What about an old car? My car (a santro) was bought in 2001, so it is 7.5 years old. I am transferring it from bangalore to pune. Will pune RTO take the depreciation of the car into account? Does anybody know what is the amount of Road Tax that I have to pay in Pune for such an old car? Can some please let me know? Thanks!!

Yes, the depreciated value will be taken into consideration. The tax thereon will be in % terms - here in Gujarat it's 6% (check for Maharashtra).

@Sunil, you have already posted this query in another thread & has been replied thereto - here's the LINK.

If you wish to have further discussion on it, please continue in that thread itself. Thanks.

As your stay will be less than a year (more than 3 months), you can pay 1-year tax (for temporary stay).  Re-registraton, change of no. etc. is not required.

I'm not sure about that.  It could be lump sum or in % terms.

If on % terms... The life-time tax is always for 15 years - so it should be calculated on pro-rata basis for 1 year.  Besides, for the purpose, the present market value of your bike should be taken into consideration.

I can enquire about how it is applicable here in Gujarat.

1. What is the Entry tax amount (% ) for transferring a car purchased in Gurgaon about 4 months back. I intend to transfer the car to Pune since I do not want to sell the car as it will entail a huge loss. How is the entry tax calculated.

2. The other tax seems to be the road tax which is 7.5%. Is this paid when I enter the state of Maharashtra ?

Rohit

Entry tax varies from state to state, if applicable (in Gujarat it has been done away with since Nov 07).

It is levied on ex-factory price of the car/vehicle (before application of excise, taxes etc).  In Gujarat it was at 3%.
