The subject i am putting in front of you is a possibility, a real Possibility.

Lets go to the days say some 3 to 4 years back, when Rs.1 Lac car from TATA was making news and talks of every Indian and everybody of us, action-reactions, views-previews, sure-not sure, proper car or not, blah, blah, blah... Some said it would be a four wheeled scooter, some said it will be un-safest of the car....

Actually, to be frank every other manufacturer (two-wheeler and four-wheeler) was really scared of Tata’s 1lac car. There aggression or lack of it, negative attitude showed in there views and talks about the car. However, one manufacturer was altogether in a different world, settled all their worries within few months made up their mind and were relaxed and laid back and awaiting the launch of Tata’s car.

The manufacturer is none other than MARUTI!

Come to the present scenario, the 1lac car is now Rs1.25-1.40lac car, many more companies joining the same intention as theirs, many things happened and invented since then, but Maruti is still in leisure mood and is quite confident to remain so. They are calm & prepared for the situation then, not only, they are ready to attack like super power with armed comparable to nuclear weapon. Any guess what is that thing? None other than the trustworthy and real small car, the Great Maruti 800.

Yes, think, just think why cannot they sell the same car within price bracket of Rs.1.5lac. A car which moved India on four wheels, what LUNA and Scooter did to us Indians moved from bicycles to mopeds and two wheelers, they made the invention of what was not an possible thing for average Indian. So is the Maruti 800, an impossible thought of owning our own CAR and maintaining it too? Yes we have seen what Maruti 800 has done for Indian car scene, it’s just in its FIRST INNINGS.

Welcome to SECOND INNINGS of Maruti 800. Welcome TATA, welcome Protos from Renault-Mahindra, Bajaj-Nissan, Dubaities, Malaysian, welcome all. Maruti is ready to play the game & battlefield of micro cars.

This is the possibility of which i am talking of,..MARUTI can very well launch this car anytime, this was the reason why they were so calm and unscared cause they have Nuclear weapon like Trump card which is why they are super power in coming battlefield.

Let’s talk technically, Suzuki can offer 600cc to 700cc motors to Maruti for so called car lets name it MARUTI DREAM. DREAM will be based completely on Maruti 800, lookalike, four door, the front end can be made cute say like Spark, rear like old Zen, new front &rear bumpers (they can even re-introduce type-1 800 design to give DREAM the robustness. So Engine would be 600cc twin or 3 pot, making 28 bhp, with 35 bhp optional or other technologies giving optional, Transmission with CVT as well as manual either of them optional depends on the competition, front suspension same carried one from 800 and at the rear the old simple layout with three linked optional, interior would be bare basic as seen on the type-1 800 but at least 3 optional upgrades. Maruti will give more options than giving standard to keep the cost in limit like DREAM C1, C2, C3.

The Maruti DREAM would be instant hit, as it would be known product with Maruti’s giant sales and service network & capabilities. Maruti have advantage others can only dream of, ready available parts, tooling and vendors and production capacity, with all this and much more I don’t think anybody would have thought of this possibility.

Best part is that this is going to be a real treat for Indian buyers, with this new segment created this is what will happen to prices of other Maruti line up.

  1. Maruti DREAM (Rs.1,25,000/- to 1,60,000/-)
  2. Maruti 800 A/C (Rs.2,00,000/- to 2,30,000/-)
  3. Maruti ALTO LXi (Rs.2,80,000/- to 3,00,000/-)

So, don’t be surprised if Maruti makes it reality.

A good post indeed, and I will not be surprised if Maruti really makes it a reality, else it will have to phase-out Maruti 800 sooner or later.

Hope Maruti getz the 1. 5 - 2 lakhs car to compete with the tatas 1 lakh car , though if maruti Prices it 50k more than the 1 lakh car from tata , it would be a best deal

Cheers,

As such, Tata Rs.1 lac car, as discussed on other thread, is going to be the basic/economical version - without Power Steering (PS) & AC.  Higher versions with PS, AC & addtional features may cost upto Rs.1.80 lac.  Therefore, if Maruti's possible small car is offered in the range of Rs.1.5 to 2 lac, as stated by Sri, it would more or less be at par with Tata's car.

There's an article in today's newspaper by the MD of Maruti saying that in order to keep thier market share, they would place Maruti 800 against the Rs.1 lac car of Tata and the other small cars coming up in this segment.

Presently M800 is priced at Rs.1.92 lac (base version), and, in order to compete with Tata's Rs.1 lac car, it is likely to be priced 40/50K less.  As such, Tata's Rs.1 lac car would be the base model without AC & Power Steering (PS).  The one with AC, PS & other features are likely to be priced up to Rs.1.80 lac (depending upon the features).
