Thanks a lot everyone, for your continued interest and suggestions. They are all extremely insightful and reflect your depp interests and understanding in the way these machines work. I will now run tests along your lines and make a detailed hypothesis and plan of action before I approach the support engineer. There are two further observations I wish to share with you.

1.   I have been 'drawing' a certain mileage out of the car by moving to higher gears at lower RPMs. When I do not drive like myself and go a little with the traffic's flow - in short , speed up. Although the mileage drops, the car takes longer to heat up.

2.  The onomatopoetic word 'sputtering' is EXACTLY how I would describe the sound.

3.   The car's power is perfectly allright.

Please do keep sending any 'flashes' you may have.

Thanks and best regards,

Daniel

There hardly needs to be trial and error in this-if the car can be connected to a scanner at the service station any and all issues with fueling can be known.

Hi Binoy and Pankaj,

I hope you remember my query about my Indica XETA's engine noise and the unusually high kmpl. Well, it is true that the dealerships nowadyas are of very little use. Their staff does not know much about programmaing ECUs etc. So I did nothing for a long time.

About a week ago, we went to Bapatla Beach in Andhra from Hyderabad. I was not bothered about the car's reliability at all but wondered if i should do it because of the coolant evaporating issue. So I went to buy a bottle of the coolant to atleast top it up. There, I met this sardarji gentleman who told me that i must not have screwed the lid of the coolant reservior tight enough the last time I checked the level. So this time, WE tightened it together and i also put in IFTEX systemG that i had bought  three months ago but never used. I put in Extra Premium worth 1820(30 litres) for a 600(to and fro) journey. It was actually 700 kms (352*2) as I got to know later. So had to top up later by buying fuel for another 300bucks(~ 5 litres). The car gave a good 754(total distance)/35(fuel filled on empty tank)= 21.54kmpl. With 4 people in the car and A/c never switched on, but the windows were down and we did upto 130 on the NH5 (or 9 which one was it? .

But that is not what pleased me so much. It is the fact that ALL those knocking sounds are off and the engine is purring once again like it did when the car was brand new that has given people the opportunity of seeing me whistle in the office cafeteria etc.

The level of the coolant is between the MAX and MIN level though I topped it to above the MAX level I think. I am not sure because I did not put any mark and I only had the lamp post's light to go by. I 'll confirm now by putting a mark.

Thanks a lot for all your answers always.

Best regards, daniel

@Daniel, so nice to hear that your problem has been resolved - we too have been of no use like dealers - kept discussing so many technical aspects for the probable fault/cause etc. So, Singh is King
