Yes, it's not meant for Sri, you or me - it's for the middle service class segment of people .... and they are in majority.  Others could consider as 2nd car, especially for women (kitty party, shopping etc.), and we can have decent rickshaws as well

Hi Pankaj,
I know what you said about rickshaws was a joke ,but if you consider the Nano as an alternative to the rickshaw, maybe our traffic flow would bem much easier. What say?

Yes, you have a point - but then Nano will lose its charm.

The Nano was never intended to be charming .It was designed to be practical and cost efficient.

No, what I mean is that if it becomes popular as rickshaw, it would lose its charm amongst its buyers.

I guess you are right ,no one wants to buy a vehicle that is used as taxis.Cars that are very popular here are used as taxis abroad. The toyota corolla is a cab in the middle east.

But I sincerely feel Nano will not be replacing rickshaws, as it would not be a rough & tough car.  Besides, it would not be possible to overload it like Rickshaws are.

Well, regarding Maruti competing with Nano, here's a newsprint appearing on the front page of ToI (of today, Ahmedabad edition), which is very briefly paraphrased as under:

Maruti plans to counter Nano.  It is likely to launch a small car as early as the end of this year or early 2009.  It will sport a Suzuki 660 CC engine (against Nano's 623 CC) and will carry a price tag of Rs.1.5 lac on road (without insurance).  It will be mothered by Suzuki at its headquarters at Hamamatsu (Japan) although it will be eventually manufactured in India.

Contrary to this, today's ToI contains a news wherein Maruti has categorically denied having any plans to lauch a car below 800CC segment.  It said that it intends to unveil 'world strategic models' like Splash & A-Star in the market.

It also said (without reference to Nano) that it is delighted that various manufacturers were making efforts to offer low-cost cars in the segment below M800.
