in detail with example along with approx. amount about maintenance of CNG car compared with petrol car (say wagonR).

Would like to know more about the status of any factory fitted CNG car in the market available today. If no, how long will it take, any segment?

It isn't the case that CNG requires more maintenance but it definately reduces the performance of the car but then you save a lot of money. Fitting the CNG kit in old cars might bring about complications in the car because it cannot be as good as a factory fitted equipment, high maintenance issue might be due to this but otherwise CNG  won't contribute to higher maintenance as a "fuel." No difference in cost of maintenance for a car running on alternate fuel.

Karan owns a wagon-R duo(LPG), he knows better if there if any difference, so please comment on this Karan.

CNG cars available till date are Lancer, Optra(factory fitted) & Indica(after sales dealer fitment which is as good as factory fitted and warranty holds good.) Santro CNG will be out by year end.
