There is more to this ground clearance story - when I drove the Logan I felt it to be low too, but tried various bumps and potholes - I drove it for over an hour - and didnt find any issue.   Even the places where we have trouble with the Fiat Uno, we didnt with the Logan.

It is also a factor of the shock absorbers and how the car behaves one feels.

And come to think of it, the difference between 146 mm and 170 mm is 2.5 cms which is about from here >>                              << to here and that is not a lot.

So I wouldnt put too much weight on this ground clearance thing without testing it out...

One cm can make a BIG difference?  So lets try these different cars -

  • Fabio is at 146 mm.
  • Swift and Palio are at 170 mm
  • Getz is at 175 mm
  • U-VA is at 188 mm
  • Fusion is at 198 mm

The Civic is one car where they have the most complaints about clearance - and this is at 170 mm.  Here it is the length of the car coming innto play.

I have driven all of these except the the Fabia and the Civic.

But this doesnt make the U-VA and Fusion way better than the others purely on ground clearance.

Hence the comment that the clearance issue only a small factor, others that count are wheelbase, chassis design and absorber responsiveness - so one must test and confirm.

You are right but 165 - 170 mm is required for indian roads and above it like the aveo , uva and fusion is always good

have seen the car. it is low but does not look low at all. have to drive before passing any judgements. but i feel the clearance will be a problem.

Even I would say it did not appear to be low on ground clearance. Although I must admit that on indian road you need sufficient ground clearance. If you are on perfectly good raods it does not make any difference but it starts to get serious onc ethe condition of roads detriorate. the idea to test drive is not worth it unless you drive it on really bad roads, which are not that common near showrooms.

true. infact, forget bad roads. in india, we have horrible speed-breakers, more like car-breakers. plus, there is no way a show-room wala is gonna allow people to take the car on such roads.

Ground clearance in my opinion is a factor which cannot be considered in isolation. The distance in between the front and the rear wheels is very important. Specially while negotiating those nasty speed breakers the distance between wheels takes greater importance. Moreover, the ground clearance also doesnt remain constant. With more passengers, the ground clearance does become less due to the load. So there cannot be an absolute comparision between cars of different lengths on the factor of ground clearance.
