You need the registration book or card in some states and valid insurance. You need to get a transfer set which include all the forms required by the RTO for transfer of the car - it will also include a delivery note which will be filled and signed by the buyer. To be on the safe side and to protect you legally, get the car transfered or intimate the concerned RTO about the sale before giving delivery of the car.
