WagonR DUO generally gives a mileage of 12/14 in city & 16/18 on highway while Swift / Indica (Diesel) gives16/18 in city & 20/22 on highway - depending on driving conditions & style. Running cost (per km) of DUO & Swift/Indica both will work out to more or less same - Rs.2.25 in city & Rs.1.75 on highway.

However, running cost of DUO will reduce considerably if Domestic LPG Cyclinder (14.2 kg) is used for refilling, as it's cheaper and also because density of 1 kg LPG is equivalent to 1.66 litre LPG.  However, using domestic LPG cyclinder is illegal - though many manage to use it.

I had taken rounded-off cost of LPG (Rs.30) & Petrol (Rs.50) for the running cost calculated/quoted above.  Running cost of both the cars will, however, remain more or less at par.

  • LPG kit costs 18/20K while CNG kit costs around 40K.
  • LPG gives more power than CNG.
  • CNG is little more cheaper than LPG.
  • LPG stations are much more than CNG stations.

well..lik i sed b4 .... its very different in Delhi.....

the 30-50 stat does not work here.....

Lpg is 31.57 while petrol is  43.51...... so the difference is less than Rs 12 per litre.........   YEs...the saving is still der....... but at present Diesel being abt 1.5 Rs cheaper wud grab more attention than an LPg option.....    that only in Delhi though...

Yes, prices of LPG, CNG, Petro & Diesel all differ from region to region.  In fact, from city to city also (in the same region/state).  That's  mainly because of transportation cost.

Yes, in such a situation, Diesel will definitely be preferred over LPG.  Besides, for the engine power & resale value of the Diesel car.

wanted to add on to these points a bit--(adding them wid respect to the order in which they've been written....

1.yes LPg kits r a lot cheaper.... n not only that....an LPg tank of the same Volume can accomodate a LOT more Gas than a CNG tank....so u wont need to go for a refill that often in case of LPg.

2.Yes wid LPg,the power and Pickup is better than wid CNG.

3.YEs Petrol at 43.51 is the most expensive.....LPg is currently at 31.57 which is Rs 12 lesser.

Cng is another 12 Rs lesser than Lpg......at abt 19 Rs per KG.

4.---well the 4th point needs more attention....CNg stations are currently only in Metro's....  yes NCR's and city borders too.....maybe slightly more than that.So Cng is ofcourse ruled out for ppl, not in Metro's.

But on the other hand...as a matter of fact---In Metro's,CNG stations are ALOT more than AUTO-LPG stations....not the other way round.---------
