How to rate diff cars based on safety and stability on road ?

Hello,

I am a MBA student and I am doing my research in the field of insurance. I need to rate cars based on their stability, safety and toughness etc. Crash tests are not mandatory in India. Can you please suggest me any way in which I can rate the cars or any URL or any source which can be helpful for me in conducting my research.

Thanking you in anticipation

Dear Puneet,

Few things what you should look at for stability, safety and toughness of vehicles are as follows:-

1. Thick door trims so that they can protect in side impact.

2. Air Bags which can also provide major cushions when impact is there from front and sides.

3. TCS-Traction control system which provides stability to vehicle when applied suuden brakes on slippery surface.

4. ABS-Antilock braking system so that brakes does not get jammed in case of emergency when applied and the steering can be turned.

5. Collapsible steering column so that when accident happens the steering does not hurt the driver and goes down to avoid any injuries.

6. The most important seat belts which if wore then in 80% cases the passengers will not be hurt severely.

There are some more but I feel these will solve your requirement to a greater extent.

As Vikesh has already told you many things as per your need, Other parameters that can be used to rate the cars are : Firstly the price, thats too obvious, M800 cannot match the Camry in terms of stability, safety and toughness. Weight of the car is also a parameter, heavier the car more is the stability but this doesn't hold good for SUV's as their hieght is much more so they are not as stable as sedans, Height is also a factor. The build of the car and shape also matters a lot, more sleek the car is, less will be the toughness, compare the Ambassador and an Accord here though the material of the Accord is far better than that of Ambassador but still the Deformity during an accident will be more visible in accord. For same segment cars, the tyre configuration and the aerodynamism can be considered to rate the car for stability. As soon as i will come across some more information or any website, i will publish it in the forums, so do keep in touch with Carwale.com. It will be useful to you as well as others.
