Yes-only in diesel-there are similar tech for petrol engines-direct injection petrol engines but the pressures in the rails are much less compared to diesel common rails.

Recently I read about Scoda Fabia is coming with Direct Injection Petrol engine and additional to it it is having a turbo charger + super charger. Super charger will help to increase the power at lower speeds.

The top end Fabia 1.4 petrol is 8lac on road-add another 1 lac with the FSI engine and suddenly the Fabia hardly makes any sense at all-but hope it removes the poor driveability of the current petrol.
