I am planning to sell my old 2003 make Alto Lx. The price I have quoted is 1.8 Lakh. So far two potential buyers have shown interest. One is offering to pay Rs. 1.5 Lakh . The other who will be paying at least 1.7 Lakh I am sure hails from another state. I am little apprehensive dealing with this second party because I think paperworks i.e. transferring the registration in his name will be a more cumbersome process. Also I need to dehypothecate the car before selling. So after I get the money from him, I will repay the loan, get the NOC, apply for dehypothecation at RTO, apply for RC trf, then apply for insurance trf - the whole process ,  i think, will take around three days. and ti will be difficult for him to came down here and stay for 3/4 days.
But the other party is offering too less. What should I do ?

Yes, that additional 20K or so is worth all the trouble.  I suggest you can also seek help of some agent - his charges may not be more than 500 or so.

... and besides, the bargain aspect PSV has suggested is not so uncommon in such cases.  Just give a try and even if you don't succeed (bargain), I suggest you still go for that 20K extra.

Go for the party that is offering less if you want to avoid hassles.

But hassles could be avoided through an agent.  Why forego a substantial amount of 20K.

Trying going to an agent if you want to pocket the 20k.An agent mostly charges between 500 -1000 rupees.

It's not about pocketing 20K - it's about getting the best possible resale price.  After all, it's hard earned money.

Hi All,

I am planning to sell my Santro Xing XG . These are the details.

March 2003, 43000 Kms, Single owner, White Body Color, 11.5 Km/L average, Very good condition, very clean interiors, (but cannot say excellent due to some minor scratches on the body). What good price I can expect for this car? According to the estimation in carwale, the price is close to 2.5 lakh. On contacting some car resellers, they quote only Rs 2.1 lakhs. Can somebody share your views?

Yes, as per CarWale, it should fetch apprx. Rs.2.58 lac (good condition), as per Individual value.  Car sellers always quote less.  In this case, he has quoted you Rs.2.10 lac, i.e. in line with CarWale's Fair Price assessment as per Dealer value.

Anyway, it is always advisable to sell the car directly to some individual - it fetches better resale value.  In any case, you can check with other resellers also.  I suggest you do some homework locally & don't finalise in haste. Best Luck
