By the way, Pankaj, I had tanked up my Palio with HP Speed petrol for the sake of testing. Will publish the report sometime soon. Yes, I know the disadvantages of the fuel with additives but just wanted to test it out this time. And my car is already six years old, it has completed its life. It's time to experiments.

 

That reminds me of an old thread 'premium fuel or normal fuel'.  I'm not sure whether you have followed it, or not, but it has grown tremedously.  I suggest if you can go through the discussions from page #7  onwards (link provided above) wherein one of your older posts has been referred to (quote) & the discussions have continued.  Though many members have contributed therein but KVSK Prasad has put-in lot of clarity on the subject.

Sorry for delayed reply, Manoj. Being a bit busy, I am finding it hard to login to forums/blog. But I am happy that there are many people like Sunil, Anurag, Vinay and others who are coming ahead and helping people out.

As far as filling Nitrogen in tyres is concerned then I must say, it's already there. Normal air contains around 80% nitrogen so why bother about filling nitrogen in tyres. It apparently doesn't have any harm apart from the price you pay for it. If it's being offered for free at some filling-station, go ahead and fill it but if it's being sold for even 10 rupees/tyre, I would say, it's not worth the price!

Filling Nitrogen in tyres has NO apparent advantage over normal compressed air! It's a marketing gimmick, ignore it. All the claims made in your question don't have any substance. Checking tyre pressure is not a pain, whatsoever, do it regularly. That's more than enough.

@Sunil glad to have someone from the industry-could you put up some facts from the trials that you have conducted-it would be useful to all here.

Also what is the purity of the nitrogen that is filled-is it 100% or is it 95-98%?

@Sunil, the post (Banwari) quoted by you is dated almost 2 years back.  That time by & large it was termed as a marketing gimmick.  Benefits of nitrogen filled tyres have been discussed thereafter in the discussions that have followed (thereafter).  I trust you have gone through those & my personal experience (recent) & views.

 

Though it may not be a marketing gimmick but the fact at large is that long term benefits and improvement in ride-quality & handling are negligibly felt/observed in city drive in particular, and therefore, such users can conveniently ignore it - especially in view of the cost factor involved presently (here it is Rs.50 per tyre for 6 months).  It is, however, recommended for people who undertake more or frequent highway/long drives.

 

You, being a technical person from the industry concerned, may term my/our views & findings inappropriate or incomplete – but it's expected of you to put it modestly instead of stating something like “don’t misguide people” – like you have said in the case of Banwari.

 

And it’s my sincere request to you – please take this in the right perspective; no offense meant.

 

Like Binoy has suggested, I too welcome you to CarWale & request you to share your views & experience with us.  Even if we disagree, there’s nothing wrong in it as far as the discussion is meaningful.

....I will be using the Nitrogen filled tyres for next 6 months, as the re-filling is free till then.  I will post my further observations, if any.

 

It's 3 months since I'm using Nitrogen.  During the period, I have driven 3K including 1 long trip on highway (850 kms+).  I had checked for reduction in air-pressure twice.  Only day before yesterday I had to top-up by 1psi each.

@Sunil, It depends on the way how you convey it. Believe it or not, I first came to know about this technology around three years back. The marketing strategy was absurd and they were presenting it like it's the best discovery of the century. They claimed improvements in almost everything about a car. Which irritated me. Moreover when this technology was introduced it was charged as Rs.100 per tyre per fill which again sounded absurd to me. If somebody would have come and told me that this nitrogen thing helps you retain the tyre pressure for a longer time, it could have made sense.

 

@Binoy, as far as I understand the vaccumization of the tyre is not recommended as it permanently damages the tyre. What do good filling guys do is to evacuate the air, fill it with nitrogen and evacuate again and then finally fill the tyre. It means the nitrogen filled is not 100% but it should be above 99% for sure.

 

@Pankaj, It means you went to the pump thrice in last three months i.e. every month? Was this 1psi drop every time you went or this is the first time in three months?

@Banwari, yes I got it checked thrice / every month - but required top-up (1psi each) only 1st time in a total 3-month use.
