Hi, 1. Is it advised to fit Ford Ikon 1.6ZXI 2002 or any petrol car in India with a LPG retrofitment kit? 2. Would such a fitting affect the performance of the engine in the long run? 3. Which make of retrofitment do u recommend if this is advised? Sujath

Dear Sujath, Yes, Ford Ikon has severe issue with LPG-kit installation. Ford Ikon's compression ratio is high and LPG itself is a highly inflammable fuel and doesn't work with cars having high compression ratio. This combination takes the car to unstable state which lead to very severe problems. Please don't get LPG-kit fitted in Ikon.

Hi Banwari,

I am thinking to bring my car from gujarat to bangalore and thinking of getting the LPG conversion kit fitted in my Ford Ikon 1.3 petrol car.

Please suggest whether i should go for LPG conversion or not.

Regards

Tejash

Hi Mr. Sharma,

Please elaborate on this. On some some posts, I have read that there is no problem in fitting an LPG kit to Ford Ikon. And here it is mentioned that this can lead to severe problems.

Please reply. I am gong for a used Ikon & planning to fit an LPG kit in it. Safety is paramount.

1. yes it is advisable .,.... provided a good italian kit and a professional fitter r chosen

2. yes ...... lpg improves engine health ......... thereby increasing engine life ...... and reducing maintainance expences

3. any god italian make like ....... lovato ..... omvl ..... brc ...... zavoli .... etc .................... but more than a good kit .. a good fitter is esential

4. every car has a dfferent character ........ professional fitters keep this character of th car in mind while tuning ....... problems occur only when work is done by non professionals

5. safety in any car is compromised only when inferior material or workmanship is used. in normal situations ... lpg tanks r safer than petrol tanks

6. in mumbai there r hundreds of ikon owners .... who r happy running their cars on lpg since yrs

Dude I highly recomend you DONT!.. One of my friends got a CNG for his Esteem and its bad for the engine the cost is arround 25k for fitting a  new CNG and ull have to use the car for almost 3 years before you recover the cost over petrol.. by then your engine has suffered quiet a bit. Ford is Launching a Diesel variant  hence the  power is more than a CNG any day and you save on cost of Fuel. Its the Ford Diesel 1.4. Its a initial expense of about 5-6 Lakhs but its worth driving over long distances and will be usefull in the long run.
