SUV- sport utility vehicle, this term is generally used for big 4- wheel drive cars or some may call it a truck. there 're no threads present here in this section so i am just making an attempt to start it. i don't really have a suv- 4 wheeler but i have something which is equivalent to that in two wheeler's, a royal enfield. i am talking about an off-road adventure trip, and believe me its the mother of all off-road adventure tours. its the 485 km longMANALI-LEH road. some may have been there, some may want to go there n some can only dream, one need to have a lot of guts. i am just giving a discription of this trecherous road. just give it a thought of going there on your own or 'would be' suv, i went there on my bike along with 50 other men & women from all over india in last week of june in 2006. this road opens for only 4 months in a year, from june to first week of october. started from new delhi, upto manali it was ok but after that the real adventure starts. first comes the rohtang-pass(13,047 feet), a common place for tourists 50 kms from manali. here the tough time starts, signs of high-altitude sickness, bad road, freezing cold winds but obviously a beautiful scenery with snow caped mountains. then comes a place called kokhsar when u can stop for a cup of tea, noodles or even half cooked 'rajmah-chawal' but they are very tasty and give ur suvs' some rest. then after this halt the road becomes worse, where u will have to go through a lot of 'water crossings' but it will be easier to cross them in a suv, so don't worry. just imagine, i passed through them on my bike, the water was freezing cold upto foot rests and pushing me towards the 2000 m deep valley with a lot of force. then after these, a place called tandi comes where u will get a chance to refill ur suv, its the only filling station on the manali-leh road and its 110 kms from manali. 8 kms from there is keylong where u will find the only hotels before leh. stay t
